It is an LT5 developed by Lotus and Mercury Racing. DOHC V8s do sound better than a pushrod V8s but, the charger and challenger hellcats sound like the DOOM 2015 soundtrack.
These gear ratios are way better than the C5 Z06 IMO. After my C5 Z is paid off I will probably try to trade someone for a C4 ZR1. And I already have a 92 LT1 lol. The ZR1 responds better to mods though. A head/cam package makes them fly.
The LS6 cars’ (CTS-V included) super close ratios between 1st and 2nd gears always baffled me. I’m not an engineer so what do I know. Still an impressive drivetrain. The C4 Z ratios are good, but the rear end makes them super long. I go through the 1/4 trap at the top of 3rd.
@@kylec4zr1 agreed. But 2-3 and 3-4 are terrible. Nearly a 50mph difference between the top of 3-4. I thing a tr6060 with the ZR1 .81 and .67 overdrive gears and a 3.90 rear end is ideal.
1990 to 1994 had the DOHC V8 called the ZR-1 GM made the block and lotus made the heads but really not any faster than a TPI 350 after 94 GM went back OHV 5.7 385 hp and 405 ft lb torque
@@stevemino142 you say I don’t own any, yet my channel is full of video proof of my 1990 and 1993 ZR-1s in action. Not sure how you can say with a straight face that the 375hp LT5 isn’t really faster than a 250hp 350 TPI - that is simply not true. Off the line, the TPI has good torque, but any speeds 20mph or faster the TPI doesn’t stand any chance at competing. The DOHC LT5 was offered through 1995, not 1994. There wasn’t a 385hp OHV engine offered until 2001 in the Z06.
GM did NOT make the block or heads. Dennisons cast the blocks in the USA. Bermal in England cast the heads. GNK in England made the cranks and rods. Mercury Marine cast the cam covers and intake manifold. The engines were a collaboration design with Lotus and CPC division. The engines were machined and assembled by Mercury's MerCruiser division in Stillwater Oklahoma.
Ya know, not super quick in 2024 but Mercury did an amazing job. Too bad they didn't use Yamaha to build the engine, it would have been more legendary....

Still sounds very healthy and still very quick.
A prius would gap it

C4 ZR-1 0-60 in just over 4 seconds. No comparison lol

Love the sound of that LT-5. Mercury marine built a good motor
Yes and Lotus made a great design👍
Man that angry mechanical rasp it gets for the last 500 RPM before redline is awesome. Sounds so good!!
Very cool gauge cluster, futuristic yet nostalgic
80's gauges is where it's at. I really miss my 86
when I was 4 yrs in 98 and saw things like this I thought it looked super cool and from the future, and then boom internet boom here we are
still cool
Reminds me of cyberpunk. The dashboard looks almost identical.
The old girl pulls hard
C4 great generation corvette. Gonna buy me one of these ZR1''s Nice Shifting held the rpms up nicely...
Pulls really nice!
My dream right here. Glorious car
Great shifts 👍
Absolutely amazing
hard to believe a car from the year i was born can get up to 120 that fast.... very nice sounding video too
That’s actually pretty fast. Love them C4s
Cars were SO slow in those days. The zr1 is fast even today. I can’t imagine how monstrous it was back in the day.
Clown
I love my 90 ZR1. Sounds like an Italian exotic at full tilt
Beautiful

Man that LT5 just sounds different. Wow!
Nice short gear ratios for a V8, lovely
that sounds so good
I had a 1992 ZR-1 from 97-01. Now own a 2004 C5 Z06 Commemorative Edition.
Cool story
I LOVE IT!!!
Stupid fast 34 years ago crazyy
35 years old. GM did some of their best work in the 90s, though much of it doesnt get a lot of credit.
I'll catch some shit for this, but it does sound vaguely similar to the Northstar V8.
It does sound like a high revving Northstar.
I dont think a car could sound any better than that!
Let's not get overhyped
The Ferrari F458 Italia, S550 Mustang GT350, and C8 ZR1 sounds even better though.
Seems just as quick as a c5 z06
Cool it sounds just like my 2007 Audi S4 with the 4.2 V8 also 6 speed manual
I swear this is a gran turismo engine note
I’ve been 155 in mine
I am pleasantly surprised people aren't berating you for having an automatic car- usually everyone loses their shit
That’s because it’s not an automatic. All C4 ZR-1s are 6-speed manual.
This video showed 0-63mph in 5 secs, 0-101mph in 10 secs, 0-121mph in 14 secs.
Remember the digital Speedo always lags behind what's really happening. I have one of these #1781 and it goes as good as reported.
It sounds just like the one I had! In ... Need For Speed (1994) that was.
I played that game religiously in my youth
0-120 in 15 sec
still pulls hard

6 speed?
Yes
a newer 3.5 v6 accord could hang right with this.
If by “hang right with this” you mean “get walked by a 25 year older car”, then you are correct!
Apples to oranges comparison though.
