I sooo agree with Jose about health! I moved to Mexico two years ago. I always had high blood pressure, approx. (145/95) due to so much processed food and stress. Two years living in Mexico has reduced my blood pressure to approx. 120/77 (normal). 👍
The food here in Mexico is just as processed, and is generally awful for you. Far less healthily options compared to our northern neighbor. The people here live in what you call food deserts and have wild high diabetes and shorter life spans due to the things you just mentioned. Expats (immigrants) from the USA are a joke.
Hi Jose, Your friend from Queretaro... You know my story and the cops and being in prison for a traffic ticket.. Well, I have a new one for you not me, but my cousin who lives in Oaxaca City!! He was contacted by 2 FBI agents who just came to Oaxaca City and told him they were going to arrest him here in Mexico and bring him back to the states for not paying some sort of taxes!! He was lucky this happened in the front of his Jewelry shop and he had one of his employees a Mexican women go for the local police!! 5 mins. later the local police arrive 2 cops and they order the FBI to take off the cuffs from my cousin. They demand to know what is going on the FBI show their ID's and the local cops order them out of my cousins shop and they arrest the FBI agents those 2 agents are then sent to immigration and they a deported from Mexico. This just happened last Tuesday to my cousin, so if the U.S. has the cohones to come to Mexico to arrest someone without permission what do you think they'll do to you if you go back to the U.S. I will never step one toe on U.S. soil ever again!!!
Wow that is crazy! Glad to hear your brother is ok! I have actually heard of various stories just like that in the past in fact Dog the Bounty Hunter once came into Mexico to arrest someone and bring them back and he was also detained by Mexican police and charged with kidnaping and also deported and it was all captured in one of his episodes! Viva Mexico!

Each time I went back to the U.S. the airport CBP treated me with little more than a shrug; but then again I’m the very epitome of the 50-Something Invisible White Dude. What did get me upon being in the US for a period of time was paying 5-star prices for 2-star crap

Hey Jose, on another topic, I wanted to mention something I have been thinking about regarding what you say regarding having more "freedom" in Mexico. This isn't a flame a promise you. You are right in a way I think. There is more freedom in Mexico. But the reason there is effectively more freedom is Mexico is, in part, because there is very lax enforcement of the laws in Mexico. (You have alluded to this in various videos, I think.) And if you are a libertarian sort of guy then this is a win I suppose. The unfortunate downside is here is that Mexico is also plagued by the bad side of this sort of freedom, which is impunity. Consider the fact that there are tons of laws on the books in Mexico to prevent corruption. But que crees...they are almost never enforced. I don't know how to draw the line here. But freedom via the back door of lax enforcement on balance maybe hinders more than helps Mexico imho. Anyhoo. Just some thoughts. Peace bro.

I love living in Mexico. Everything i like is illegal in the states. We definitely have a kot in common. Jose my drivers license expired sometime during the obama administration. But, i have a Mexican drivers license. Cost 800 pesos and is fully valid to drive in the usa.. sending this to the passport bros group enlightened western men

If you come to Mexico City you can go to the Chapulteoec castle, it's a really nice place with a beautiful view of the city. Very close to the castle is the museum of antropology and a lake where you can rent boats but you have to pedal Also in the same area there's Los Pinos (the equivalent of the white house) but the current president turned it into a museum. In the main square, zócalo, there's the palacio nacional, there are murals painted by Diego Rivera there. There are a lot of museum, Mexico City is the 2nd city with the most museums after London. If you don't like museums you can go to Xochimilco, there are canals where you can rent a trajinera (boat). The are new telepherics for public transportation, they're not in the turistic zone but some turists try them.😁 (One thing, don't go to Garibaldi, it is ugly and dangerous).
I came to the US at 19. It was a culture shock. This days for you it will be better outside the US. Most younger people speak some English. Do some research and just go for it. Life flies and you might regret it later.
The hardest part is taking the first step. Most people will suffer more staying in their horrible position in the USA than dealing with whatever hardships will come from moving to a new country. You only live once, make the most out of it.
Well, that depends on you. If you want to answer questions at the airport, the question is what are they going to do to you for not answering questions. Are they going to detain you?
Yup if you dont cooperate they only make things worse. The reason they can do this in Airports is because Airports are classified as a special area in all countries and certain laws and procedures are allowed there that are not allowed in the actual country. So many officials in many countries take full advantage of that and the USA aint no exception
I'm keeping a mail forwarding service in my former home state so that I can renew my DL one last time (I'm 65) and have it sent to Oaxaca. BUT...we have not returned to the U.S. in over 1.5 years we've been down here. We learned how to do visa runs (until we get residency) just by flying to TJ and getting a new stamp at the airport. Yeah, I hear you on all the many reasons not to return. My worst nightmare is that I won't be allowed to return to Mexico. I mean, walls can be built to keep people out or keep people IN eh?
I don't think Mexico will ever shut its borders to that extent. The Mexican Government is extremely happy to see so many foreigners wanting to live and invest in Mexico. You should be more worried about the USA finding a reason to not allow you to leave ever again. Thanks for sharing!
I'm in Central Texas, I have a great Texas life and a wonderfull property allowing full sustainability, but I fear my freedom in coming Months/yrs,I also see our own govt poisoning it's people, we're about to be severely Taxed out of our wealth, failing everything, I want to be treated well at home, not mistreated and feeling threatened, I'll be scouting Mexico/ Uruguay as soon as my passports clear! What I can't understand is why asset forfeiture can happen when a cop or a law enforcement agency wants it to happen. You didn't lose a trial or anything. But your money or assets in a bank can be taken. Also speaking of random violence. Just earlier this week a football player who is on the 49ers team. He was shot during an attempted robbery. Some how the bullet missed any vital organs. He was able to workout again after skipping a day.
I live in Merida, I avoid flying thru US, when I visit family in Colombia. I can never go back because I am so spoiled with the politeness and manners here and I dont want to see the hatefulness I left .
Boy I know what you're talking about Jose, had a lot put on me, dealing with taking care of family, I envy you, I'm no hater, I'm happy for you and those who were and are able to escape the U.S., I can see why so many have a hard time learning how to destress but a couple shots of tequila can help. In my state they make you show your valid state license or Id to vote as well but the Id for most everything is real.

