I'm so pissed off and I'm not even from Poland. Jann and Gladiator had everything you need for Eurovision success. There's no way Blanka could actually win, like NO WAY. Something went really wrong. Poles, fight for you freedom of speech and democracy.
For real,like in any other national selection,Solo would be six feet deep, obliterated by the juries and immediately forgotten by the public🥲

Jann actually wrote this song all by himself! It's his satiric view on corrupted music industry, and how some people reject all moral and ethical principles in order to become famous & get the attention. Ironically, this song depicts exactly what happened with polish national final last sunday:)

This was his first live television performance and he did such an amazing show. It's such a shame he will not represent us in Eurovision. I think about it every day how much of a worldwide (or at least european) career he would have got if TVP production did not rig it. It's painful but it is how it is in this country.
I think he will still succeed in his career, the youth worldwide are coming to love more experimental music more and more everyday
Apparently the sound was better live. TVP has a history of having terrible sounds in this competition.

Im 44 and im obsessed with this performance. Im not polish and im so sad for him and for the polish people. This was a dictatorship like move.
I'm still not over that drama with Poland, I'm still so sad because Jann in my opinion could have been the best result for Poland this century. So much attitude, charisma, stage presence. He might have been nervous so that explains his vocals being shaky a bit but guys - it was hist first tv performance. And that last note, omg he NAILED it!
I can't stop watching that performance, it would have looked amazing in Liverpool. I've never been this gutted about anyone nonqualifying from national selection but this is the biggest robbery ever.

We should not forget that the audio transmitted by the broadcaster was badly mixed, on recordings from the audience smartphones everything do sound better!
I think that he was simply happy about the fans' support in the studio, and he could not suppress the smile and maybe this were these shaky moments :)
I'm not gonna lie - I prefer that performance than studio version. I JUST LOVE THIS LIVE PERFORMANCE because we get to see Jann's charisma and I absolutely enjoy watching him on stage. I'm still shocked because he would have been my winner this year which (to me) has never happened before. (placing Poland as a winner)
Same! We hope that justice will prevail and the Blanka will be disqualified due to an unfair victory, and Jann will go to Eurovision. He is very charismatic and made an amazing performance at the preselection!
Yeah and I fully agree with Deban that what Jann might have been missing vocally he fully compensates in like all the other areas of movement, passion, wardrobe etc.
@@Chanelistap Saame! Poland was my winner pre-selection (and I didn't think someone would top Vesna for me this season), now for me Poland is second to last. Sorry, not Poland, but TVP. I will continue to pretend that Poland is not participating this year until broadcaster fixes it's rigged result (which I highly doubt)

It is said that he got 18k votes out of 35k, so over 50% of all votes, while average for participant should be 10%, Blanka got 6k so around 15%.

The production had a sound issue, his microphone was louder than the music so it sounded like karaoke. Once you realise that this is the issue, you realise that he’s an amazing performer. Also, I saw recordings from the audience in the hall, and he sounded amazing in these recordings. The production probably lowered the music for the TV viewers, but that's not how it sounded in the hall, so there is a mismatch between his singing and the background music.
They always do that every year. Polish preselections haven't had good sound for like past 5 years.

everyone had 9 days to prepare performances so let's be real, if Jann won he would have gotten rid off his breathing problems. His song is harder to both sing and dance, Blanka's song isn't hard to sing at all. Also he sang in national opera when he was 12 so he definitely can sing.
The sound on TV was terrible in comparison to the videos shot in the studio. And I think it's worth mentioning, Blanka had been working on her dance for a month or even longer, she performed the song many times on TVP. Jann and his team did the staging in just a few days

Blanka literally had months to prepare for her performance being TVP's favorite after all,yet it still couldn't hold a candle to Jann's performance.

"I'm picking your new favourite. You buy it and I savour it." This song is about show business. Ironically, that's what happened during these Polish pre-selections. Respect to Jann for creating lyrics, music and the concept of the music video for this song

according to unofficial reports (TVP still has not published the detailed voting results or the results of the jury members), Jann won over 50% of all viewers' votes. Jann is a representative whom Poles have chosen and want. Blanka is a representative of the government television TVP, which is not the first time she manipulates the results. The jury's votes show that they either wanted Blanka to win or they didn't want Jann to win. Warner Music Poland could also be involved.
I hope Poland will be disqualified

More than that, many people additionally say that Blanka plagiarized the romanian song INNA - Up and has contacts with two jurors

This guy is a genius and he owned the stage. He is a victim of what he sings about. You need to put yourself in the dirt, and give the show to be loved. And yes, as a kid he was singing in the national opera.
Some say that his live performance was poor but I genuinely think that his vocals added to the eery vibe of the song... outstanding 🥳
Well, he only had 10 days to prepare it all, and he's from a small independent label so there is no big team or budget behind him.If he had won, he would have perfected the performance, cut back on some moves to improve sound, etc. Unfortunately, we will never see it.
Also, there were some big issues with the sound in the studio, for most of the participants - there was too much compression, separation between the vocals and backing tracks, too loud vocals as compared to the backing track, and the mics were picking up things they shouldn't be picking up, like the breathing sounds.
Honestly? My first reaction was skeptical too and that's despite all the research I did on Jann and his approach to his work before the show, but the more I watch it, the more I realize every single move, camera shot and the way every single line sounds was way more intentional that it felt at first.... also, the voice changes, woooow. The way the guy not only can sing, but also convey so much through manipulating his voice on such nuanced level, the way he builds the tension and manages to make it look completely effortless, like he just ran on the stage and went for it.. out of this world.

