    Love it. You will too! I just bought a new 2024 Outback -- about $10k less than a Forester. Think I just hit 100 miles on it. Retired and only go to the Dr's office, supermarket and back home. It will outlast me. Got the base model and only added the accessories I wanted from Amazon or eBay (genuine Subaru parts but much less than at dealer).

    Great car! Main things to look for on those are torn CV axle boots, exhaust leaks, head gaskets, automatic transmissions. It's kind of hit or miss on all of those things! That being said, my mother has been driving Subaru Outbacks since 1994 and I liked this body style.

    My son-in-law had that generation Outback. It served him well. He now drives a Legacy. My daughter has a '17 Outback, my granddaughter has a '19 Crosstrek, and I have a '20 Outback. We're a Subie family. 😀
    Just be aware that your model year was among the years that Subaru was having head gasket issues. I'd be willing to guess that over 200k, they have probably been replaced in your car.

    Pretty sure the Subaru's that year had the boxer motor where they were known to blow head gaskets, so might want to keep an eye on antifreeze leaks or antifreeze consumption or oil in the antifreeze. They were good cars overall but they did have that notorious head gasket problem. But for $300 bucks, wow good buy Sammy.

    • @brianmcintyre6407
      @brianmcintyre6407 28 днів тому

      Youre right. Too bad they didn't check the cylinder head gaskets for oil leaks when the car was lifted off the ground. Those engines, I have a 2009 Forester, primarily leak oil from the bottom of those gaskets. On my car you see the oil starting to seep from them on the bottom where the cylinder head meets the block. I think the bigger issue they face now are the bearings and steering components. My 09 sat for over a year, needed all new bearings, lower control arms, sway bar bushings, end links and the preventative timing belt change, just to get up and running reliably and safely. All easy fixes.

    Is the brake fluid still ok?

    Those are great cars - Rust head gaskets and timing belts seem to be the only things that kill them. When ever I saw one at the JY I would snag the rubber mat out of the rear for laying on in the door yard.

    You should consider changing the timing belt because if that breaks that kind of engine will have the pistons banging into the valves and ruin the engine. I had an Impreza and that is exactly what happened to mine.

    Enhorabuena por la compra de tu " nuevo" coche.
    Subaru me parece una compañía japonesa de autos fiables. Y 300$ me parece un precio estupendo. También lo del radio cassette me parece algo entrañable.
    Por otra parte y dado el alto kilometraje del coche, te recomendaría un cambio de aceite, tanto de motor como de transmisión y de diferenciales. Así como el líquido de frenos, refrigerante, y por supuesto hacerle la distribución.
    Con todo eso creo que cuidándolo como sueles hacer, ese coche te durará otras 200.000 millas más.
    Gracias por compartirlo, saludos.

    That particular year, they are known to blow head gaskets at around. 200,000 and it’s motor out to change them, it’s a fault with the kind of gaskets Subaru used, but they never admitted to it, it goes right up to the 2010 models.

    Lucky on that transmission. I've had vehicles in the past that sit about that long and wouldn't move because the valves in the transmission became stuck in place over time. I'd get another from the salvage yard and same thing with it. Of course they might have improved the quality of fluids nowadays that won't get sticky gummy in tight places.

    I've certainly seen rustier cars that's for sure. I decided to let go of a Ford at around the 15 year mark because the floor and front subframe had begun to move on to the afterlife and the thing just wasn't safe anymore. Michigan winters and salt. blah. Anyways, I've always liked these late 90's and 2000's subarus. Very smartly styled and tons of character. For a while I lusted after the mid-late 2000's Legacy spec.B.