Awesome! Welcome aboard! I earn money by being a UA-camr which is why I am still poor 😅 But it is slowly paying off as I have found other ways to monetize what I do. As someone who lives in the U.S., grew up in NYC and has several close friends who serve in law enforcement I must say it was painful to watch this video. I’ve watched many of your other ones and felt they brought value for the time spent. There’s obviously an underlying problem that you had or have because you keep referring to what law enforcement may do. Jose law enforcement is not out to get law abiding citizens, it’s that plain and simple. Anyone can get pulled over and questioned. It’s how the individual handles themself that either can escalate or deescalate. Proof of that is all over UA-cam. Anywhere can be dangerous and Mexico has its share of States or areas in cities that are dangerous so let’s not skim over that. You have your reasons for not wanting to return and that’s your choice but to find everything negative about living here is an over exaggeration on your part. At this point it sounds like you should renounce your citizenship 🤦♂️. This is your channel and have every right to voice your discontent based on your life experiences which you have. I’m just stating my feelings after watching this particular video from start to finish. Ironically I have the first part of my Permanent Residency completed and will be traveling to Mexico in upcoming months to complete it. I’m not moving to Mexico because I a dissatisfied with the U.S.. Things will change but it’s a matter of time. I am relocating because I really like the culture and it will improve my quality of life not that it’s so bad. Any how no place is perfect, to me it’s a mindset and optimistic one that I chose. Valid international drivers license and your passport can rent a car in Us. Also we use Id when voting! Please be truthful on your video. We have enough false news going around. You can get your wife in the us if you really wanted to visit.
oh ok have you rented a car with a foreign license and a US Passport? As for voting the only Valid ID should be a voters registration Card just like every other country on earth, not just ANY ID. I know a woman who has a visa to visit the U.S. She was a madam and was jailed on drug charges in Milan for one year. Wandering if she will pass the immigration. I hope not! For me they always ask what date I left the Country and the reason why I left. Wandering why they ask it because I feel harassed. Aren’t we free to come and go? I’m in Brazil now and coming back soon. So nice to be able to dis stress from the pressure of living in the U.S.
Yeah they ask you questions they already have the answer to. They love to interrogate people. I think the reason they do that at the airport is to remind you that you are now entering the USA and to keep you intimidated, scared, and on your toes. I guess I am just crazy because I do not like people violating my rights or my privacy. I don't like making excuses for how we are treated by authority in the USA and it all starts at the border and gets progressively worse as you travel within the country.
@3:25.Does Mexico do a background check on residency applications? I have heard that most other Latin American countries do. I have a past as a young adult (early 1980s) that I want to bury. I may return to Mexico someday and apply for residency, but for now, I am in South America and planning on moving further South.
As far as I know they do not really check that. But i dont really know. I got my residency through marriage and they didnt ask me anything. Same as those who get residency through the RNE program also dont get asked. But I am not sure how it would work in a Mexican Consulate abroad trying to get residency through financial solvency. Hi Jose. I’ve been a border town person (not currently) and as such we went back and forth almost on a daily basis in the 70s and 80s. As a kid, I loved going 🇲🇽 , stayed 2 summers with family - it was amazing. Some things were quite different and a lot the same, but the sense of freedom I felt was more obvious to me even as a child. Watching your video helped me realize I felted an open feeling when i was there, like anything can happen, yet there’s balance and harmony at the same time. I remember the old bakery we used to go to, with the oven in the wall, it smelled like heaven in there. The fiestas were so special and magical from a child’s point of view. Yes I saw the poverty, extreme poverty too, but also witnessed families giving whatever food or things they could to help. I enjoy your videos, good job. Here in the states I stress out a lot not gonna lie. I want to live in Mexico, someday, working on it. 🙏 😊 I also want to say I love the USA I’ve had some amazing feeling here too growing up. I love this country with all my heart. But it’s not this beautiful country that I want to leave, it’s the direction it’s going. It doesn’t matter if you’re blue or red, it the big $$$ - The 👁️ that’s always watching, the CONTROL they inflict on the people that’s making it harder to exist ($) and be free here 😢 AND as a border town person I always felt like I belonged to both USA 🇺🇸 and 🇲🇽 equally because they both have my ❤

