I have always wrestled with the thought of purchasing this pedal because I could never find a demo that made it sound so musical. Thank you for being the first to do that. You absolutely (bit) crushed it!
ThePedalZone of course man! You’re killing it! Also, around the 3:00 minute mark during serene stutters, you do a lick high on the neck and there’s a longer pause between the attack and the stutter than the same lick right after it. Is that just solely based on how hard or soft you hit the strings?
@@Alex-ci1nt - A lot of things affect the stutter. Attack, Timing, Phrasing etc... I think it's mainly timing that makes the licks sound different here.

You’re killing my bank account, Stefan! You make such inspiring demos with so many pedals I didn’t think I need until I see what all you can do with them. Now I’m convinced I need the Ottobit for drum tracks alone! 😍
Finally someone got it right how to demo it. Everybody were just turning knobs all the way to get multiple variations of horrible sounds. Own one and love it.
Thanks, man! Kind of you. Like any other Meris pedal, this is an instrument in its own right. So it requires the same patience and dedication to learning the full scope of this pedal as it would learning a new instrument. I enjoy the process though, and spend A LOT of time with the pedals before I hit record. Got to try this a couple weeks ago at that Brooklyn synth expo. Ottobit really surprised me with how sick it sounded with a Roland JP-08. On the glitch setting, even something like a pad synth would have this really unique texture and sense of movement.
This is such a fun pedal. It sounds amazing running the enzo into this guy. Basically a synth sequencer at that point. As always you showed ways that I never thought about. Great stuff as always

@@thepedalzone The learning curve can be frightening, but the satisfaction you get when you're discovering a great sound is priceless. When I'm listening to your demos, I feel like it would be easy to obtain these soundscapes. But it's not. And how rewarding when you manage to do so!
I don’t think there is a pedal you’ve demo’d i haven’t wanted. When you dropped the octave around 3:45 I almost fell out my seat. Now I know i need a sequencer!

Thank you very much! Placement all depends on what you want to do with it, but for most cases it would make sense to have it placed as one of the first pedals in your chain, at least if you intend to use the sequencer and the stutter effect, as they are dependent on a clean and strong input. But you can also experiment with just using it as a filter and bitcrusher, and place it at the end of your chain in order to sculpt and manipulate the sound of your entire board.

Hey, thanks for this awesome demo. I just got this pedal and I was wondering do you set the pitch sequences by running a loop through the pedal and tuning them in real-time? Having Ottobit jr and Enzo I can say that remembering the 2nd functions and replicating a cool setting are big PITA with Meris pedals. But they sound just amazing. I wish they had a better User Interface and I would not need another MIDI box to store presets...
The struggle is real on the secondary functions front. I've slagged them about not at least labeling the secondary functions on the face of the pedal so often Meris likely hate me. I own 4 Meris units. My most powerful, often exciting but really frustrating effects pedals.
@@enkiea8322 labeling the secondary functions would be great, but I think Meris doesn't want to destroy the look of their pedals :) There's someone on a facebook group who's done great decals to put on his pedals. Don't know if he sells them.
@@gurrgurr1023 I'm not into all that extra. For me it should just show up and make sense. They label everything in the manual but they dont *explain* shite. Does anyone find that the stutters or glitching seem a tad too loud (example at 2:20 ) and, as a result, almost harder to recorder to record in context with other tracks? I wish this had a way to dial down the volume of the effect just a tad (maybe 10%) Not as noticeable on drums
Hi Stefan, I just wonder if you ever had or played with the alexander pedal colour theory, considering that is the only other sequencer pedal i was trying to find if anyone tested the differences between them. Thanks and keep on doing these great videos !!!
@@8Junio76 I'm probably going to keep it. There's nothing else that does everything it does. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Maybe a MOOD..Maybe the Particle.
Happy you liked the demo. No, there's not dry blend control on the Ottobit. You can combine it with a parallel loop pedal like the KMA Tyler or Boss Line Selector to get a dry signal in there though, if you want.
Happy you liked the video. Think any expression pedal with a 25k pot or more will work. So something like the Moog EP-3, Boss EV-30 or Mission Engineering EP-1 or EP-25 Pro should do the job just fine.
Stefan this is sick man! You were a crazy DJ, blew my mind lol. I was wondering, do you have any input on the Ottobit compared to the Thermae from Chase Bliss?
Thanks! Happy you enjoyed the demo. Ottobit is a consistent digital sequence, triggered by your input. You get steady, even and predictable results. Thermae is analog delay that quickly changes delay time to create its sequences. It's a constantly moving sequence that isn't reset by your playing, hence you jump in and out of different places in the sequence, giving you fun but unpredictable results. Thermae is a collaborator, where you react to what it feeds back to you. Ottobit is a creator, where it feeds back exactly what you've told it to every single time.
Great demo, just got a used one. I’ve read a few reviews that he metal chassis and encoders are on the cheaper flimsy side, can you comment on this? ✌️
Also I wonder if Meris used a similar dsp chip to Rolands Aira scooper, It sounds similar. The Scooper was great because it could also reverse bits of the audio signal, can the Ottobit do that by chance. 😅
Hey Stefan, thank you so much for all your videos !!! PLEASE HELP ME :) How do you manage to keep the sequencer going infinite ? Like you do at 7min07sec ? Mine automatically fade out with the sound of my guitar....
Thanks, man!! That's really kind of you. I simply just set the Sequencer control to infinite. There's an infinite symbol at the maximum position of the pot :) If your signal still decays, then it could potentially be due to you having the Sample Rate set too low. A low sample rate will eventually kill the signal, because it degrades the signal as it's designed to do. But yeah, slam that Sequence control to infinite, and you should be good to go 😊
@@thepedalzone Thank you so much for your answer ! My Sequencer knob is cranked up to infinite, but the level of the overall output decays as the level of my guitar decays... Yours simply just continue forever, and it's so good :) I can't manage to do the same !
Not for me. But I can’t speak for everyone and their potential needs. But you can easily get access to presets if you get a preset switch or a MIDI controller
Anyone else get a lot of annoying clicks, pops and digital artifacts when muting sequencer steps and using it as a trem? For me, it would've been my #1 and only trem were it not for that issue. Don't get that with some other sequencers and digital trems I own and have tried.
@@thepedalzone lol. did yours come with scratches though? both my globe and traditional shape one have a lot of little scratches on them. i had a third one that was more of a flask shape or whatever and it was flawless. unfortunately it looked stupid upside down and i had nowhere to hang it safely otherwise. returned it for "fireblaze" halloween lighting instead. :p

