Charon appears in an Animaniacs episode, ferrying the Warners to Purgatory, and even singing along with their song. Also in the game, King's Quest 6, where Prince Alexander goes to the Realm of the Dead and has to cross the River Styx to meet with its Lord, but can only board the boat if he pays him two old coins that are found in a tomb earlier. My favorite though, is in the game, Medievil, when he offers Sir Daniel a ride, in return for helping him gather some lost souls. "Thanks to Zarok's meddling, I'm up to my eye sockets in lost souls who've awoken from eternal sleep - business hasn't been this brisk since before they invented sanitation!"

Why are you making a listings of all the meetings of mortals with Chiron one at the end of the day? This has nothing to do with the more important parts of his life that happened before the Greek pantheon? Like this list is just a bunch of random stories with him in it none of the stories were the ones about him🫤

In modern Greek, “Charos”(or Charon) is one of the ancient Gods that we use more often in everyday life! For example: instead of “Death is knocking on your door”, we say “Charos is knocking on your door”. We almost NEVER mention Hades anymore 😅
Charos nowadays is the personification of death itself

    • @psynai1640
      @psynai1640 6 місяців тому

probably because Chiron inherited Hades his position after he stepped down also, the practice of his teachings will be the study of dark magic, and how to weave the corruption in or out it wouldn’t be because you want safe passage for your soul you go to Persephone Hermes or apolo for that But since most people disrespected them, most people got stuck with Chiron who just does his job he does not care where you wanna go what you wanna do who you forgot he just takes you to your destination so you can repent for your actions and if you don’t cooperate, he’ll just corrupt you and find some other way for you to make up for your transgressions

In old Finnish mythology and tradition, we had our own adapted version, the ferrymaiden Tuonentytti, who guarded that the dead did not leave Tuonela and the living did not get there. After reaching the black shore of the Tuonela River, the living and the dead were met by the ferrymaiden Tuonentytti, who interviewed the newcomer. And if this convinced the ferrymaiden that they were dead, then Tuonentytti let them cross for free, but if not, there was no ferry ride available. The dead were best identified by the condition they were in, for example the drowned person was wet, the burned person had burns, the decapitated person was headless and etc.

It would be cool if you did a video about Etruscan underworld mythology. There are similarities to the more well-known Greek mythology but some fascinating differences as well. The Etruscan Charon was a menacing blue giant guarding the underworld, wielding a hammer, with pointed ears and snakes around his arms.

I've mentioned this in the comments of a few prior videos, but the Greek god Hermapraditus is pretty obscure, at least in the modern era. It could be interesting when you get around to doing a video on him.
Now, there's a creature in Armenian that's death-adjacent. In Armenian mythology, there is a creature called the Aralez; in Armenian mythology, the Aralez is described as a dog-like creature that descends from the heavens to revive fallen heroes by licking their wounds. It could be interesting to see you do a video on the Aralez, and maybe your doggos will enjoy being part of video of one of the best doggos in world mythology.

All right I’ma just let you know this hermaphrodite is it just magni from Norse mythology The reason you don’t see him often is because he really shouldn’t even be alive. He kept trying to manipulate his Pham, his siblings and things at this time, and it ended up in almost screwing him, and the people he cared about most over in the end. Reason you don’t hear about him often is cause he stayed in the shadows back at that time. Anything he was up to his stuff that would’ve been on the hush-hush reasons for why he’s known as hermaphrodite us aside from being Hermes, his son, and having as much allure as Aphrodite, he basically was the first femboy And he spent most of his time following Anubis around so a lot of his time he wasn’t even in Greece or Egypt

I don’t really think he can because not gonna lie Egyptian mythology is only confusing because it was a trick. You do know he’s grunting because he doesn’t like being bothered only reason he interacts with Zagrus it’s because he’s family and because he reminds him of his mom nyx. Chiron’s flames should be lavender he’s got a dark magic and corrupted magic, and if that was an actual depiction of him, he wouldn’t be pushing around a boat. He probably look like a drider, or have a drider standing in for him until he sneaks up on Zagrius😂 lastly zues would have been uneasy about hemes and Chiron being in close proximity 😅

My favourite representation is in Greek folk literature and music centred around the Byzantine folk hero Digenis Akritas, where Charon is sort of the same figure as Thanatos. Digenis’ answer to “what do we say to the god of death?” was apparently just to wrestle him into submission.
I kind of see his role in mythology in reverse - people had a tradition of burying their dead with coins, and they needed a good reason/explanation why they did that aside from ‘just because, okay!’. Thus, a figure called Charon is invented, to impart on the people how important it was to continue this tradition. Just my thought, not one with any education behind it.

Chiron wasn’t a force you could explain because anyone back then would’ve known that you just don’t see him if you run into Chiron that is a terrifying scenario to think about that means the gods want you for something serious and you’ll never be seen again sing Chiron, or interacting with him, is probably the closest thing the Greeks have to interacting with Fae also, Chiron was the soul son of zues who didn’t have any other kids after him

Good episode. I always liked Greek mythology and I love how you present the histories of popular folklore. Something that always fascinated me is the concept of the Muses. Who were they? Where did they come from? What was the INSPIRATION (pun intended) for their creation? Why are there so many of them (9)? It would be cool to see you make a video talking about them, if that interests you..

I'm going to Greece! This was a shit day and I haven't watched you in awhile. I usually go back to the oldest I haven't watched and work my way to current but for whatever reason I chose this video today and heard about Greece! I was already thinking aboit going next September so it felt like it was meant to be. After the day I had, THANKYOU for giving me something to look forward to. I usually am the planner of the group so it'll be nice to just be along for the ride! Probably still going to do another week on my own. Can't wait!

If anyone cares Charon can be pronounced like Karen but the moon/ binary dawrf planet Charon is pronounced like Sharon because the dude that discovered it wanted to keep in line with Pluto (the Roman Hades) thing but his wife's name was Sharon so he named it after the ferryman but changed the pronunciation

Charon also appears in medieval Greek folklore tradition. Many times he defeats the heroes of fairy tales. The tradition with the obolo is still followed by some. As when we buried my great-grandfather he had coins in his eyes.
Archangel Michael is also a psychopomp

All I learned about Charon was the bad ass design and portrayal of him in "Clash of the Titans" (1981). Ray Harryhausen created stop motion creatures like no other! 🙂
