I normally would have just taken Metro to Metro Center to transfer to the Red Line train to Union Station. Will have to try that VRE option if scheduling works next time I’m at DCA. Definitely keep the car detail in your videos. Well done!
Agreed - also, since VRE is only a Monday - Friday service railway, a hop on Yellow Metro line from Reagan Airport to Gallery Place Chinatown and then transfer to the Red line to Union Station would work as well.
yes, more videos please! I love train travel
Great video !! I enjoy the descriptions and train identification sub-titles !!
Thank you for an excellent review, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was pleased to see you used VRE from Crystal City to Union station also ! I agree it would be good to use Amfleet II cars on the long through journey to St.Albans VT once through service is resumed. Many thanks.
Another great video, great job and info ....keep it up, and thanks again!
Back in the 1980s, I drove a commuter bus from Fredericksburg to DC and back during my last 2 years before retiring from the Coast Guard. It was much more fun than carpooling and I got paid for driving to work. VRE didn't exist back then and commuter buses did very well on that route - mine was always full. I'm sure those days are long gone, now. It would be a real treat to be able to take the train to DC and back each day.
Thanks for sharing! :) Very informative, loved it!
Very good analysis
Actually the Vermonter finally came back to Vermont
10:15 I passed a kinda long (by NEC standards) freight train by Perryville while riding the Aclea a few months ago. It was during the morning rush hour on a weekday.
The Vermonter to Vermont is back this past week. Please update video
Very enjoyable video. I was hoping you would occasionally show the train speed in the faster sections.
Nice video. I think the Vermonter is back in its entirety.
Thank the lord they have new seats. It was my least favorite train on the NE corridor. NO QUIET CAR! and is usually packed.
Awesome 👍🏼
1:08 Don't forget Music City Star in Nashville!
Miss the bathroom and train tour : ((
Vermonter is in full op up to Vermont
I'm not sure whether Amfleet 1's or 2's are best for this route, however my Vermonter train a week ago on a Sunday was pretty much sold out by the time we reached NY, so if they switch to Amfleet 2's they'd need to add cars to make up the difference.
Also, my train stopped in Newark DE, I guess it's a sunday schedule varient.
Amfleet 2 cars are built for long distance routes
One thing that Amtrak yet to do is to turn a profit. lol. The Chase MD derailment killed freight traffic on the NEC.
Why get rid of something that still works
amtrak train 79 and 80 could use the amfleet 2 cars too
They should just rename it to the northeast regional until Vermont service comes back
Good news it’s back
Luckily, the Vermonter with thru service to Vermont is returning very soon.
I believe return to VT is scheduled for July 19th.
yep, today is the first day of vermonter service to vermont
Let's German build ICE train over north corridor for Amtrak.
The Amfleets can go another 40. You can't kill a Budd car. Amtrak just wants new toys. Refurbish not replace!
The ones on the Empire Line WERE refurbished several years ago. Don't know about the rest of the fleet. Highly doubt that the cars AMTRAK is now ordering and using will have anywhere near the life span of ANY Budd-built car. Unfortunately, Budd and Pullman Standard and the other US car manufacturers went under decades ago. All we're left with now are the "foreign interlopers".
Bruh they are falling apart
Too bad you didn’t fly into Baltimore. You could have gotten the train right from there.
Interesting vid, but sorry - your voice is far too monotone.
