All you people with negative comments, put your life up on the internet and let us judge the worthiness of your existence. This incredible conceptual artist, has left a legacy which few will ever have the ability to achieve. She is legendary. And you, well lets just say, when you die you might leave a tomb stone. 51 yrs young and have been listening and buying this great woman's artistry since 1975. AMAZING GRACE.
Back in those days, my parents liked her music, just like I did. But I didn't mind as I saw her, they reacted 'is this hér?!', yep, and they tried to imagine someone else. Our generation never did that, we loved her. Irony : Grace is born in '48, so is my mother.
Awesome. I remember her from '91. I was invited to the opening of a new club in Tokyo. My boss was a rich entrepreneur and took all of us in a limousine. We went in and there was a stage. We sat down and moments later, it was like... "Ladies and Gentlemen...Miss Grace Jones. I was like...no way. We hadn't been told anything. And then the curtain slowly opened to reveal the "full on" Grace Jones. My jaw dropped. There she was, an icon, 10 feet away. I was blown away. I'll never forget it.
Grace Jones' "Slave To The Rhythm" is the greatest album ever recorded!! Kudos to GJ, Trevor Horn, Stephen Lipson, JuJu House (the great Washington, D.C. Go-Go drummer who played the drum track for the ages on this record), and all of the rest of the beautiful people who had anything to do with this record.
..Of Course none of this would have been possible without the GENIUS OF SLY & ROBBIE...The Greatest musicians and producers ever to come out of Jamaica !!
She is an Original, Love this song the beat and it's music captures me. She again captures the esscence of true originality and she was ahead of her time. Many today, other artist have obviously copied or imitated GRACE. Used to listen to this while I rode my bike through Central Park in NY. Love it and is classic that shall never grow old a timeless piece of music made by a great lady.
Incredible how Grace Jones could mold herself into a new character with every new presentation. I also love her contralto voice and all the nuances she gives to it.For me she embodies the end of the 70's and all the 80's. She was like this creative animal that couldn't stop bringing new things and images all the time
Grace Jones used to terrify me when I was a child! But there is no denying her talent, her ability to shock and confront with styles and music which is so cutting edge. This lady is a true icon.
wow....wow......i m hearing and seeing Grace for the first time in like 20 years...why? what a voice! i wished i d like this music back in the day but at least we have you tube to be able to listen and see....this still sounds great..not totally dated......she s hot
saw her live in LA in 79 or 80. She came out on stage completely naked, in a cage, crawled out like a panther and electrified the entire room. Remarkable. Love the original vinyl recording. Trevor Horn and his writing partners' masterpiece.
- Trevor Horn is arguably one of the greatest Producers of all time! - Art Of Noise, Grace Jones, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, ABC, the list goes on & on!!
@PopCulture20 Young man, age has nothing to do with having an appreciation for outstanding music... I only wish you could have been with us back then in the '80's to not only listen to this but be on the dance floor moving to the rhythm of the crowd. It was hypnotic! We were all on a high... a high on life and ageless music.... You are truly blessed.
she was the most awesome & still is...i loved playing her music in my radio shows & in the niteclubs in the 80's, but i never saw her live...amour toujours!
This is the track to play when you are deciding which sound system to put in your front room !! What a classic, utterly fantastic tune from the Un-real Grace !! Love her to bits !!!
How sick is this track. A Trevor Horn masterpiece working so well will Grace's vocals. Elements of DC go-go funk percussion, symphonic overlays, and that super funky Nile Rogers-esque rhythm guitar. Just the right BPM too. I always use this song to soundcheck the fidelity and balance of a clubs PA system.
Oh Lord!! Everyone give it up already. Appreciate the TIME, The ARTIST and above all THE song, WHAT A SONG. (In My Opinion). Am I just ALONE on that ONE??
this is by far one of the most important pieces of music ive ever heard in my life! this is the best version ive ever heard.absolute majic! i remember the day it came out ,i ran out and bought itt and it never left my turntable
I don't want to die without getting to know her.. She is pure perfection. I wish I was rich just to have her designing every kind of thing so I could have one of everything designed by her. She is the style and class goddess!
Grace rocks.. saw her sing this live in Manhattan, NYC, NEW YORK STATE... USA. at the NYC Coliseum on Roller Skates.. everyone was skating around. to her song.. live and direct.
Handsomely Gorgeous ! I love this phrase because it accurately describes Grace Jones. Back in the day people didn't know what to make of her so she defined herself and in the process won my admiration and lust for the male/female icon she became. I'm not only a slave to the rhythm, I'm a willing slave to the force of nature that is Grace Jones . . . . .
I never went to any of her concerts but i like some of her songs, and this is 1 of them,My most momerable about her was when she was in movie "A FEW TO A KILL" and she swung on a rope across the water and excaped the person after her,i remember the "SAN FRANCISCO" red bridge "THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE" i like that movie too,My aunt said she saw her in concert and said "GRACE JONES" made FECES on the stage while singing a song,WELL i was taught as a performer the show must go on,NEVER STOP if it DROP
6:31 - the reason I bought a Honda Scooter wayback in the dayback ... Grand Dame Grace Jones. C'est magnifique! Respect - Jah Bless. D. (the 4th Letter)
She was so different back in the day, that not many people knew what to think of her. She didnt fit any mold. I remember just looking at her and staring....so unusual. I think that's why her and Bowie got along.
I'm so glad I read the replies down to see this. Hon, ethnic is beauty... beauty of spirit crosses all bounds. Black, white, asian, the mixing of the races enters an exotic that is mind bending in it's beauty. Grace with her classic features and beauty is a joy and she is not "perfect" but instead uses any flaws to gracious delight as we all should do. I hope you let your art and creative nature sing in what ever way your soul takes you. Bless and peace.
This song has always sent shivers up/ down my spine. Superb vibe.

Back in those days, my parents liked her music, just like I did. But I didn't mind as I saw her, they reacted 'is this hér?!', yep, and they tried to imagine someone else. Our generation never did that, we loved her. Irony : Grace is born in '48, so is my mother.
Grace makes me think of my young and innocent youth of the 80s. Exotic beauty, love her!!
Saw her in concert in 1979 was fabulous, now she's divine.
Awesome. I remember her from '91. I was invited to the opening of a new club in Tokyo. My boss was a rich entrepreneur and took all of us in a limousine. We went in and there was a stage.
