So since I made my last comment over a year ago, I bought a refurbished SE 2020 in early 2022 as a backup phone for my iPhone 13. I have an old iPhone 6 that I was using for backup but it just doesn't cut it anymore. For the $199 I had to spend, this is a really good phone. I especially like the smaller form factor for use at the gym or anytime I want a smaller phone. And I don't feel like I'm giving up much vs my 13. This phone is for people who don't need a premium phone.
This is one of the best iPhone values ever. I can think of so many people who will love this phone. Both my parents, my grandparents, my aunts and uncles don’t care at all about tech and would love this phone and it’s price.
I’ve still got the 8 not because of the size but I love Touch ID.. I don’t want to have to pick up my phone to unlock it every time. I’m a truck driver so being able to press a button and open my phone is a lot more convenient than having to pick it up. I’m disappointed in the new se. I want a new updated design with a home button. New internal hardware isn’t enough of a reason to get me to upgrade..
I came from a 6 and almost got the 12 mini but decided I’d wait till the mini design is better optimised in a generation or 2. So here I am watching this video on a new SE. I have to say I’m very happy and impressed with it!
With the SE and 6s rumored to get iOS 14 and the 8 being two whole years newer than them I could see the 8 getting a good while longer of support. Apple has been going above expectations with their support of older devices. It’s a major factor consumers look at when choosing device. I don’t see them changing this trend anytime soon.
Ive kept my 8 just because I haven't had the money for a new one. I'm going to say that's also the same for at least a good number of users. The new iPhones aren't even remotely affordable. That's where the SE comes in. It's not just a phone for "the old style." It's a phone people might actually afford.
Here’s a wrinkle that nobody is talking about. I was able to upgrade my wife and son to the iPhone 8 for FREE with AT&T! Not bad. I upgraded or rather switched from my Xs to the SE for $5 a month after getting it for $199 from Walmart/AT&T. The 8 is a good phone for free! The SE is better still even at $199 or $5 a month!!! These are both great value phones and worth getting. If you want the latest, the SE is definitely the way to go. If you need or want better camera options, get a small camera for those occasions when you know you’ll want to take even better photos than what the phone can deliver ( which are still very good). I bought the Canon PowerShot SX 620 HD. It even has WiFi for photo transfer. My point is this, the iPhone 8/SE cameras are very good in a very useful phone form. Why pay $600 to $1400 for a more expensive camera that is still limited compared to actual cameras. The 11Pro Max has a 12MP camera. The PowerShot is a 20.2MP camera! The Telephoto lens is 2x optical to a max of 6x with digital. The PowerShot is 25x optical telephoto!!!
7:38 saying iPhone 8 has only two more available updates left, it’s getting really to a no mans land: iPhone 6s will probably receive iOS 15, 7 2 or maybe even 3 more updates and the 8 for sure will receive from 4 to 5 easily. The gap between the 7 and the 8 is huge
This was the perfect phone for me. I’ve been an android person since 2012. Barely in 2020, I became a first time iPhone user. From experience, Androids lag quite a bit, so I wanted an iPhone. I was shopping between the XR and the 11. I can afford the iPhone 11 but I can definitely use that money more wisely since I’m just a young adult. The screen size of the SE was kind of worrying at first, but you get accustomed to the screen size. Coming from a Samsung Galaxy S7, I forgot how comfortable it was to have a smaller phone in your pocket. I keep my cellphones for a long time so I say it was a great investment to have the latest technology to last me well into the future.
Don't forget the SE has better connectivity. WiFi 6, Gigabit LTE with LAA and 2x2 MIMO, 5x Carrier Aggregation vs 3x, For T-Mobile it has Band 71 which is important now. For ATT it adds Band 14 for Firstnet.
SE has an Intel modem, whereas the 8 has a Qualcomm modem. If you don't know what that means, maybe look into it, if you care about dropped calls and that sort of thing.
Honestly the price of the se makes me wonder why iPhone 8 was priced so high at launch. The hardware is almost exactly the same, aside from the upgrade in specs and loss of 3D Touch on se.
Yes, it is! The SE is (for the moment) the fastest inexpensive iPhone ever! The size is what drove me to retire my Xs for the SE. you can actually comfortably put the SE in your jeans front pocket! Try that with the Xs or a Max phone! Especially with a case on it! The first function for any phone is not photography, watching movies or surfing the web or sending emails. What’s been forgotten the last few years is that the primary function of any phone Apple or Android is communications! The SE does this just as well as a $1400 11 Pro Max. I personally think the SE should signal the end of super sized expensive iPhones. It has at least for me. The Xs is the last premium iPhone I will ever buy. The SE is more than adequate for the needs that drive phone sales!
