  • Today I'm showing off my minor league baseball card collection from the 1980's. Covering much of the junk wax era, these are some of my absolute favorite cards in my personal collection. Stars include Ken Griffey Jr., Mark McGwire, Cal Ripken Jr., Roger Clemens, Tony Gwynn, Don Mattingly and many more. Overall there is a very low population report on these cards compared to their standard rookie cards. IMO very collectible, undervalued, and great investment cards from the junk wax era!

Awesome video. I went right from ebay to UA-cam search and found your channel. These are all players I love and collect. Great job.

So jealous of the Auburn Thomas and the Venezuela Maddux! My focus is the "first card" of a player. Lots of TCMA and Procards for me. 1986 Procards has the first cards of many HOF'ers like Maddux, Glavine, Big Unit, Smoltz and Edgar Martinez and still maybe a few more to come like the Elmira Schilling (pop has stayed really low so maybe a bit rarer) and the Wausau Visquel. Tons of first cards of fan favorites in the 1986 Procards team sets too! Thank you for sharing!

Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching! I had an Elmira Schilling BGS 9 but sold it a while back for a price I couldn't turn down. I'll pick up another copy eventually. Also have the Vizquel Procards in PSA 10 but I have a separate Vizquel PC so I didn't include it here. Love Procards & TCMA!

Great video and collection. I just love this era for minor league cards of MLB. I agree with your assessment of the 1st minor league card issues of popular/HOF MLB players being undervalued. I just love the simplicity of the cards themselves.. and the card stock(esp. for the 1983 TCMA) is unique. I had collected some minor league cards of MLB players(i.e. Mookie Wilson) and afterward realized that some have several minor league card issues(i.e. 1979 & 1980 for Mookie). So I would try to focus on the earliest available. Also worth noting that finding graded copies of 1st minor league card issues of MLB players from this era on eBay is a true challenge. fyi, the Roger Clemens Fleer issued card you mentioned in this video is from 1984 Fleer Update and not 1983.., but is the same year as the 1984 TCMA card you have. The 1987 Crown Oil Glavine always has centering issues; so a PSA 9 grade is SOLID. Lastly, I'm a bit surprised you have BCCG vs. SGC in this collection.. To me the big 3 graders in the industry are the PSA, BGS, & SGC and I typically steer clear from BCCG just because their grading standard are just so low comparatively. Again, great video.. I was hoping someone would make one based on this topic. Thank you.

Thank you for watching and glad you liked the video. You are spot on about the Clemens, not sure what I was thinking referring to a 1983 RC of his.. I must have been tired when I was making this video. (I own the 1984 fleer update Clemens) We definitely agree about the awesomeness of minor league cards from this era. The simplicity, design and scarcity make them an excellent option for investing/collecting. The BCCG cards I've had in my collection for over a decade. I bought them back when BCCG was a little more reputable than they are today. Thanks again for your comment and happy collecting!

Agree that the 1987 Crown Glavine in PSA 9 is a super tough card! I've only been able to score PSA 8's as thge highest when subbing those and there are no 10's. As you said centering was horrible. Try and find Glavine's 1987 Bob's Camera Richmond Braves card. (Only 5 ever graded) or the 1988 Jones Photo Tuscon Toros Craig Biggio (only 3 ever graded). I feel on some of these TCMA, ProCards and other minor league issues from the 1970's to mid 80's, that due to their low supply and rareity that they come up for sale, actually drives the low demand for them. However, only a little demand would prop up the values. Same goes for junior league hockey cards from the same timeframe.
