West Point is where I first spawned. Ton of zombies all combined downtown where literally all the useful things are. Especially in the PD (at least 20 zombies) and in the general hospital. (At least 10 zombies) all of them are very small for the towns apparent population.

Rosewood Fire Station probably makes one of the best long-term bases I've had in a Zomboid run. Big building, plenty of space, has a gym area, kitchen, second floor with plenty of storage, and it's pretty easy to make a Rooftop Garden for farming. Currently bunking there with my gf on a private server. Place is practically a fortress now, especially after we walled it in.

@@asdawasda You can either build stairs to access it from the outside or use a sledgehammer to access it from within. Punch a hole in the east wall on the second story near the staircase, but make sure to build a wooden floor tile immediately beyond the hole you make with the sledge, otherwise you'll fall.
If you're going the sledgehammer route, you'll want to add those wooden floor tiles in a strip between the building and the garage roof to ensure there are no points where you'll fall through.

Being a noob myself I can recommend Rosewood as a starting point. There is everything for a great start + you can build an easy "Base" there.
There is a gated community which can easily be barricaded.

Honestly, the best spawn point for me is the trailer park in Riverside. Sure, there will be more zombies but once you reached the storage facility and cleared it out then 90% percent you'll be safe throughout the game because not only it's a good base potential but also has the equipments & weapons you'll need (including tons of generators). Plus, it's near the gas station & the warehouse (which is also the best base & loot location).

Anyone who doesnt say Muldraugh is objectively wrong.
loot the warehouses, storage building, lots of spots for good vehicles.
Very easy to get a working car, with key, and have a gas can, weapons, books, videos, and supplies all on day 1 no trouble.
i run the town in a U shape. work down from rich neighbourhood to warhouses ,bar gas station, then move up towards the warehouse/bar on the opposite end of town. loot storage lockers in between.
once you get a car, the locations around like the farms and ponyrom-o area are accesible and easy starting safehouses.

I gotta say in Riverside for me, it’s a 50/50 between spawning in the trailer park or the wealthy gated neighborhood with the big two story houses. Park Rangers make good money apparently.
I’d say each town has geographical advantages too. West Point is close to Louisville, and both West Point and Riverside are next to the river. If the water cuts out early and you can’t set up rain collectors you’ve got an unlimited water source easily reachable from anywhere to drink from and fill up pots and pans to purify. Also fishing. Muldraugh is central making it easy to relocate anywhere, and Rosewood is near the prison and military base.

I like West Point. It's a tough spawn, but if you can get out of town with a vehicle and a few supplies, those estate houses by the river are one of the my favorite base locations. They're very isolated and safe. There's easy access to fishing, foraging, and fresh water for farming. It's a quick drive into town to get to the Giga mart as well, which is a great all purpose loot location not mentioned here ):
The houses also have fire places in them for the winter months, and an antique stove can be found in the fishing cabin by the pond.

I got to say West Point has good base. They are:
    1. South East Warehouse
It's really close with warehouse that store wood planks, sledgehammer if you lucky, and some metalwork materials, tools too. To defend it you can park cars on low fences or put the carton boxes in front of it, 2 stacks. The warehouse itself has lot of boxes too, if you managed to destroy it. The northern mini storage can be opened with luring zombies inside. Minus thing is you might have to make distraction before entering the warehouse.
    2. Food store near Gigamart. My personal favorite place. Once you have sledgehammer ofc, you can destroy the only stairs to 2nd floor. Large room you can adjust your needs. Also you can access the flat roof top for your farming. Still it's quite bin the town, so expect luring zombies out before storming the building.
    3. Western Store. This store is very close to gas station, mechanical store, preschool, and other promising loot area. Also destroy the stairs to make it zombies proof base. Less zombies, also the first floor provides food, tools, electrical gadget, clothing, seeds, etc. Minus you accessible rooftop.

    • @michaeld2622
      @michaeld2622 2 роки тому +2

Little bit edit, incase you don't have sledgehammer in base #2, you can build barricade on 2nd floor hall by create a fence and two boxes or just put table behind the fence. The zombies can't destroy nor vault your barricade. Just don't be surprised when suddenly there are many hungry neighbors suddenly standing idle staring the fences.. Btw the first floor is also a tool shop and very close with post office, you might get some books.