Bla bla bla ?? He's actually right bro .....why do you have to resort to labelling people when they were right when not suit to your preference ?? Being objective would you ??
@@hodigaming2933 Okay, we get it. You don't like the SE, move along then. This phone isn't for you, it's for specific users who use their phone averagely and not heavily.
Hal Howell then you could use a 200 dollar android phone and have optimal performance too for basic tasks.. or a second hand iPhone 8.. why spending 500 dollars for some old dated hardware? I don’t judge but I also don’t understand your point.. but if you’re happy with your purchase I’m glad for you:)
If the rumors about Iphone 12 are true you were better holding off. A 5.4in one is heavily rumored to be coming, and it wont have the bezels and will be even more powerful. If you could afford an Xs, then you'd be able to afford the new iPhone12. SE seems like it was intended for people with Iphone 7/6s or older and wanted to upgrade for an affordable price. But if you are happy with the small display, and like the price, then enjoy. Happy customers are good.
I've owned an SE1 for the last 4 years. Probably the best phone Apple ever made. I considered the SE2 and then examined a 2019 Galaxy s10e...slightly taller but way more powerful plus great battery life and now at a similar price point to the SE2. Unless you're locked into the Apple eco system, why not check it out...
Actually, I was debating about moving from the 6S to the SE 2020, but a good friend (co-worker) moved to the Note 10, and sold me his 8 Plus for $300, so I think that was a good price for a 8 plus.

Great video. I'm upgrading from the iPhone 4 (of course that has not been my main device for YEARS). Why leaving Android and returning to iOS? Well, to see how far iOS has come and it it will serve my needs well.
I just want an affordable compact phone ngl, the iphone 8/SE isnt really expensive, and its small enough to fit in my hand comfortably, im most likely gonna buy it
Thanks! Favorite feature of SE is NO NOTCH! STEVE JOBS WOULD HAVE NEVER APPROVED THE NOTCH, imo. Apple, WE NEED SE Plus size for us Notch haters!!! Thank you, and Cheers
This is relevant for people still using the old SE, the iphone 8 has a bigger screen in comparison and its cheaper than the new SE. I find it funny when people say the screen is too small when a lot of people are still happy with the old 4" screen.
iPhone 8 has one important trick up its sleeve over SE. That’s the REAL 3D Touch interaction versus haptic touch of SE. While some would say they both are essentially same experience, those who have used 3D touch regularly know they aren’t. This is one single feature current iPhone 8 users must give a serious consideration whether they want to lose that superior real 3D touch interactive experience. Rest of the comparison don’t matter much. Nor least the price since iPhone 8 users already HAVE it anyway - Duh!
Ha spot on. My 8 was on its last leg. I was so disappointed that I was no longer going to have my simple biometric scan and also that I would have to learn to use a new phone-being super busy with work and not a phone-tech type guy this perceived burden is why I waited so long in the first place. Then I walked into the store and saw the SE and I got those warm fuzzies in my tummy,ya know, like the kind ya get if you see a puppy for the first time and it’s just wagging it’s tail at you….anyway happy new SE owner here
It really doesn’t matter if it has the latest a bionic chipset from a thousand dollar smartphone when the battery isn’t equally powerful nor enough for the demand of the chipset.
Went from the a50 to the se. the a50 was like a car with good stuff but with a bad engine. The engine for the a50 was the cpu and that’s what made me change to the se. I love the se. I got it yesterday. It has way better app optimization than pretty much every android phone. I love android but if app developers weren’t gonna do anything for android then I’ll move to ios
Went from a 5s to the SE begrudgingly, so for me I didn’t want a larger size, and it of course blows the specs of the 5s away but for those sporting newer iphone’s I get why it’s not oohing and ahhing anyone. But so far as new phones, what else does it need to do to make it worth it? I don’t really think any phone apple or other offers enough to cough up 1,000 for it but some people think otherwise. I like it, it’s fast and outside of the case it’s not to much bigger but with the case I bought it’s a bit bulky so I may get a slim one down the road. Nice to know it will last me probably 5+ years as I can replace the battery if needed just don’t know about the water seal.
iPhone 8 is going to get updates for the next 2-3 maybe even 4 years lol, not only 1-2 years as Apple still supports iPhone 6s is rumored to get iOS 14 and 7 and 8 are still good. But I do agree with u that Apple will most likely support the se longer up to 5-7 years like u said. Nice video my bro I appreciate ur content tho :)
I’m still very happy with my 8+, but have long wondered where to go when it gets too slow in a few years. I really don’t like the iPhone X design. I’d love to think Apple keep this form and continue to update the internals every few years as their budget phone.