Both my parents left communist Cuba and they suffered a lot because they would have preferred to stay in Cuba but had no choice but to leave because the Cuba they once knew and loved no longer existed. It really does hurt that the USA is going in the direction it is going and that I can actually find more peace, freedom and safety in Mexico. it is the sad reality we must all learn to live with and for many of us it is still a very tough pill to swallow. i hope things change for the better in the USA but I am not going to be sticking around to find out. You can't tell me you are not homesick. Just walk across. Don't let them control you. I always go back. The USA is not like you are describing it to be. And you don't need to rent a car; they have Uber. You should go back and take care of everything, like getting an ID. It takes 10 minutes. Sooner or later, you are going to need to update your passport. You and your wife should be free to travel wherever you want. And yes, it's not easy getting a VISA. I am still working on getting my wife a VISA and we have been married for 4 years.
No thanks. I am not homesick nor am I interested in going back to a country that doesn't even want me there. I am not going to break any Laws on illegal entry and give them another reason to harass me and detain me and worse. I can renew my passport easily at my local American Consulate. I don't need a US drivers license or ID and I don't have anything to take care of in the USA. I have no interest in returning to tyranny. I am very happy where I am in Mexico a Free country
You can renew your US passport in Mexico at a US consulate office. You might want to renew your US drivers license if you think you will come back permanently otherwise a Mexican drivers license is fine on a temporary return to the US.

Jose sorry buddy you are wrong. Mexican driving license is ok for renting a car and also ok with the cops as long as its not out of date Your passport will suffice for everything too!! As ID!! I did it 2vears ago !! My wife and I applied for a green card and have been waiting 1.5 years We had to send them 50 documents to prove we are a real couple and we married in Colorado !! It's been a nightmare. They will not let us go there for a while as we applied from Mexico !! She will be refused entry even with her tourist visa because she's going thru the process
Oh ok you go on right ahead and present that to a police officer in the USA when you get pulled over next time and let us know how that goes for you. Also if you are a foreigner in the USA then YES the only acceptable ID is a Passport. But as a US Citizen even if Legally you can use your passport, they can and will deny that form of ID and demand a drivers license in many cases. The reason is because the license in their eyes is more current and has the most important thing they are looking for on it, which is your home address or state of residence. Either way i'm sure and positive there are good cops and others out there who not only know the actual law but abide by them and therefore allowing you to use your passport, but the reality is that those are too few and far in between to what you actually find out there. Yes I have thought about that and researched it and it actually doesn't seem that bad or intrusive. It is not like dealing with a border agent. i will keep you guys posted when I do renew it
They can also seize the car of people who they SUSPECT committed a crime. Even after they are proven wrong, it takes months to get the car back. In addition, if you carry cash in the car, and they search it, they can keep the cash without charging you with a crime.
That's right. There is a name for it..... highway robbery and kidnapping at gun point.... Happened to me and so many others i know. Much safer out here in Mexico. I have yet to be kidnapped or held at gunpoint. Thanks for sharing
USA: Jaywalking is strictly enforced. Jaywalk and be ready to be frisked and run for warrants. MEXICO: Jaywalk if you want, but do it in a safe manner. If a cop sees you jaywalking he will cruise on by. CONCLUSION: Mexican society allows you to breathe and live free. If you cross the line and act the fool, the cops will mess you up. Act responsibility and you are good to go.

I have been an expatriate in the USA for too many years. Many people from the my culture admit loosing their interest for living after a few years. Mexico seems to be so much more oriented with family values and safer. Seriously considering moving to Mexico very soon.

Once I left the USA I left all of my worries about the USA in the USA. Last time i flew in Mexico on a Domestic flight I wasn't even asked ONCE to present my ID. So no I have never been worried about anything in Mexico regarding my past in the US. The reality is that all petty crimes are not enforced outside of the borders of the USA. So there is no legal avenue in which the state of Texas, the USA, or any other state for that matter can come to Mexico and extradite anyone on ANY petty crime. Only in the USA can they lock you up and throw away the key on crimes that dont hurt anyone. Only in the USA is everything you do a crime.
Get a Mexican driver license, I know it is good in the US for at least 90 days, no problema. Getting a new US driver license after letting it expire is going to be a lot of work, my wife had to do it after we came back from Mexico.

