I would say the cgi is actually really great! In shadow and bone I mean. The Witcher didn’t have the best cgi though if that’s what you mean… even though their budget was a lot more

It’s perfectly fine to enjoy the villain in the story, even to consider him hot, while still standing for positive morals and values in real life. I know this wasn’t happening here, but I get so sick of fandom police who want to tell other fans that they must be horrible individuals if they like a villain or morally grey character in stories or movies.
I think that he's still ruthless but we didn't get to see it as much yet, bc he could tell from his own instinct and Inej's that Alina is a good person and isn't a fraud. so he didn't want to pursue it anyway and risk losing Inej. but he's still known as Dirtyhands and the Bastard of the Barrel in the show as well so I can't wait to see him outsmart a wealthy merch and gouge an eyeball or two 🔪 I agree that his interaction with Pekka Rollins did light his revenge fire though and get him on the track to taking him down 😈

Remember this is a prequel, the Kaz we saw in the show is not the same from the book, they did this to have some character development so it’s understandable

Eric Heisserer has stated that we will get to see book Kaz. But since this is a prequel they are slowly building up his character. There is still some way to go, before we get to the Kaz we see in the books, and Season 2 will probably explain how he gets to join the Dregs. Again according to Eric :)
Agreed. The writers for the show missed out on Kaz's signature sarcasm. Freddy's acting was spot on but the more I think about it, the more differences I see between Kaz's style in the books compared to the series. Maybe it could be because this takes place before six of crows and he's gradually growing into that persona from the books. But I do hope that we get to see Kaz's persona from the books more in season 2.

ok so, in the books, Mal and Alina had more bro and sis vibes as far as Mal was concerned. And Mal actually slept with Zoya in the beginning and did nothing to hide the fact. He had no romantic interest in Alina until the Darkling wanted her. But I had a feeling they would make Mal more likable in the show. Team Darkling for life!

In the books if you don't use/suppress your powers, it affects your health negatively. Alina always looked sickly and had trouble sleeping so, naturally, she looked happier and healthier after using her powers. As far as I can remember, he was really angry because he had done so much for her and she was having a great time in the palace. Also, he didn't really care for her like in the series, he just realized that he liked her after she left and sometimes it came across as being possessive. Personally, I didn't like the fact that the health aspect wasn't included in the show, because she didn't use her powers in the second book and it affected her again. And Mal's reaction to that gave off "don't worry, I still like you like that" vibes💀
I read the Grisha books recently and the producers of season 1 did a GREAT job, the scenes, the conversations, everything is sooo similar to the books. Honestly one of the best adaptations i've ever seen. Can't wait for season 2 😭💗

About Kaz, I felt the same but quickly realized, as you said, that the show does focus on the shadow and bone storyline, at least in s1, and they probably wants to keep it all well guarded for when they bring up the soc storyline. Also that might be personal but I did really like seeing Kaz completely out of his depths when it came to grisha powers etc. It’s not his world at all and I thought it was logical to see him struggle in it. I watched the show first and am now reading the book and i feel like now i am so glad that i did that because it has made reading the books so much better and more entertaining. I have read the whole shadow and bone trilogy and absolutely love nikolai and have gone from a darklina to malina throughout the three books and am now on the six of crows book page 322 and am following along with your video and it is so fun going through the emotions with you and i am trying to prepare for crooked kingdom and then i will read the king of scars duology for miss nina
Season Two was announced! It's official! I'm interested to see how they crossover "Six of Crows" and "Siege and Storm", since they did such a good job with this season. ☺️

The storyline and relationships between characters were so accuratelly adapted!! I would even go as far as to say that both groups coming together brought a whole new depht to the overall plot. Not to mention the irrevocable chemistry between the actors. The seem to have had so much fun playing their characters!! Ps. I'm in love with Ben Barnes as well 😍😍

I Agree 100%, but I think the reason the watered-down Kaz's character is that he would be more ruthless than the darkling and they didn't want to portray him as a villain. And obviously, they were setting up his relationship with the crows and they wanted him to be a leader but also as a friend not so intimidating

The story line of the crows is a prequal storyline of their books. But it looked like they made a new story and used flashbacks from the books. I looved it by the way.
If you're already torn between Mal and the Darkling, just wait until you meet Nikolai in season 2 😂 Btw you should read King of Scars, I think you'd really enjoy Zoya and Nikolai.
Team Darkling. I love and appreciate the way the show gave Mal a personality and a backstory. And they're working hard to build True Love Meant For Each Other stuff with Alina. But I cant deny the searing my soul chemistry with Alina and The Darkling. Mal cant relate.

I think for Kaz they wanted to rein it back a bit just for not making the show too bloody, and making people like his character. Of course they most would like him anyway, but for people who haven't read the books it would be harder to like him if he literally ripped a guy's eye out like he does in the book. Hopefully as they go forward there will be more of an opportunity for him to be more brutal, but overall I thought he was amazing!! And I CAN'T wait to see his backstory.

About Kaz, I felt the same but quickly realized, as you said, that the show does focus on the shadow and bone storyline, at least in s1, and they probably wants to keep it all well guarded for when they bring up the soc storyline. Also that might be personal but I did really like seeing Kaz completely out of his depths when it came to grisha powers etc. It’s not his world at all and I thought it was logical to see him struggle in it. But yeah they really teased us with that scene where he breaks that guy’s hand jschsnd i was like hello book!kaz enchanted to meet you

I watched the show first and am now reading the book and i feel like now i am so glad that i did that because it has made reading the books so much better and more entertaining.
I have read the whole shadow and bone trilogy and absolutely love nikolai and have gone from a darklina to malina throughout the three books and am now on the six of crows book page 322 and am following along with your video and it is so fun going through the emotions with you and i am trying to prepare for crooked kingdom and then i will read the king of scars duology for miss nina

The storyline and relationships between characters were so accuratelly adapted!! I would even go as far as to say that both groups coming together brought a whole new depht to the overall plot. Not to mention the irrevocable chemistry between the actors. The seem to have had so much fun playing their characters!! Ps. I'm in love with Ben Barnes as well 😍😍

I Agree 100%, but I think the reason the watered-down Kaz's character is that he would be more ruthless than the darkling and they didn't want to portray him as a villain. And obviously, they were setting up his relationship with the crows and they wanted him to be a leader but also as a friend not so intimidating

Team Darkling. I love and appreciate the way the show gave Mal a personality and a backstory. And they're working hard to build True Love Meant For Each Other stuff with Alina. But I cant deny the searing my soul chemistry with Alina and The Darkling. Mal cant relate.

I think for Kaz they wanted to rein it back a bit just for not making the show too bloody, and making people like his character. Of course they most would like him anyway, but for people who haven't read the books it would be harder to like him if he literally ripped a guy's eye out like he does in the book. Hopefully as they go forward there will be more of an opportunity for him to be more brutal, but overall I thought he was amazing!! And I CAN'T wait to see his backstory.