Better battery life by a good amount , better performance from an already very fast phone, better camera from a phone with a very good camera still. I would still wait for the iPhone 12, I would only upgrade if I had the iPhone 7 or earlier.
I “upgraded” to the SE 2 from an 8. I took it back cuz it wasn’t any faster and they removed 3D Touch. I also have a 6S, the SE really isn’t an upgrade in speed over that phone either. If you’ve got anything older than a 6S, it may be an upgrade. But 6S or newer, save your money and wait for the upcoming and future best selling iPhone- the 5.4” iPhone 12.
I'm rocking an iPhone 6 (non S) and as my eldest child will need their own phone shortly, thy will get the 6 and daddy is getting himself the SE :-) My work provides a plus sized iPhone for work so I'm happy to have the smaller phone for personal use. And seeing as it's my own money, I appreciate the lower price.
I'm glad ypu made this. I went from an iPhone 6 to an LG Stylo 5 and I hate the damn thing. Bloat ware is insane, I only have 14 apps and 11 photos/1 video and I'm at 98% storage. Plus the speed is absolutely dreadful. I was looking for an iPhone to switch back to but the SE is the only one I was willing to pay the price of. I'm glad you talked about the price point and the internal specs, plus I AM one of the people who like the home button and everything. The whole phone being screen is actually quite annoying to me.
Good review and thanks for it. I am iphone 6 still and loved it but its time now to change. Debating second hand good condition iphone 8 or this SE brand new. This has helped.
The Iphone 8 isnt even 3 years old yet. The iphone 6S is getting ios 14 because the ipad 2017 model used an a9 chip. Support for apple devices will be longer than 5 years now. The A11 in perspective was faster than the macbook’s being sold at that time. Your safe getting an iphone 8 in 2020 they are way less buggy.
The problem with SE2020 is that it doesn't give you an upgrade feeling. It gives you impression that you are getting iPhone 5c but in 2020. It feels like you will repeat that scenario and will get the same low longevity of a phone. As 5c was the shortest supported iphone and you felt like you have saved some $$$ you were faced to buy a nweer one much sooner compared to iPhone 6 or 5s. Me personally, still using 6s and will not trade my 3,5 headphone jack for anything. perhaps I am not using 100% of phone features, so does the other 99% of people. Let me know what you think?
Here are my opinions. I wouldn't say the SE2 is a significant upgrade over the 8. It is a welcomed upgrade. The main difference is the A13 processor in the SE2 vs the A11 in the 8. Other than that, the SE2 and 8 are practically identical. Your speed comparisons are quite helpful and since I just bought my 8 a month or 2 before the SE2 was announced & released, I am satisfied with my decision. I don't feel compelled to suddenly get rid of my 5 month old iPhone 8 and replace it with the SE2. Therefore, I think instead of the SE2 being targeted for current iPhone 8 owners, it more likely targets those iPhone 5s/6/6s/SE/7 owners who want (or need) to upgrade so they can run the latest iOS but also continue to use a mobile device that 1) can be controlled with one hand, 2) has a home button and 3) more importantly, offers TouchID.
Thanks for the comparison. Im slowly starting to get un-brainwashed from always buying the top tier main flagship phones and looking at refurbished and midrange, so this is a decent comparison.
Apple's best value iPhone they ever offered was the iPhone 3GS as it was being cleared out for the new iPhone 4. They sold it for $99 brand new on their website. I got one. It had only 8GB of storage but it was still a great way to get an iPhone experience.
I’m not sure if you mentioned something about the wide range and the portrait mode? Anyways, watching this video, it’s like looking at the same phone. Only the logo is in the middle. Anyway, i think it’s still a good upgrade for those who’s using the older iphones.
Complete agree. Accidentally killed my iPhone 7 trying to swap the battery and screen and I am on a college budget so this was a lifesaver and technically a upgrade as a bonus.