I flew back from Mexico after being gone for only 6 days and I had a sand and shell bottle I made, Texas pulled me aside and they said “we have to test your sand” lol wth? I thought oh no what if I grabbed the wrong sand hehe
So I have lived in Mexico a little longer than you, and I have been back to the United States multiple times, don't really encounter most of your things to be concerned with list. If your passport is in good standing, you know if it is, you will not have any problems. Yes they ask about status, just normal stuff. But traffic tickets and other minor things, they often can see it on a computer screen but they are not going to hold you or extradite you for a traffic ticket. Culture shock is a big issue, there are as many rules in Mexico as the United States, but the rules that are important and enforced in Mexico and the US are worlds apart, literally. And immediately as you spend time in the US you feel and see a sense of being busy, an underlying stress that is more rare in Mexico.. the difference is some degree of urgency or importance that is not part of everyday Mexico or Mexicans. It's sounds weird but Americans are just more uptight than average Mexican. A really big difference is kids..in Mexico the children are just a little bit less sophisticated than in the US, again sounds strange but Mexican children act more like regular kids and still have some simplicity and sincerity that is lacking in lots of American culture. Mexico is growing and it's growing away from traditions.. so Carl's Jr, Domino's, McDonald's are a thing in Mexico, it's just way way to a lesser degree. Americans are in a turbo mode to distance themselves from one another, and it's happening in Mexico on a smaller scale.. When I cross north I feel a little more stress.. and when I go south I feel a little bit of relief.. can't put my finger on one or two, three things specifically it's just an overall essence.. the people at the border have a job to do, more difficult and complicated by the day, by the minute. And they have a very very tiny window to see you, ask a question or 2 and follow their training.. so if someone at the border is a little bit of a hardass. It's their job.. don't take it personally

As you said it's their job to harass law abiding citizens. They punish you for doing the right thing. I understand there are people who dont mind abuse of authority, but there are others who do find this extremely disturbing. I know plenty of people "my own family included" who have never even gotten a parking ticket get harassed by over zealous cops and by power tripping airport security/border patrol. Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesnt not mean it doesn't happen. It is a sad reality of what the USA has turned into. So many Americans constantly make excuses for the behavior of all these authority figures who are constantly violating our rights. He like many Americans love to make excuses for the violations of constitutional rights and freedoms in the U.S. It has become a cottage industry making excuses for violating both the constitution and the Bill of Rights without any reason or anything else!! Like I said above they violated my rights and others rights within the country then they come to Mexico and try to violate Mexico's sovereighty and that to the U.S. government is just normal. Ask my cousin about how grateful he is for the Mexican authorities and the freedom he feels as I do and you do here in Mexico. Again Good Job BRO!!!
It's not that easy. No one knows what is in the system and you could be detained and shipped off to Texas or whatever state you have had your situation is and once there the state will set everything straight while you wait in a jail cell. Also sometimes planes have to make emergency landings or even Layovers in Texas and you are also subject to the same checks as if you were traveling there. Either way it is too much of a risk for many people to take these days. Funny how they treat actual law abiding citizens entering the US Legally and how they treat those crossing the Southern US border illegally. Ironic don't you think?
On the topic of having to show ID... My story is: while I was on vacation in Arizona, I stopped at a LOVE'S Market/gas station to get some snacks and Gas as I was traveling back to my brother's place in my rental car ... I decided to purchase a Lighter so we could build a fire that night to sit around and make some SMORES.... Guess what??? YUP they wanted my driver's license to prove my age to buy a stupid lighter!!! I was so irritated I told the lady to take it back, and told her I could buy it at Dollar General or Walmart without showing my ID... I will just say I was over 50 years old at the time and I do look my age... Not like a careless teenager or something... It has gotten much worse... They also are now wanting everything be paid by credit or Debit card putting your identity in danger of theft... Yeah... I may only live half-time in Mexico but I do feel MUCH more FREE when I am there!... Sad but true!
Wow that is a crazy story! While out here in Mexico I see kids regularly buying Alcohol and Cigarettes for adults who send them there to buy a few things and of course no one asks for any kind of ID. It is just nuts to me that in the USA they just threw common sense out the window a long time ago. You would think you could purchase anything by just looking your age, but nope you need to prove to them that the state has given you permission to do so. A US passport is not recognized as a valid ID? I have never heard that. As far as a driver's license is concerned, you can legally drive on a foreign DL for up to 3 months cumulatively in a year. I gave up my WI DL and use my Mexican one. Never had a problem (knock on wood). Always have my passport on hand in the US. Not saying your concerns aren't valid. The US is pretty effed up these days. The reverse culture shock is real. Like you am mucho much happier in Mexico. (My wife is Mexican, and she hates visiting the US for many of the reasons you mention.)
In some cases your passport is not a valid ID like for example opening up a bank account. For whatever reason they want to see an ID that has an address attached to it. Again thats not really my concern, it is more the fact you always have to carry ID with you because that in itself of not having ID is a crime and I don't like to carry my passport with me everywhere I go. As for the drivers license I have seen many times where a Mexican Drivers license is not a valid license in the eyes of many cops. Again i myself dont believe in Drivers Licenses and I subscribe to the fact that under the constitution we are granted the right of free travel without harassment therefore I know and understand my rights but still, try arguing with a US Cop on a routine traffic stop over your rights to see how that goes. So I am not interested in being in a position where I have to present a cop a Mexican Drivers license and begin to argue with him whether its valid or not. I guess that is more of the point I am trying to make. The fact that so many rules and regulations and laws infringe on our freedoms, well the few freedoms we have left..... if we even have any left..... And the abuse of power most cops have plus the impunity to do whatever they want whenever they want are enough reasons alone to make me not want to come back to the USA anytime soon.