Don’t forget about the 3 secluded houses east of west point. Easy river access. 3 houses, secluded so not many zombies but still decently close to town. It’s just a pain to walk to if you’re on multiplayer so I’d recommend a car if you’re on MP but on SP you can just speed up time.

  • @Dark_Plum

Rosewood got nerfed as start location since those warehouses around it were changed to store only food.
But it's worth to mention that (in my guestimate) it has biggest percentage of rich houses (two stories with garage) that are good medium tier loot source.
And it's relatively easy to find a car with keys and gasoline.
Also small size makes it easier to memorize it.
For me it's best place for beginners.
Muldraugh has lot of high tier loot POI's, but some spawn points don't give easy access to medium tier loot POI's.

West Point also has that lovely Gigamart. It's not hard to grab some popsicle freezers from the gas stations and set yourself up to leisurely grind out trapping or fishing and farming.
I've always started there for years just because when I was new to the game I thought they might have built the real life West Point Academy there and it was full of goodies. That wasn't the case, but I learned my way around that area fairly well and built my first base in the wooded peninsula past the railroad tracks way back before we had cars. Maybe I start there for now sentimental reasons lol.

I setup a base there, not a single zombie goes there. I made a gravel road to the highway and then cleared the bridge from cars, easy access to westpoint and to the eastern parts of the map.only real complaint would be lack of good houses to loot... or rather that they do exist, but are guarded by hordes of zombies. It's ridiculous how it's so easy to loot a bookstore, police station ect., but looting houses is just pain.

I always spawn in Rosewood just to grab some weapon for start, a little bit of food and a car (since it has two gas stations nearby it is a good spot for finding a car), then i go to McCoy logging to find an axe and next place is either school in March Ridge (however it's too far away from everything else) or build a base on the bridge near west point. If i find car quickly in Rosewood i also look for generator there since it is quite easy to find it there.
P.s. Tip for UNskilled players who wants to secure school in March Ridge. Find a shotgun and lots of ammo (i generally play sandbox with rare loot but normal ammo loot), go around school with your car (it will work as temporary house) from the west side of town - build 2 walls connecting 2 fences, so new zombies would need to spend time destroying walls to get to you. Shoot tons of zombie (that lived with you all the time you built walls) through the metal fence. After clearing those zombies claim school (be wary front of the school won't be cleared out but it's much easier to come from that side. Yes i know its easier to just shoot a few times with shotgun in front of school and burn them all but it draws too many of them and i got bored to walk in circles for about 1-1.5 hours non stop.

Muldraugh is the best hands down. The farm to the west is the best base location only zombies you have to worry about are on the farm over thats close to the highway I go over there every 3-5 days and clear out the fields. Theres an offroad trail that makes accessing the city easy and there is a pond which makes for great fishing. There are tools in the shop and great farmland. Also in the house and in the shops are books your can read related to farming, cooking, foraging, & etc. within 7 months in game I managed to fully build a log wall around the entire farm making it a self sustaining fortress. Food, water, logs, medical supplies, ammunition, guns, protective gear out the wazoo. The backroads behind the farm makes it easy to get around and loot the more rural areas.

you missed the Prison in Rosewood, the Prison had even more potential with high tier loots than the Police station in Rosewood because it has 3 gun lockers and the overall bigger armory room with more stuffs in them compared to the Police Station
Everytime I play in Rosewood, I always rush the Prison because it makes life so much easier... I used to spawn in Riverside because it has very few zeds and good loots, but now my favourite is Rosewood bcs of how massive the gun loots it has

oh and if you go inside the Prison for quite a bit, there is a room with computer or cctv monitor stuff in it and it also has a gun locker so overall there is 4 gun lockers but the safest to loot is the 3 gun lockers on the armory, this makes Rosewood is even better in terms of improving your life due to having 2 good gun loot spots with a fairly okay amount of zeds
the only thing closest to Rosewood that can outrank its gun loots are the Army Surplus on the Dixie (which you should definitely go to if you spawn in Rosewood)