Yes 100% worth upgrading because of these things 1.A13 Bionic chip and third generation Neural Engine (this even makes it last longer) 4. 3GB of RAM 2.better cameras (kinda) 3.wifi 6 4.gigabit LTE And you may like new colors with black bezels and a brand new iphone,Well I guess it’s not possible to find any brand new iphone 8 Also i’m not sure but I think se does have 120Hz touch sample rate and 8 doesn’t
I have an iPhone 7 and this is the first phone I’m considering upgrading to specifically because of the home button, Touch ID, and it’s not huge!. I like the smaller size. I think a lot of people who just want a more simple regular phone have been waiting for this
I’m an iPhone 8 user but I have been having lots of battery problems and so making a switch would help me. I like the design of the 8 and the newer Xs and 11, but I just can’t afford it. I just wanted to know if it’s worth the switch?

There are deals to be found on the new SE all the time. Walmart had them for $150 for quite some time I think it’s $200 now, incredible.
Just bought 8 for my dad who is on 7 (and needs replacement). 8 still rock in 2022
Ive kept my 8 just because I haven't had the money for a new one.
Well i be damned, i was thinking of getting the iphone 8 🙈
do NOT make deals with AT&T! I had to learn that the hard way!
SE deal-breaker: No long press notifications on lock screen to expand them.
And no custom live wallpapers :(
I just found that out today.
I came to this video while considering upgrading to an iphone 8 from my original iphone se that was released years ago
My teenager prefers their 2015 iPhone 5s over their much newer 2019 Samsung A40. This iPhone SE 2020 will be a perfect affordable upgrade for them :)
Lol
Bla bla bla Typical apple lover excuses to save SE

This design so classy. These days users will never understand the feel of using a small Iphone which easily fits in one hand and the classic home button. 😍
Which one is better
Welp, I'll be upgrading to SE.
Great video. I'm upgrading from the iPhone 4 (of course that has not been my main device for YEARS). Why leaving Android and returning to iOS? Well, to see how far iOS has come and it it will serve my needs well.
Brw iphone 8plus or se2 which is better??
Iphone 8 plus or Iphone se for the same price, what would you get ?
I just want an affordable compact phone ngl, the iphone 8/SE isnt really expensive, and its small enough to fit in my hand comfortably, im most likely gonna buy it
I’d recommend
Good battery life?

Thank you, and Cheers
What about the speakers? Are they the same? Because iPhone 8 has better speakers than iPhone 7, for example.
I was so UPSET when they released this phone bcuz it’s literally the iPhone 8 which a faster chip and better camera(not really)
and that is precisely how they got an iPhone to retail for so cheap
Way faster for gaming and just everything. Battery lasts longer. And can record 4K video and camera is better.
bruh, the iphone SE has the same camera as the iphone 11, just without the additional ultra-wide lences and stuff
Bro which one is best 2021 ?
I'm staying on my 7 Plus until it's no longer supported.
This is relevant for people still using the old SE, the iphone 8 has a bigger screen in comparison and its cheaper than the new SE. I find it funny when people say the screen is too small when a lot of people are still happy with the old 4" screen.
Thank you for this review! You answered all of my questions.
Thoughts and opinions wanted: Worth losing proper 3d touch for the other upgrades the SE offers?
iPhone 8 has one important trick up its sleeve over SE.
Is the iPhone 8 battery good? How long does if last

I used to use a Poco F1, but now I'm using an SE. You know, the Poco F1, the 'flagship killer'.
WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE WALLPAPERS⁉️
i was gonna ask the same thing
Daniel Harman thanks dude
The wallpapers came from update on ios 14.2. I have it and i have those wallpapers too
Went from a 5s to the SE begrudgingly, so for me I didn’t want a larger size, and it of course blows the specs of the 5s away but for those sporting newer iphone’s I get why it’s not oohing and ahhing anyone.
Watched on my 2020SE. Pretty incredible phone especially out of the case. It is so small.
iPhone 8 is going to get updates for the next 2-3 maybe even 4 years lol, not only 1-2 years as Apple still supports iPhone 6s is rumored to get iOS 14 and 7 and 8 are still good. But I do agree with u that Apple will most likely support the se longer up to 5-7 years like u said. Nice video my bro I appreciate ur content tho :)

I’m surly gonna upgrade from iPhone 8 to SE2 I love the form factor and performance in such a small device 😍
The new se and the 8 plus costs the same in my country right now. Which one should I choose?