Low IQ and a painful level of ignorance seem to be criteria for becoming a cop. But there is a reciprocity treaty between the USA and Mexico. You would have to look up all the requirements like translation etc. but If the license is from a legitimate Mexican authority and it isn't expired then there is reciprocity. Some States have commercial dl reciprocity too. Cops have immunity so they know they can act like absolute fools and the taxpayers will foot the bill if there even is a consequence. Oh i know
That is not always true. I have actually gotten turned down in the past trying to open up a bank account for example with just a passport. Not just me but many others in the USA have also dealt with similar situations. I know each state is very different but not all states recognize the passport like they should and they want you to get a local ID to do certain things.

@@JoseArteagaTravels Hola Jose y Christian! Most banks in the US require you to have a US address to maintain a bank account with them. I use my cousins address as my US address and still do all of banking there instead of where I now live in Mexico. A lot of people who move out of the US do this and even the young lady at one of my banks told me to just use a friend or relatives address and just do all of my banking needs online. People should be aware that banks in Mexico aren't at all like the banks in the US. When you walk in you don't just walk up to a teller and get money or do any other type of business. When you go in you have to take a number and have seat with a bunch of others and it can sometimes take well over an hour just to see someone or to deposit or withdraw any money. With my Charles Schwab account I can easily transfer money in minutes between my accounts as needed on a monthly basis and they refund any ATM fees and don't charge you an exchange rate or transfer fees. You should keep at least two bank accounts in the US. It's a safer way to keep track of your money and if you lose or have one of your cards stolen you can still get cash. I recommend them for anyone planning to move to Mexico. They also have a number one rated customer service that you can call any time if needed. Buenas suerte!

I moved to Mexico two years ago. I always had high blood pressure, approx. (145/95) due to so much processed food and stress. Two years living in Mexico has reduced my blood pressure to approx. 120/77 (normal). 👍

The food here in Mexico is just as processed, and is generally awful for you. Far less healthily options compared to our northern neighbor. The people here live in what you call food deserts and have wild high diabetes and shorter life spans due to the things you just mentioned. Expats (immigrants) from the USA are a joke.

Hi Jose, Your friend from Queretaro... You know my story and the cops and being in prison for a traffic ticket.. Well, I have a new one for you not me, but my cousin who lives in Oaxaca City!! He was contacted by 2 FBI agents who just came to Oaxaca City and told him they were going to arrest him here in Mexico and bring him back to the states for not paying some sort of taxes!! He was lucky this happened in the front of his Jewelry shop and he had one of his employees a Mexican women go for the local police!!
5 mins. later the local police arrive 2 cops and they order the FBI to take off the cuffs from my cousin. They demand to know what is going on the FBI show their ID's and the local cops order them out of my cousins shop and they arrest the FBI agents those 2 agents are then sent to immigration and they a deported from Mexico.
This just happened last Tuesday to my cousin, so if the U.S. has the cohones to come to Mexico to arrest someone without permission what do you think they'll do to you if you go back to the U.S. I will never step one toe on U.S. soil ever again!!!

Hey Jose, on another topic, I wanted to mention something I have been thinking about regarding what you say regarding having more "freedom" in Mexico. This isn't a flame a promise you.
You are right in a way I think. There is more freedom in Mexico. But the reason there is effectively more freedom is Mexico is, in part, because there is very lax enforcement of the laws in Mexico. (You have alluded to this in various videos, I think.) And if you are a libertarian sort of guy then this is a win I suppose.
The unfortunate downside is here is that Mexico is also plagued by the bad side of this sort of freedom, which is impunity. Consider the fact that there are tons of laws on the books in Mexico to prevent corruption. But que crees...they are almost never enforced. I don't know how to draw the line here. But freedom via the back door of lax enforcement on balance maybe hinders more than helps Mexico imho.
Anyhoo. Just some thoughts. Peace bro.

If you come to Mexico City you can go to the Chapulteoec castle, it's a really nice place with a beautiful view of the city. Very close to the castle is the museum of antropology and a lake where you can rent boats but you have to pedal Also in the same area there's Los Pinos (the equivalent of the white house) but the current president turned it into a museum. In the main square, zócalo, there's the palacio nacional, there are murals painted by Diego Rivera there. There are a lot of museum, Mexico City is the 2nd city with the most museums after London. If you don't like museums you can go to Xochimilco, there are canals where you can rent a trajinera (boat). The are new telepherics for public transportation, they're not in the turistic zone but some turists try them.😁 (One thing, don't go to Garibaldi, it is ugly and dangerous).

Everytime I see your videos I want to move to Mexico. Just makes me nervous stepping out of my comfort zone. I never left the USA.
I came to the US at 19. It was a culture shock. This days for you it will be better outside the US. Most younger people speak some English. Do some research and just go for it. Life flies and you might regret it later.
The hardest part is taking the first step. Most people will suffer more staying in their horrible position in the USA than dealing with whatever hardships will come from moving to a new country. You only live once, make the most out of it.
I highly recommend Thailand and the Philippines. It’s so much fun.