West Point has A LOT of guns. Every house with a US flag post out front will have a gun case. You can easily have 20-30 handguns and 10-15 rifles before even getting to the juicy gun spots or the gun store. (where to store those guns is a seperate issue). Westpoint's commercial area has almost every amenity imaginable, including a gas station and a mechanics shop. In theory, you would want to clear the commercial area and live there. At the default settings it's not really possible early game, but a custom game using an 8-hour timescale, turning respawn and migration off makes it doable- and I found it to be a fun challenge. Off the main street commercial area there are 2 more locations for books- Enigma Books store and the Post Office (absolutely packed with skill books and skill magazines). If you take the 2nd floor apartments next to the post office then practically every skill book and magazine is available. The amount of food and freezers is phenomenal- there is Gigamart, the Food Market, The Drake, Crystal Pie Place, and a restaurant all within ~ 2 block radius and options for 2nd floor housing at practically all of those - with even more food and freezers. I always like getting to those places early and stuffing food into freezers before it spoils. There are fence lines to the north, west, east, and south of the main street commercial zone. Town Hall has a fence line to the north, Police Station has a fence to the west, a construction zone fence is to the east, and there are residential neighborhood fences to the south. With 8 hour timescale you can just kite zombies to the nearest fence and do the 1-shot when they climb over. Fences did get fully saturated in my playthrough (easily over 1000 zombies killed in the 4 days). You can be setup in one of the 2nd floor apartments in the commercial zone within the first couple days if that's your prerogative.

Regarding the Tip of the Day: you can also use an axe to open those locked doors.
I've done it personally with a pick axe, and I believe I've seen it done on a video with a regular axe.
Just swing at it like you'd break down any other door.
And bonus Tip: with the sledgehammer, right-clicking on a door or wall and hitting "Destroy [whatever]" will not yield any materials, but won't decrease the condition of the sledgehammer (that may have been a tip on this channel, even).

That bar is fairly secluded, with a warehouse and gas station nearby, it always spawns a baseball bat, and often with a few cars in front. Close to the forested area for foraging and wood, and lots of open space for easy visibility and farm space. Only downside is a lack of a nearby water sources, making a water collector mandatory.

Me and my friends have mostly been starting in Riverside and living on the farm in between the factory and the city. We only ever used of the two houses on it. There was rarely zombies there until the server we were on reset and i think they turned on the urban concentration setting, shed by houses has gun spawn too. Only think that sucks is when your car's engine is low and don't want to risk it so running into town is annoying. I don't know how some people are running from city to city, that is annoying as hell. I personally don't like Riverside as much purely because the loot is just not that good to me. Almost every single time we went in to check for stuff everything was cleaned out. And with people in chat normally talking about them being in the other areas, mostly LV or Muld, I have a hard time believing there was a bunch of people in RS and we were just always getting there late. Specially when started checking 2 times a RL day every day at different times trying to catch the 72 hour loot respawn. I know there was 2-3 others with safe houses in town and unless they are just hording all the food every spawn which I doubt both were really nice guys and constantly helping others. RS just seemed like it lacked loot for more than 3 people total. Food was a constant issue for my group of 3. To the point that two of us including me have it in our heads to always take "light eater".

I also base up here but it takes work. What I love is you can always get a backpack at the store by the bar. Stop in get some bourbon firebomb your way where ever you need to go. The storage units always have more generators than you will need.

I guess the unlucky trait is working its magic on my run. I had to search all of the main part of Riverside to get one gas can. I initially planned from my spawn near the school, to build the big base on the warehouse a bit away from downtown, but the lack of cars with gas and carrying capacity for a generator, and finding only one gas can on the opposite side of town after power shut down led me toward settling in the gated community for winter and do trapping instead. No powered gas station for me yet.

I would disagree with Westpoint being the worst spawn. whilst the spawn locations are a bit bad there's decent basing locations, good looting areas, more guns and ammo then you would know what to do with, but most importantly is its location. Westpoint is almost central on the map and is only a few minutes drive away from Muldraugh, Riverside, and Louisville. Infact I would call it a high tier location just because of that.

Muldraugh has a bookstore and a VHS store both right in front of the police station. It's a slog to clear sometimes but absolutely worth it.

  • @friendofp.24

The school in Riverside has to be one of the strongest, most OP base spots in the entire game. It's so big that zombies on all sides won't be able to detect you if you're in certain areas, and sometimes they won't even pathfind to you because it's so big. There's literally no need to barricade and set up defenses unless you play with multiple helicopters on. The fences at the back make it perfect for farming.
The only thing that makes it bad is Riverside itself. It's a really boring town to survive in.

Not hard to wall off one of the house if it's not burned down thanks to it being mostly walled off with a nice pier for fishing. Although I double walled it to block any sight with wondering zombies, I literally have no zombies there. It is a pain in the ass if you don't have a car to walk to town for loot and then come back, tired from killing zombies.
