Reichweinn and Richard's moment of revelation regarding Johan was pretty epic
13:40 little did you know how right you were...
Ohh we meet Johan's fake family here...bro I got so confused from all that, if you remember I had to ask you to explain it to me lol. I'm ngl I feel like that whole plot point was a bit too much of a stretch, even in a story already full of extraordinary scenarios
Mfer really went and killed himself with a pen lmaoo how sharp was that shit? Reminds me of a scene in a Korean drama I watched where a character stabs someone else in the neck with a pencil
Bro Johan was being annoying as shit in the bar "UHHH THE UN SAYS YOU CANT EXECUTE KIDS-" THE GUY WAS 17 AND R@PED NINE PEOPLE STFU YOU PSYCHO
But in all seriousness I do get why Johan said all that and killed Richard. Well first off he's a detective who's on to him, so that's the practical part of it. But I also think he sees himself in the criminal Richard killed. A kid raised in a messed up orphanage that twisted his personality and made him destructive. I wonder if Johan was bringing up the convention about kids committing crimes as a personal way of absolving himself for the killings he himself committed as a kid. In all fairness...as messed up as it is, I can almost see Johan's point. The criminal had no chance because society failed to protect him. His personality was molded by that and he grew up and became violent, then he meets an unjust death being killed without a trial (not that I feel it wasn't deserved for someone who r@ped and killed so many people, but it is unjust by law for anyone to be denied trial). I'm guessing that was Johan's thought process and why he appeared especially cruel to Richard. Richard's action was wrong yeah but come on...the guy he killed was beyond hope anyway
36:19 LMAOOO YES I REMEMBER YOU TOLD ME YOU FIRST THOUGHT ROBERTO LEGIT HAD A WIFE AND MARITAL TROUBLES. IMAGINE THE STORY ACTUALLY FOCUSED ON THAT
39:25 how the hell did Roberto recover so quickly from having boiling water thrown at him? You know how much that hurts??

Johan really pulling out that "umm but he was literally neurodivergent and a minor? :\"
But yeah I definitely see what you're saying. It makes sense he'd see himself in the criminal Richard killed; I loosely thought of that too but admittedly also had a weirder take at some point... Basically it crossed my mind that he might have even partly seen himself in Richard as well (I know I know but hear me out LOL). There's a few reasons I thought this, especially in retrospect after finishing the series. First of all, two of the major times we actually see Johan in this kind of action where he's mentally unravelling someone were this scene and another one later where he's talking to that orphaned kid Milos. The latter is much more obviously an instance of Johan talking to someone who reminds him of himself (a child grappling with the uncertainty of whether he was wanted by his mother), but that also got me wondering about whether there were parallels to be drawn between him and Richard too. So I rewatched the scene and like, maybe I'm just doing massive mental gymnastics but a lot of the specific things he needles Richard for can also be applied to himself, imo?
He seems to love the word "execute" as a descriptor of killing in cold blood, with the only other time in the series he notably uses it being in reference to himself executing Junkers. "You calmly pulled the trigger because you wanted to execute him." That's pretty much how Johan commits all of his more direct murders, just shooting them with zero remorse as if they're worth nothing. Next point of note is the whole "why are you trying to forget, are you just lying to others or just lying to yourself" bit. Because as we find increasing proof of, Johan has some massively serious memory issues himself, of all things -- like mixing up his experiences with Anna's and believing he was the one taken to the mansion, the one who actually witnessed all the horrors designed to create a "monster", etc. Which could have bizarrely made him feel more justified (in whatever way he's able to conceptualize justice lmao, even if only through a starkly logical "cause-and-effect" lens) while murdering the various people who took care of him and Anna as young kids. I think it's reasonable to assume a strong motivator of those early murders was an intense paranoia and distrust he couldn't prove, but just felt in his gut -- which can again loop back to the Richard convo. "Did you confirm [his] crimes? Did you have the right to execute him?"
It's clear that Johan is heavily sociopathic and unable to feel guilt in the way Richard can, but I can also weirdly see Johan envying Richard's ability to progress and work for things that give his life happiness/meaning. Which is why I think he concludes by asking Richard if he thinks merely pretending will make his sins go away (Johan pretty much only ever "pretends" and is clearly incapable of living normally himself), and asking if someone like Richard can really reunite with his family after everything he has done (arguably comparable to the wound of Anna "rejecting" Johan when he offered his hand to her in the hospital, following his own execution of the Lieberts.) If I had to guess, Johan felt rejected in the eyes of argubably the only two people whose view of him he cared about since childhood -- his family -- and wanted Richard and Milos to feel the same

That’s the scary part. Johan doesn’t have a point. He’s just pure nihilism in human form. He hates humanity, and he hates himself. A deep dark chasm is where his heart should be. The only two people who he cares for and that give him humanity are his sister and Tenma.

Yeah, pretty much... I've finished the entire series by now and that sounds about right. I have a hell of a lot to say about Johan in particular but will likely save all that for a video on its own lmao