8 plus, more battery life, and a bigger screen
IonicHoundeth the battery life is suppose to be the same on both
I’m still very happy with my 8+, but have long wondered where to go when it gets too slow in a few years. I really don’t like the iPhone X design. I’d love to think Apple keep this form and continue to update the internals every few years as their budget phone.
The iPhone 2020 I recently got. It was $200 on straight talk . This is my first iPhone ever
Better battery life by a good amount , better performance from an already very fast phone, better camera from a phone with a very good camera still. I would still wait for the iPhone 12, I would only upgrade if I had the iPhone 7 or earlier.
When you only have 25 dollars lol

I “upgraded” to the SE 2 from an 8. I took it back cuz it wasn’t any faster and they removed 3D Touch. I also have a 6S, the SE really isn’t an upgrade in speed over that phone either. If you’ve got anything older than a 6S, it may be an upgrade. But 6S or newer, save your money and wait for the upcoming and future best selling iPhone- the 5.4” iPhone 12.
I'm rocking an iPhone 6 (non S) and as my eldest child will need their own phone shortly, thy will get the 6 and daddy is getting himself the SE :-)
My work provides a plus sized iPhone for work so I'm happy to have the smaller phone for personal use.
Omg I'm in the same situation right now, which one did you end up getting?
The Iphone 8 isnt even 3 years old yet. The iphone 6S is getting ios 14 because the ipad 2017 model used an a9 chip. Support for apple devices will be longer than 5 years now. The A11 in perspective was faster than the macbook’s being sold at that time. Your safe getting an iphone 8 in 2020 they are way less buggy.
Not mention, are there SE’s with 256 capacity?
yes
You mentioned that the iPhone SE supported faster charging but the iPhone 8 also supports 18W fast charge.
Yes thats true! I didn't mean that the iPhone 8 *didnt*, unfortunately it just came across that way.
I would say this is towards kids as well because us parents have better restrictions too while still having the upgraded internals as you said.
I would say that’s the 7th gen iPod touch. The SE is for people like me who want a faster phone, but doesn’t need all the top of the line features.
I have to buy an iphone for my mother. Which is the best option - iphone SE, Iphone 8/8plus or iphone 11?
8 plus
The display kills this phone for me. Apple needs to bring back Touch ID to a phone with a 1080p display.
The 7 plus and 8 plus have Touch ID and 1080p display
I have the 6 because my sister got a new iPhone and this is her old one. But I might go for the se. I love this design. I’m not changing it at alllll
It is so sad that the price in Asia is really high for the cheapest iPhone..it is like $700 in my country😢
i just bought a brand new iphone se yesterday and iim so happy with it, i had the 5s since 2015 lmao needed upgrade x) and SE is perfect
Just bought a iphone 8 for 100 bucks. Its gonna do fine for a while after i replace the battery. SE2 is gonna be its replacement.
I upgraded from my iPhone 6 to iPhone SE 2020, it feels like a whole different phone even tho it has the same design
I paid off my iPhone XR and got a iPhone se 2 immediately after. I like the home button and the size is good I like using my phone on one hand
Which one is which?
Apple's best value iPhone they ever offered was the iPhone 3GS as it was being cleared out for the new iPhone 4. They sold it for $99 brand new on their website. I got one. It had only 8GB of storage but it was still a great way to get an iPhone experience.
Went from a 5c to this phone recently and it is definitely a 10/10!
Dear lord, you still had a 5C 9 months ago? Props
Yes 100% worth upgrading because of these things
1.A13 Bionic chip and third generation Neural Engine (this even makes it last longer)
4. 3GB of RAM
2.better cameras (kinda)
3.wifi 6
4.gigabit LTE
And you may like new colors with black bezels and a brand new iphone,Well I guess it’s not possible to find any brand new iphone 8
Also i’m not sure but I think se does have 120Hz touch sample rate and 8 doesn’t
Good Information

Great review. Just wish the SE had a larger screen. Otherwise, sounds like a great phone.
I have an iPhone 7 and this is the first phone I’m considering upgrading to specifically because of the home button, Touch ID, and it’s not huge!. I like the smaller size. I think a lot of people who just want a more simple regular phone have been waiting for this
Im barely upgrading rn bro from the 7 lmao. Was just debating if I should get the 8 or SE
I’m an iPhone 8 user but I have been having lots of battery problems and so making a switch would help me. I like the design of the 8 and the newer Xs and 11, but I just can’t afford it. I just wanted to know if it’s worth the switch?
if they gave night mode since it’s got A13 and improved the battery life it could have been a steal