Honestly if this went to Eurovision I feel like Poland would have won 2023. This has so much charisma and gives me the same vibes Maneskin had and they won. Plus he's become so famous now and is selling out shows.
I don't think it's fair to compare Blanka and Jann vocals, because Jann's song was pretty hard to perform (all this falsetto for example), while Blanka's song was probably the easiest and most basic song in existence
I just want to highlight that audio quality is really poor in official performance, even video recorded with phone sounds better

The problem with vocals was, the Polish goverment television (which was the organizator) did Jann dirty and kind of tried to mess up his performance. There are videos from people who recorded his performance using their smartphones and they have BETTER QUALITY than the public television has.
BTW William, can you do magic and bring him to London Eurovision Party? Would love to see Jann performing Gladiator there. Thanks

Sorry, but it seems you haven't listen the lyrics close enough, and that makes quite a lot of your comment's irrelevant. E.g., his smiling on the stage is a part of an act corresponding with lyrics. Gladiator was a fighter but also a slave.
Maybe you should listen to the lyrics instead of joking about the donuts over and over...the song is about the corruption, the bad sides of the celebrity world, and basically answers the questions why he was blocked from winning the preselections
There were a lot of technical issues in tv sound and that's why most of the songs sounded so bad. In the videos from arena it sounds so much better

Thank you guys for this reaction, we appreciate it. However, you seem to not be aware of what really happened here. If Blanka won by fair and square selections there would be no such drama. We assume that it was rigged and we have many reasons to think that. Its not just about Jann. Its about TVP propaganda.
The song is a commentary on the dark side of showbusiness, including the importance of having connections. The full quote of the "savour it" part is "I'm picking your new favorite, you buy it and I savour it", which, in terms of how pulling the strings in this world works, feels very ironic and meta, given the whole scandals. Like... that's basically what TVP tried to do with all this heavy promotion for Blanka. Just to clear up :)

The thing that drives me nuts is that the video didn’t even do his vocals justice. There’s a video of the performance taken from someone’s phone and Jann’s vocals sound 2 times better on that video.
To me the funniest thing about it all is how Blanka was heavily promoted on the radio, on TV, with sponsored posts and billboards on subway stations, while Jann was a "nobody", a relatively beginning indie artist, whose only promotion was the word of mouth... in a 11 days between the artists announcement and the show... and yet he crushed the televoting. Right now from a "nobody" he turned to an artist with a number 1 viral song on Spotify, he sold out 5 shows in like 10 hours, his song is the one youtubers around the world prefer to react over the "winning one". Quality prevails, people!
He has like 6 songs in the Spotify Viral 50 list right now in Poland, Gladiator being on spot #1. He is also charting on the viral lists in several countries. i.e. Ukraine, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Sweden also invited him to the Melfest WKND pre-party, so... I guess he already won, even if he didn't.

This performance wasn't perfect, but none was on that night. Jann sweeped everybody from the stage singlehandedly. And given that he would have 2 months to prepare to ESC and that he is an educated musician - a countertenor - I can't see any issues in here. I am so so gutted about what TVP did to us and to Europe.

There really weren't that many problems with the vocals... I don't know why people fixate on them so much when most of this "instability" like the little laughs were clearly an artistic choice corresponding with the lyrics and for the most part included on the original track.
He literally laughs right before 'I know it's kinda funny' xd
Also, it is miles away from how he really laughs/smiles... he says himself that during the peformance he is "in-character"... and then some of the "shouty" verses are either a matter of conveying the emotion behind the lyrics like in a theatre performance or separating parts of the song to give it more texture (like between the chorus and the rap part and then between the rap part and the high note)
He didn't sing so terribly. Audio from live phone recordings show they clearly botched the TV audio for him specifically or that something went wrong with all of their microphones together. There's definitely potential for more drama with other national finals. If you look at the juries for each national final seem to have attacked the taste of the televoters this year.

His vocal is perfect, tv made some job to his audio to make him sound worse.
I would love Jann to go for Eurovision but mostly it is not about Jann nor Blanka. It is about transparency and justice of voting that TVP did not provide :(
The best way to see whether Jann struggles with vocals is to watch him on chillizet live session, singing his song Promise. I have to say, this is not my favourite performance of his. Tvp definitely messed up the sound for the national finals. Also he is performing more as a live concert than a tv performance, I am sure he would have eventually found a solution. Now I am just happy to go see him on his tour in Poland.