Well, that depends on you. If you want to answer questions at the airport, the question is what are they going to do to you for not answering questions. Are they going to detain you?
Yup if you dont cooperate they only make things worse. The reason they can do this in Airports is because Airports are classified as a special area in all countries and certain laws and procedures are allowed there that are not allowed in the actual country. So many officials in many countries take full advantage of that and the USA aint no exception
I'm keeping a mail forwarding service in my former home state so that I can renew my DL one last time (I'm 65) and have it sent to Oaxaca.
BUT...we have not returned to the U.S. in over 1.5 years we've been down here. We learned how to do visa runs (until we get residency) just by flying to TJ and getting a new stamp at the airport.

What I can't understand is why asset forfeiture can happen when a cop or a law enforcement agency wants it to happen. You didn't lose a trial or anything. But your money or assets in a bank can be taken.

As someone who lives in the U.S., grew up in NYC and has several close friends who serve in law enforcement I must say it was painful to watch this video. I’ve watched many of your other ones and felt they brought value for the time spent. There’s obviously an underlying problem that you had or have because you keep referring to what law enforcement may do. Jose law enforcement is not out to get law abiding citizens, it’s that plain and simple. Anyone can get pulled over and questioned. It’s how the individual handles themself that either can escalate or deescalate. Proof of that is all over UA-cam. Anywhere can be dangerous and Mexico has its share of States or areas in cities that are dangerous so let’s not skim over that. You have your reasons for not wanting to return and that’s your choice but to find everything negative about living here is an over exaggeration on your part. At this point it sounds like you should renounce your citizenship 🤦♂️. This is your channel and have every right to voice your discontent based on your life experiences which you have. I’m just stating my feelings after watching this particular video from start to finish. Ironically I have the first part of my Permanent Residency completed and will be traveling to Mexico in upcoming months to complete it. I’m not moving to Mexico because I a dissatisfied with the U.S.. Things will change but it’s a matter of time. I am relocating because I really like the culture and it will improve my quality of life not that it’s so bad. Any how no place is perfect, to me it’s a mindset and optimistic one that I chose. There’s a lot more but I’ll leave it at that.

I know a woman who has a visa to visit the U.S. She was a madam and was jailed on drug charges in Milan for one year. Wandering if she will pass the immigration. I hope not! For me they always ask what date I left the Country and the reason why I left. Wandering why they ask it because I feel harassed. Aren’t we free to come and go? @3:25.Does Mexico do a background check on residency applications? I have heard that most other Latin American countries do. I have a past as a young adult (early 1980s) that I want to bury. I may return to Mexico someday and apply for residency, but for now, I am in South America and planning on moving further South.
As far as I know they do not really check that. But i dont really know. I got my residency through marriage and they didnt ask me anything. Same as those who get residency through the RNE program also dont get asked. But I am not sure how it would work in a Mexican Consulate abroad trying to get residency through financial solvency. Hope that helps answer your question!
I did not have to have a background check for my residency application. I went to the consulate in Atlanta, GA. That was 9 months ago.

Hi Jose. I’ve been a border town person (not currently) and as such we went back and forth almost on a daily basis in the 70s and 80s. As a kid, I loved going 🇲🇽 , stayed 2 summers with family - it was amazing. Some things were quite different and a lot the same, but the sense of freedom I felt was more obvious to me even as a child. Watching your video helped me realize I felted an open feeling when i was there, like anything can happen, yet there’s balance and harmony at the same time. I remember the old bakery we used to go to, with the oven in the wall, it smelled like heaven in there. The fiestas were so special and magical from a child’s point of view. Yes I saw the poverty, extreme poverty too, but also witnessed families giving whatever food or things they could to help. I enjoy your videos, good job. Here in the states I stress out a lot not gonna lie. I want to live in Mexico, someday, working on it. 🙏 😊 I also want to say I love the USA I’ve had some amazing feeling here too growing up. I love this country with all my heart. But it’s not this beautiful country that I want to leave, it’s the direction it’s going. It doesn’t matter if you’re blue or red, it the big $$$ - The 👁️ that’s always watching, the CONTROL they inflict on the people that’s making it harder to exist ($) and be free here 😢 AND as a border town person I always felt like I belonged to both USA 🇺🇸 and 🇲🇽 equally because they both have my ❤

Both my parents left communist Cuba and they suffered a lot because they would have preferred to stay in Cuba but had no choice but to leave because the Cuba they once knew and loved no longer existed. It really does hurt that the USA is going in the direction it is going and that I can actually find more peace, freedom and safety in Mexico. it is the sad reality we must all learn to live with and for many of us it is still a very tough pill to swallow. i hope things change for the better in the USA but I am not going to be sticking around to find out. You can't tell me you are not homesick. Just walk across. Don't let them control you. I always go back. The USA is not like you are describing it to be. And you don't need to rent a car; they have Uber. You should go back and take care of everything, like getting an ID. It takes 10 minutes. Sooner or later, you are going to need to update your passport. You and your wife should be free to travel wherever you want. And yes, it's not easy getting a VISA. I am still working on getting my wife a VISA and we have been married for 4 years.
No thanks. I am not homesick nor am I interested in going back to a country that doesn't even want me there. I am not going to break any Laws on illegal entry and give them another reason to harass me and detain me and worse. I can renew my passport easily at my local American Consulate. I don't need a US drivers license or ID and I don't have anything to take care of in the USA. I have no interest in returning to tyranny. I am very happy where I am in Mexico a Free country
You can renew your US passport in Mexico at a US consulate office. You might want to renew your US drivers license if you think you will come back permanently otherwise a Mexican drivers license is fine on a temporary return to the US.

