I love tamarack here in oregon reservation of warm springs oregon reservation between Portland and bend oregon, terrabonne,Redmond oregon. Burns hot in my wood stove, good dry pune sometimes, etc...💪🤳🤛😊
Nice Humbolt face cut. Looks like you put a little side twist in your axe when your splittin some of your rounds before your rounds go in truck. Nothin like a good wood bent handle axe.

You know I love my Tamarack :) that is a big one , 16" is a big one around here most seam to die at 8-10", yes I know my tamarack but like you looked at the wrong one when I walked in & I cut a green lol, If you miss it when your cutting just pick up a block & you know :) I always look for that crack, a lot of people just look for dead limbs & don't realize Tamarack shed their needles in winter, they just think evergreen should be green year round.

I can’t wait to get out cutting. Starting to see some free wood on market place. That were I get most my wood. East to get and save it from going to the dump. Nice to see the daughter out helping. How’s she doing with that smaller saw? Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Definitely under estimated then… it splits easy and burns great and makes good logs for log homes because they grow so straight. Hope all is well my friend
Its great great firewood, I've burnt it for years in Eastern Canada. We tend to target hardwoods like Maple and Yellow birch but our property is still regrowing these species. The Tamarack/Larch burns just as hot but needs to be split while green if you aren't using a powerful splitter. It twists like a cork screw over here at least.
Watched your video during my lunch break, I sure appreciate you talking about our channel. Very kind words, Thank you. I don't get to cut to many Tamaracks but when I do I get really exited about it. Mostly fir though, them Tamaracks must just be more resistant to bugs and disease

It is western larch people call it tamarack in the northwest. When people came from back east and settled the northwest they started calling it tamarack not knowing it was western larch because it looked like Easter tamarack. So people been calling it tamarack for over hundred years I call it tamarack too. But it's not a tamarack real name is western larch.

USING A CHAINSAW WITH ONE HAND IS STUPID DANGEROUS. SOMEONE I KNOW LOST HIS LEFT ARM AT THE SHOLDER EXACTLY THAT WAY.
Do you ever run across bear when out cutting or do they avoid the saw noise? I’m trying to turn my spring cutting into bear scouting as well.
Yes I have and had them walk within 10 yards with the saw running

David you still need to make a canthook style log lifter to help keep up off the ground when your blocking.

It’s a no name head that I cut about an inch off the cutting edge and reprofiled it

Over here in N.H tamarack is refered to as"hackmatack" not very popular i might add

We have Tamarack in Minnesota but I never seen one that big, on the farm we cut them for fence posts.