As we announced, on behalf of the community of fans and journalists dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest, we have sent an appeal to the President of Telewizja Polska S.A., Mr Mateusz Matyszkowicz, to take a stand on the doubts that have arisen over the course of the Polish preselection "Tu bije serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję" 2023.
We referred to specific points of the preselection's rules, SMS voting and the Eurovision Song Contest itself, as well as other formal and ethical issues related to the course and results of the contest. We make the contents of the appeal available to the public.
The meaning behind the lyrics of that song is what made me love the song straight away.

His vocals are light years better too!! From what I know this was his first preformance and maybe he ran out of breath(even so I think he was better than blanka, did you hear that high note "opera" thing??), but you have to check out other videos of him singing, he's so talanted. I stand by it
I bet that the Polish jury was just a bunch of conservative pensioners. The same thing was with Latvia for a long time, when the jury was comprised of opera singers, conductors and some other people in their 80s. What can you expect from such a jury? Just from seeing this they couldn't sleep for a week.
I can't agree that Jann and Blanka have the same vocal level. Maybe Jann wasn't perfect, but actually I think that at the end of the performance he showed great skills. He sounds like a talented artist who just needs some more practice and Blanka sounds like someone who can't sing at all and should start learning from the beginning.

Hey just wanna say something about how his vocal sounds. There's a shady thingy because there's a recording made during this performance with a phone camera. His vocals are wayyyymore on point. As if TV messed up sound during his performace. The actual vocal quality was better.

It was a mic issue. Almost every performer sounded worse in TV than in the hall. If anyone was moving, dancing more than leg to leg his breathe was too audible.

LOL he didn't even win because of the jury riggage. It's Chanelle all over again but the thing is that Solo is not SloMo. OMG, that girl (Blanka) cannot sing live. Someone auto tune her Eurovision performance ASAP. It was like a bad karaoke night.
The rumours say that Jann had around 18000 votes which is more than half of all of the votes. Blanka had around 6000

Actually TVP posted a version which they mixed wrongly the vocals. They increased his mic levels and lower the instrumentals. I have heard his voice from a phone recording and he was on point and he didn't miss one note. I really think they put his recording worse and they auto tuned Blanka's. I have seen straight after the show Blanka's performance out of tune and then 3 days later they replaced to a version with her voice fixed. This is true. Singer here.
Jann would have been TOP 10 at Eurovision! He would’ve improved vocally by May! And his staging would probably be even bigger and crazier!! I will never forgive TVP for taking this away from us! Its been on repeating for weeks now!
Have you heard any recordings with mobiles from the show? He doesn't need to improve his vocals - they are very good - TV must send with better sound.
I am almost 50 years old, I have missed some form of grit for a long time in the pop genre. Something you can really feel. (excluding all metal here, because they have really delivered) but this has industrial elements, it has rock elements and a bit of opera. Its sexy. As I understand it was his first time performing on TV, no wonder he was nervous. But this young man has a great future ahead of him. I am in awe of this young man. to write and produce this masterpiece on his own, that takes huge talent. Very much looking forward to what Jann does next! Huge kudos!

I am sad about this all the way from Australia. This would have gotten my 12 points- and this is one of my favourite years in a long time. This song was revolutionary, and I hope he gets so much success and attention from it because he deserves it. Poland deserved this.

Jann is such an amazing artist. His performance was .. hypnotic! Too sad five people (jury) stole us the opportunity to see this masterpiece on the Eurovision stage. What were they thinking? I don’t think the vocals were comparable with Blankas. He struggled a bit but his amazing vocals also shine through. It was only in parts it wasn’t great, plus he was having a full cardio work out on stage so now wonder. Also singing while laying down is difficult. If he had won I know he would have nailed it for the finale. No doubt.
This. On top of that, his song is extremely challenging vocally. Chest voice, falsetto, whistle voice, mixed voice with and without belting, rapping, all while moving through 3 octaves, crazy vocal dynamics and tonal switches, and not much time to catch a breath in between. And he dances like crazy on top of that.
Blanka's is a mid-tempo, not-much-text basic song within one octave range and one single technique (or rather "technique", cause I do not think she actually has any) - all in chest voice (with some random, likely uncontrolled and unintentional mixed voice points), terrible mannerisms (Beeeybe), terrible articulation ("spell it ouuu"), being out of breath from the very beginning of the song, missing verses (e.g. before the human centipede moment the backing vocals are singing, but she is not) and messing up lyrics (in the final chorus she sings "sholo, solo", cause she likely mixes it up with "show ya, show ya").
Not singing the first song and the other song perfectly is not the same thing. Jann can easily sing Blanka's song. Blanka will not be able to even begin to sing Jann's. He also has the skills, so all he needed was more rehearsing and adjusting, so that his dancing does not compromise his singing. She would have to learn how to sing from scratch in two months.

Yeah, we can also hear his laughter in the music video. And he is literally saying "I know it's kind of funny", c'mon.
I am obsessed with him ! I don't think he was struggling with vocal ,it was more breath control he needs to work on. But he defined has charisma,style and not only he is good singer but he also look like a model ! So unfair 🤣 I can see people compare him to maneskin but it was actually his very first song that was "'strong and hard". His other songs are lyrical,alternative (check his beautiful ballad one missed call).

I feel sorry for the Polish fans, this is so much better than Blanka and you deserved better 😭