My wife and I applied for a green card and have been waiting 1.5 years We had to send them 50 documents to prove we are a real couple and we married in Colorado !! It's been a nightmare. They will not let us go there for a while as we applied from Mexico !! She will be refused entry even with her tourist visa because she's going thru the process

Also if you are a foreigner in the USA then YES the only acceptable ID is a Passport. But as a US Citizen even if Legally you can use your passport, they can and will deny that form of ID and demand a drivers license in many cases. The reason is because the license in their eyes is more current and has the most important thing they are looking for on it, which is your home address or state of residence. Either way i'm sure and positive there are good cops and others out there who not only know the actual law but abide by them and therefore allowing you to use your passport, but the reality is that those are too few and far in between to what you actually find out there. Yes I have thought about that and researched it and it actually doesn't seem that bad or intrusive. It is not like dealing with a border agent. i will keep you guys posted when I do renew it

They can also seize the car of people who they SUSPECT committed a crime. Even after they are proven wrong, it takes months to get the car back. In addition, if you carry cash in the car, and they search it, they can keep the cash without charging you with a crime.
That's right. There is a name for it..... highway robbery and kidnapping at gun point.... Happened to me and so many others i know. Much safer out here in Mexico. I have yet to be kidnapped or held at gunpoint. Thanks for sharing

MEXICO: Jaywalk if you want, but do it in a safe manner. If a cop sees you jaywalking he will cruise on by.
CONCLUSION: Mexican society allows you to breathe and live free. If you cross the line and act the fool, the cops will mess you up. Act responsibility and you are good to go.

I have been an expatriate in the USA for too many years. Many people from the my culture admit loosing their interest for living after a few years. Mexico seems to be so much more oriented with family values and safer. Seriously considering moving to Mexico very soon.

Once I left the USA I left all of my worries about the USA in the USA. Last time i flew in Mexico on a Domestic flight I wasn't even asked ONCE to present my ID. So no I have never been worried about anything in Mexico regarding my past in the US. The reality is that all petty crimes are not enforced outside of the borders of the USA. So there is no legal avenue in which the state of Texas, the USA, or any other state for that matter can come to Mexico and extradite anyone on ANY petty crime. Only in the USA can they lock you up and throw away the key on crimes that dont hurt anyone. Only in the USA is everything you do a crime.

Get a Mexican driver license, I know it is good in the US for at least 90 days, no problema. Getting a new US driver license after letting it expire is going to be a lot of work, my wife had to do it after we came back from Mexico.

So I have lived in Mexico a little longer than you, and I have been back to the United States multiple times, don't really encounter most of your things to be concerned with list. If your passport is in good standing, you know if it is, you will not have any problems. Yes they ask about status, just normal stuff. But traffic tickets and other minor things, they often can see it on a computer screen but they are not going to hold you or extradite you for a traffic ticket. Culture shock is a big issue, there are as many rules in Mexico as the United States, but the rules that are important and enforced in Mexico and the US are worlds apart, literally. And immediately as you spend time in the US you feel and see a sense of being busy, an underlying stress that is more rare in Mexico.. the difference is some degree of urgency or importance that is not part of everyday Mexico or Mexicans. It's sounds weird but Americans are just more uptight than average Mexican. A really big difference is kids..in Mexico the children are just a little bit less sophisticated than in the US, again sounds strange but Mexican children act more like regular kids and still have some simplicity and sincerity that is lacking in lots of American culture. Mexico is growing and it's growing away from traditions.. so Carl's Jr, Domino's, McDonald's are a thing in Mexico, it's just way way to a lesser degree. Americans are in a turbo mode to distance themselves from one another, and it's happening in Mexico on a smaller scale..
When I cross north I feel a little more stress.. and when I go south I feel a little bit of relief.. can't put my finger on one or two, three things specifically it's just an overall essence.. the people at the border have a job to do, more difficult and complicated by the day, by the minute. And they have a very very tiny window to see you, ask a question or 2 and follow their training.. so if someone at the border is a little bit of a hardass. It's their job.. don't take it personally
I guess I am just crazy because I do not like people violating my rights or my privacy. I don't like making excuses for how we are treated by authority in the USA and it all starts at the border and gets progressively worse as you travel within the country. As you said it's their job to harass law abiding citizens. They punish you for doing the right thing. I understand there are people who dont mind abuse of authority, but there are others who do find this extremely disturbing. I know plenty of people "my own family included" who have never even gotten a parking ticket get harassed by over zealous cops and by power tripping airport security/border patrol. Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesnt not mean it doesn't happen. It is a sad reality of what the USA has turned into. So many Americans constantly make excuses for the behavior of all these authority figures who are constantly violating our rights. Most people dont even know their rights are being violated because they are so conditioned into thinking that violating them is for their own protection. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us

i hear you. just do not fly into texas. fly to another state. Its not as bad you think it is.. but if you feel that way, stay in mexico.
It's not that easy. No one knows what is in the system and you could be detained and shipped off to Texas or whatever state you have had your situation is and once there the state will set everything straight while you wait in a jail cell. Also sometimes planes have to make emergency landings or even Layovers in Texas and you are also subject to the same checks as if you were traveling there. Either way it is too much of a risk for many people to take these days. Funny how they treat actual law abiding citizens entering the US Legally and how they treat those crossing the Southern US border illegally. Ironic don't you think?