Nice mention of Fennesz man, his new album "agora" is incredible..
Dude! Hadn't even listened to his latest album before you mentioned it here. My god is it good! Pure ambient bliss
@@thepedalzone he played here in Toronto and I missed it, I did see Tim Hecker though, check him out if you haven't yet ☺️
hey man, how could you afford all those wicked pedals? :D numourous cool demos out there
Does anyone find that the stutters or glitching seem a tad too loud (example at 2:20 ) and, as a result, almost harder to recorder to record in context with other tracks? I wish this had a way to dial down the volume of the effect just a tad (maybe 10%) Not as noticeable on drums
bought this pedal just to use on the elektron cycles drum machine cause it's a stereo instrument. freaking cool
Nice! Bitcrushing and drum machines are a match made in heaven
@@thepedalzone esp with that stutter and sequencer, sequence stuttering a drum sequencer is the dreamiest sequence i've ever dreamed of.
Ouch that agave plant must add quite a bit of sharp tones to the mix lol.
Definitely does!
What app are you using around 4:47? Amazing demo. Thanks!
That's Garageband's in-built beat sequencer 😊 Happy you liked the demo. Means a lot! 🙏
Hi Stefan, I just wonder if you ever had or played with the alexander pedal colour theory, considering that is the only other sequencer pedal i was trying to find if anyone tested the differences between them. Thanks and keep on doing these great videos !!!
Yes, I've tried the Colour Theory. Greatly prefer the Ottobit when it comes to sequencing.
I need like $1500 and 2 weeks. Step 1 : Buy all the Meris Pedals Step 2: Spend 2 weeks figuring them out!
Sounds like a fun couple of weeks you got ahead there ☺
>$2000 & 2 months if you didn't work & sleep
I think you could spend years with Meris pedals and still discover new things
I'm looking for something to replace the Boss SY1. These things are amazing! As usual, your genius is shining through. Thanks for the inspiration!
Why replacing the SY-1?
@@8Junio76 I'm probably going to keep it. There's nothing else that does everything it does. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Maybe a MOOD..Maybe the Particle.
What's the green drum machine brand
The drum machine app is just the built-in beat sequencer in Garageband for iOS
Hello. Great demo...thanks!
Is there a blend/mix to bring the dry signal in/out?
Happy you liked the demo. No, there's not dry blend control on the Ottobit. You can combine it with a parallel loop pedal like the KMA Tyler or Boss Line Selector to get a dry signal in there though, if you want.
Thanks for this video!! Can you recommend an expression pedal for this or will any brand work?
Happy you liked the video. Think any expression pedal with a 25k pot or more will work. So something like the Moog EP-3, Boss EV-30 or Mission Engineering EP-1 or EP-25 Pro should do the job just fine.
ThePedalZone thanks!
I wish there was a cheaper version with just the bit crusher. never heard an 8bit sound that convincing out of a pedal.
It does sound pretty unreal 👾❤️
Great demo, just got a used one. I’ve read a few reviews that he metal chassis and encoders are on the cheaper flimsy side, can you comment on this? ✌️
Also I wonder if Meris used a similar dsp chip to Rolands Aira scooper, It sounds similar. The Scooper was great because it could also reverse bits of the audio signal, can the Ottobit do that by chance. 😅
Happy you enjoyed the demo. Means a lot. There's nothing on this pedal that feels cheap to me. It's a super solid and well-built device.
@@thepedalzone Thanks for the, mine will arrive on Monday!
Hey Stefan, thank you so much for all your videos !!!
PLEASE HELP ME :)
How do you manage to keep the sequencer going infinite ?
Hi Stefan,
doesn't the absence of pedal-accessible presets kinda makes it impossible to use "live", fro example in a jam with other people?
Not for me. But I can’t speak for everyone and their potential needs. But you can easily get access to presets if you get a preset switch or a MIDI controller
What app you're using in the cellphone for the drum sequencer?
I'm using Garageband :)
Did you make any of these into full tracks?
I have not
the filter is as good as on enzo?
Yes 👍
holy fawn
Indeed
J mascis jazzmaster??
Inders it is 😊
Which app is that?
It's the beat sequencer in Garageband for iOS
weeee!
Weeeeee! 🙌
Anyone else get a lot of annoying clicks, pops and digital artifacts when muting sequencer steps and using it as a trem? For me, it would've been my #1 and only trem were it not for that issue.
Don't get that with some other sequencers and digital trems I own and have tried.
Oh hey Buddha Machine
Oh hai!
My Casio SA-1 brought me here.
Does merris make anything that sounds bad
Not to me. I love everything they make. Their pedals always push my creativity places I never thought it could go, and for that I'm forever grateful.
I have that lightbulb :p
Nice! We're lightbulb buddies now!
you started conducting yourself when you were using the expression pedal!
It was difficult not to ☺
