I haven't seen Gavan yet. I didn't mind Granseizer. I liked Justirizer. Justirizer actually gave a reason for why a form wasn't used that much. Or rather why they didn't want to use the form that much.
The Good: The giant mecha dragon with practical fire effects (so cool), the puppies (seriously, a lot of tiny doggos in this show), occasionally some of the Makyuu space things (fighting on top of a giant gun, or inside the ribcage of a dead kaiju, or on the side of a building) The Bad: Using the same stock footage of the mecha dragon every single time (it...just blows up the same 3 spaceships every time), the main bad guy being a statue, losing our main female lead for a good chunk of the show (not her fault, but it still hurts the show a little), most of Makyuu space backgrounds not being used very well or being kind of generic after a while, The Terri-Bad: Having to sit through Gavan's transformation sequence twice (EVERY. EPISODE!), the plot not really existing until like the last 3 episodes, Seriously, though, the Metal Heroes show DOES get better from here. Jiraiya is probably my pick for the best I've seen, it's just has the best overall vibe for me and it's a lot of fun. Spielban (half of VR Troopers) probably has the best story, even if it is a weird one. Metalder...has REALLY good suits, but it's probably a little disappointing that it doesn't go a little farther (still third best for me). Jaspion/Juspion's a improved upon Gavan. Jiban...I want someone else to watch like the first couple episodes of Jiban, just to see if they feel the same way I do about how the show comes across or if it's just me. Really hoping we get full subs for the B-Fighters and Janperson. Janperson looks REALLY good to me. Also, do Ecogainder at some point. The whole show is about as long as one movie and...it's great. (You'll get that later)
Tip, Juspion has an official sub, so you might need to buy it, the other Metal Heroes that aren't fully subbed are Exceedraft, Janperson, Blue Swat, B-fighter, B-fighter Kabuto, and Kabutack and Robotack, but Idk if you want to watch those. Exceedraft is in ep 20, Janperson has like 22, Blue Swat has like 5, B-fighter has 21 and Kabuto has a couple. Kabutack and Robotack have like the frst two, I think. I'm quite excited that you are watching Metal Heroes, they are pretty cool, Metalder has been one of my faves and I really love the B-fighter suit designs the most. For Gavan, my opinions are mostly the same, I also kinda liked those weird semi-horror shots in some scenes and this is just a fun series to watch, the fight scenes can be really good and some parts of the plots can be good. Like with Sonny Chiba and the bad guys are ok, there could've been more, but whatevs. Those dragon special effects are so crazy lol and the theme song is great. Post-Metal Hero content is weird, I feel like they wanted to revive them again with all of those movies, especially with the Kyuranger one, I liked them, hope there can be more.
I actually liked the in suit fight scenes much more than it seemed you guys did... until somewhere past the halfway point where they started feeling excruciatingly formulaic. Over all I actually really really love this show, and it's mostly due to Kenji Ohba.
"Maybe Sharivan will have something different" Well, I'm sorry to tell you, but Sharivan is just Gavan, but slower, longer, and with two bland people as the main characters. I personally give a 9/10 to Gavan and a 4/10 to boring ass Sharivan.
Gavan is just ok and I've always said Kenji Ohba just carries the whole thing on its own. If they didn't have him, it'd be a mediocre show. Sharivan is better and while it starts as Gavan 2 for awhile and then it gets so much more interesting Shaider is weird, but it's bad imo
Gavan is a great season. Maybe the Best Metal Hero ever. The season is powerful, full of a Lot of action and drama, that shocked me.