On the topic of having to show ID... My story is: while I was on vacation in Arizona, I stopped at a LOVE'S Market/gas station to get some snacks and Gas as I was traveling back to my brother's place in my rental car ... I decided to purchase a Lighter so we could build a fire that night to sit around and make some SMORES.... Guess what??? YUP they wanted my driver's license to prove my age to buy a stupid lighter!!! I was so irritated I told the lady to take it back, and told her I could buy it at Dollar General or Walmart without showing my ID... I will just say I was over 50 years old at the time and I do look my age... Not like a careless teenager or something... It has gotten much worse... They also are now wanting everything be paid by credit or Debit card putting your identity in danger of theft... Yeah... I may only live half-time in Mexico but I do feel MUCH more FREE when I am there!... Sad but true!
Wow that is a crazy story! While out here in Mexico I see kids regularly buying Alcohol and Cigarettes for adults who send them there to buy a few things and of course no one asks for any kind of ID. It is just nuts to me that in the USA they just threw common sense out the window a long time ago. You would think you could purchase anything by just looking your age, but nope you need to prove to them that the state has given you permission to do so. It really is a sad state of affairs to see what the USA has turned into but even sadder to see so many people blindly complying with it. Thanks so much for sharing! A US passport is not recognized as a valid ID? I have never heard that. As far as a driver's license is concerned, you can legally drive on a foreign DL for up to 3 months cumulatively in a year. I gave up my WI DL and use my Mexican one. Never had a problem (knock on wood). Always have my passport on hand in the US.
Not saying your concerns aren't valid. The US is pretty effed up these days. The reverse culture shock is real. Like you am mucho much happier in Mexico.

In some cases your passport is not a valid ID like for example opening up a bank account. For whatever reason they want to see an ID that has an address attached to it. Again thats not really my concern, it is more the fact you always have to carry ID with you because that in itself of not having ID is a crime and I don't like to carry my passport with me everywhere I go. As for the drivers license I have seen many times where a Mexican Drivers license is not a valid license in the eyes of many cops. Again i myself dont believe in Drivers Licenses and I subscribe to the fact that under the constitution we are granted the right of free travel without harassment therefore I know and understand my rights but still, try arguing with a US Cop on a routine traffic stop over your rights to see how that goes. So I am not interested in being in a position where I have to present a cop a Mexican Drivers license and begin to argue with him whether its valid or not. I guess that is more of the point I am trying to make. The fact that so many rules and regulations and laws infringe on our freedoms, well the few freedoms we have left..... if we even have any left..... And the abuse of power most cops have plus the impunity to do whatever they want whenever they want are enough reasons alone to make me not want to come back to the USA anytime soon.

@@JoseArteagaTravels its not an ideal situation. Believe me i don't want to talk to a road pirate even if i have everything absolutely right. Low IQ and a painful level of ignorance seem to be criteria for becoming a cop. But there is a reciprocity treaty between the USA and Mexico. You would have to look up all the requirements like translation etc. but If the license is from a legitimate Mexican authority and it isn't expired then there is reciprocity. Some States have commercial dl reciprocity too. Cops have immunity so they know they can act like absolute fools and the taxpayers will foot the bill if there even is a consequence. Oh i know
You can use a passport in place of an ID anywhere in the United States that requires an ID. Other than driving.
That is not always true. I have actually gotten turned down in the past trying to open up a bank account for example with just a passport. Not just me but many others in the USA have also dealt with similar situations. I know each state is very different but not all states recognize the passport like they should and they want you to get a local ID to do certain things.

A passport just shows place of birth, ties to at least the US. Lots of people don't live in the place of birth on their passport. I'm one of them.
@@JoseArteagaTravels Hola Jose y Christian! Most banks in the US require you to have a US address to maintain a bank account with them. I use my cousins address as my US address and still do all of banking there instead of where I now live in Mexico. A lot of people who move out of the US do this and even the young lady at one of my banks told me to just use a friend or relatives address and just do all of my banking needs online. People should be aware that banks in Mexico aren't at all like the banks in the US. When you walk in you don't just walk up to a teller and get money or do any other type of business. When you go in you have to take a number and have seat with a bunch of others and it can sometimes take well over an hour just to see someone or to deposit or withdraw any money. With my Charles Schwab account I can easily transfer money in minutes between my accounts as needed on a monthly basis and they refund any ATM fees and don't charge you an exchange rate or transfer fees. You should keep at least two bank accounts in the US. It's a safer way to keep track of your money and if you lose or have one of your cards stolen you can still get cash. I recommend them for anyone planning to move to Mexico. They also have a number one rated customer service that you can call any time if needed. Buenas suerte!
