You are brilliant. Thank you for this very useful video. The concept of carding acrylic yarn and using it as core material for felting or stuffing is a bit of a game changer. It’s exciting to learn new tricks. At 75, it’s renewing! Thanks Philippa. You are at the front of innovations in felting. Hugs from Canada. Jane.
the yarn u use in this vid is very nice looking! it gives me a lot of ideas, i use the 100% acrylic yarn, it comes out smoothly and its cheaper than the premade stuff u buy online. also, with the smaller bits at the end are neater, so i put those aside instead of mixing them together incase i need a smoother finish on my felted project. i prefer carding my own wool over buying felt any day!
I'm just now looking at this as a hobby to start doing while my wife crochets. Your videos have already caught my eye four times. This video and explanation has made me subscribe to your channel and I will be following you closely as I Venture into this hobby. Thank you very much for being so clear and concise.
thanks a lot for making good quality videos. I'm not a felter (will do it as a hobby soon) but I enjoyed watching your video. This is very good to encourage people to do a hobby without spending so much money. I often get sad when I see some designers and artisans are so commercial and only promote expensive materials and equipment. Also, I appreciate that your video has good camera angles, lighting and good sound quality. You are amazing
Thank you!! That is so lovely to hear as I do try to get good lighting and some different angles plus my new microphone is really good, thanks for appreciating the other things beside the content xx
I often wondered about attempting this, so I’m watching with interest. I’ve got different yarns so it will see what results I come up with. Thank you Phillips. 😊
What good timing! I purchased a couple of carders last week as Ive made the mistake getting too much tops instead of carded wool and realise how much easier it is to felt carded after attending a 2D felting course. I will definitely have a go at this too.
I've tried this with some wool i unpicked and what i did was to use a heart shaped cookie cutter and felted the wool in the cutter. I then strung the felted hearts into bunting. Its not perfect by any means but i enjoyed doing it. ❤
I never even thought of that. I would have liked to see those used as a finish. I think they could work really well for 2D as well, since they already were homogenous mixes and also have a bit of a sheen to them... I really need to get dog-brushes... Budget is tight, though.^^ Well, after the craft fair season I'll have see where the finances are :D
Wow, such a great idea. Do you have a video for carding merino wool Phillipa? I have carding brushes but I can’t seem to get it right and I end up with a tangled and knotted mess. Thank you for sharing this video with us. 💕
Hi, I don't at the moment but I could look into it a bit more. I use my drum carded for merino really, the only thought is to trim the merino in half maybe but not sure how it would end up looking after carding it. Definitely something I could look at doing a video for, thanks so much xx
Have you made/can you make a video including information about the clay hooves(or other clay bits)? Making them and how to attach them? ^_^ I just found you and LOVE your videos!! 👋 from Georgia, USA
I cover that in my online courses on Thinkific as it's a more involved process and took time to perfect, glad you like the channel and thanks for watching xx
I've recently learned about glow in the dark yarn, I wonder if this method would work and it would still retain its ability to glow? I've thought that felting a glow in the dark piece could be a lot of fun!

Thankvyou so much! That's very kind of you, yes, it's a great one for using up old wool, thanks for watching ❣️xx
A very useful video, helps cross off a few question marks about carding wool scraps👍🏻. Definitely worth giving it a go , thanks Philippa xx🌻💕
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching xx

I was impressed with how good some of the wool came out so it is definitely a good option to try for the future, thanks for watching xx
Interesting! I'm a former weaver and have bins of wool yarn and haven't known what to do with it. I'll have to give his a try.
Excellent, glad you liked it xx

It was fun to try out and I have already used all the wool I carded out, thanks for watching xx
Genius! I have quite a bit of yarn from when I tried ( and failed) at crochet, think I will give this a go. Thanks Philippa!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching xx

Excellent, some wool fine tops can go a bit bobbly so just sample a small piece first, most wools are absolutely fine though xx
I've always done this to pompoms I make myself, it never crossed my mind to try to felt it. Thank you for thus video 😊❤
No problem, glad you like it xx
Aula maravilhosa, muito obrigada por explicar tão bem 🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕

I got a bag of 'wool' from thrift store, and none had the labels. This will help me alot. Thanks for doing this. (the States)
Glad it was helpful! xx
Very cool! Hadn't thought of trying this.
Thanks for watching xx

It's great to be able to repurpose old wool x
If it’s more tightly wound I undo strands then brush, but I prefer super chunky with my hands it falls to bits :)
I never even thought of that.

Yes, they would be perfect for 2D work for sure xx

@@feltsbyphilippaI’d appreciate that thanks Phillipa. 💕💕
Wonder if you can re spin it , will try this , good video thankyou
I think so, once you have it fully carded there are no lumps so it should be possible xx
Very interesting
Glad you think so! x

I think it definitely would be fine as the glowy bits are very small so worth trying xx
❤️❤️❤️
Has anyone tried this with wool fabric from a coat?
I haven't, you would probably have to cut it up quite fine but worth a go xx
