    Seiko uses in some of their Presage models that have a date wheel at the 6 and power reserve hand for quite a number of years already. The sweep of the PR is just in a slight different segment/arc to this one.. I think more from 12to 4 instead of 11 to 3 here.. simple matter of placing the hand in different start point. I've never seen this movement used outside of Seiko Presage models.

    I have this movement in my Seiko presage. Great movement but I think it causes the thickness.
    Me Seiko is also a bit wide.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Рік тому

      Not if you can blame it all on the movement alone… the Seiko hides the thickness a lot better anyway

    The brand got caught up with the Swatch ETA debacle with some customer service problems with their GMT. I have their Arsenale Ardesio with an ETA mvt. It's a well built timepiece

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Рік тому

      Really? What’s that got to do with Japanese movements?
      Besides, the built of the watch also has nothing to do with whether it’s got an ETA in it or not…

    • @jeffreyromain7336

      @@PerthWAtch I was just giving a potted history of the brand as they get a lot of stick. I thought that much was obvious oh great one. I merely stated that it was a well built timepiece and made no reference in that sentence to mvt.

    Happy New Year Ivan. Interesting watch, but it doesn't do anything for me.
    I have a Presage Power Reserve and it's 14.5mm thick too, but Seiko's case design disguises it. It has rounded edges and a slightly cushion-shaped back, also a curved profile on the crystal. Together these hide the case thickness really well. Seiko curve the lugs more too. The VR appears to have a flatter back, so it sits proud in your wrist. Put simply, the slab sides make the watch too chunky.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Рік тому

      Yeah that’s probably the same movement too - looking at the design, I think there is no reason why the watch can’t be made thinner, and should. But yes, case design can certainly hide thickness, and should’ve been done here.

    It should at least have lume on the hands, it’s a bit pricey also but I do like the power reserve indicator.

    A very interesting watch, I say as I sit wearing my Seiko SSA 347J1. The watch you have here is almost a spec 1:1 copy, with what I take to be the same movement, in a basically identical sized case with a butterfly clasp bracelet and dark blue dial. The only material differences are that the Seiko is probably unavailable new now, has a box domed hardlex crystal and a display caseback. Oh and minimal brushed surfaces. However, I do like this watch, and am obviously not put off by the thickness, though I concede it is a weakness. I'd certainly consider it if I didn't have my SSA.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Рік тому

      Far from a 1:1 copy… different case, different dial, different hands, different bracelet, different (alleged) thickness… all similarities are pretty much only because it’s got the same movement.

    It looks nice but, rather chunky. I thought it would be a little slimmer. 🤔🤔

      Yeah would’ve been good if it was indeed a bit slimmer

  • @BryanO92
    @BryanO92 Рік тому +1

    Yeah, there's no reason for it to be so thick, that's outrageous. Also, I disagree on the bracelet. While very well executed, it doesn't fit this watch at all. The Nautilus and Sinn 104 sports watches use the same style bracelet to good effect, but this is a dress watch. Get the height under 12mm and put a beads of rice or a Milanese on it, and I think they're really onto something. It's a solid offering, though, depending on fit and finish I think the price is pretty reasonable.

    Looks like it has the same design flaw as my Seiko Presage with the dark brown dial. Seiko made the date wheel so small, with gold numbers on the brown background no less, that the date is unreadable, even in bright light, or at least, in bright light, at just the right angle, you might be able to discern what it is. I picked it up because I really liked the power reserve indicator like it is shown here, but c'mon man! I have been surprised a Japanese company would let something like that out the door..

    Hi Ivan. It should be pronounced ve-nets-ya-ni-co. "Veneziano" means in Italian Venetian, and "meccanico" means mechanical, so the brand name is a word play on both these words ("redentore" means "redeemer").
    Keep up the great work!

    hi Ivan. I haven't seen you for a long time. where & how have you been? Hope that everyone and everything are all going well for you and your family.
    Venezianico.... Even if I try really hard to be nice to this watch, it would be very difficult for me. So here it is. Honestly, there isn't much for me to like this about. You mentioned that this looks like an Original design watch, but at least to my eyes, it is whole bunch of mixed bags of nuts. I can see so many different watches from this one and they are very obviously put together.
    by the way, why Venezianico is bluntly using "Meccaniche Veneziane" (Another Italian microbrand watch) logo? Perhaps Meccaniche sold the company to these two young guys? There got to be some sort of connection. Can you find that out, Ivan?
    As for the negatives, besides the nice & classy watch box, the watch itself really reminds me of those watches from Aliexpress (fit & finish and just about everything else).
    And if this is a dress watch, what happened with the 14.2 mm thickness (& it looks even thicker than 14.2mm due to the huge & weird looking bezel)? And to me, the bezel (if you can call that) looks really bad. It sticks out just too much (literally throwing off the composition balance of the watch profile) and looks so bland...
    Anyway, I do not want to write few pages of the negatives. so I will just stop here. By the way, this watch looks like a watch from few decades ago.
    Thanks Ivan and hope to see you more often. Take care.
    PS : Sorry about the negatives reviews on this watch, but I haven't see you for a long time and hoping & expecting something of spectacular ....

      Hi Alex! How you been? All's pretty good for me here... but kids keep growing and getting up to more things... it is almost incredulous to me that I now write that my son has started high school this year!
      You're right of course, none of the individual elements of this piece is fully original, or at least we have seen something very similar before... but the combination of elements I find pleasing enough. The thickness is my biggest gripe... they say it's the movement but I reckon they definitely lose a bit of thickness in the space under that glass (and make that bezel better looking in the process).
      Not sure about Meccaniche myself... will see if they can tell me.

      Venezianico is the new name of Meccaniche Veneziane. They decided to rebrand and to change name; it is still the same guys. Meccaniche Veneziane did not build a super solid reputation in terms of quality, so maybe this is also a way to cut with the past; overall since they are called Venezianico they did make major steps in terms of reliability IMO

  • @finesse49

    The dial and bracelet are fine but the case is too fat with an ugly bezel. The narrow bezel will make it look larger on the wrist than it's 40mm. At the €500 price it should at least have a 9xxx Miyota movement or even a Sellita.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Рік тому

      Nothing wrong with the bezel IMO.
