Naruto was left speechless when Neji died, he was lost, unable to answer Obito, his will was cracked, you could clearly see in his desperate eyes that he was on the edge of snapping. Obito got to him, at that moment Naruto could've agreed with him. But it didn't worked out - Hinata was there to bring Naruto back to reality, to remind him what they're fighting for. Naruto had Hinata to help him go through hell, while Obito had no one. And when Obito saw that Naruto hasn't given up even after that, he got really angry, because it meant that Obito chose the wrong path.

Damn wtf I felt this so much more on this rewatch. I feel like this death was more to represent how much Neji viewed Naruto's worth to his sister. Originally I just thought it was to show that the 10 tails was dangerous and not just throw away characters would die but now I feel differently. Additionally to back up the fact that even in complete desperation, feeling a massive personal loss, Naruto didn't give up or lose himself. Compared to Obito who did.
Naruto almost gave up, and if Hinata was not their, alliance army was fucked. Killing Neji was an accidental masterstroke and Obito tried to take advantage of it. Even Madara acknowledged Obito for using that situation to their advantage. Had Hinanta not stayed strong and rile Naruto up, the whole war was doomed. JUST BECAUSE OF ONE SINGLE DEATH. Damn wtf I felt this so much more on this rewatch. I feel like this death was more to represent how much Neji viewed Naruto's worth to his sister. Originally I just thought it was to show that the 10 tails was dangerous and not just throw away characters would die but now I feel differently. Additionally to back up the fact that even in complete desperation, feeling a massive personal loss, Naruto didn't give up or lose himself. Compared to Obito who did.

i think it’s pretty heavily implied that the general inability to protect his allies is what almost broke naruto, not just neji’s death alone, obito was getting genuinely frustrated at naruto’s ideology by this point which is why he goes out of his way to mock naruto about all the people he couldn’t protect, remember naruto was actively trying to protect the entire alliance at this point, he doesn’t value one death over the rest of them, even if neji was his friend
@@doodoo5594 I somewhat agree with you. It was many people's death that broke him. He was fighting the war without looking at the death toll, and Neji's death halted the momentum. Obito took advantage of that to mock him and thats when he realised the numbers of death-count. I still hold that Neji Death hit him, and what followed was Obito's speech, Naruto's realisation and that broke him.
It was Neji's death that halted the momentum. Afterall people were dying and Naruto was still fighting, It took a friend's sacrifice for him to realise that he promised hollow words that he was unable to fulfill.
@@senpai5834 yh i think neji’s death was the initial shock that causes naruto to stumble and then the realisation of just how many people he allowed to die is what almost breaks naruto, there’s actually a really great shot of naruto’s face in the foreground that shifts focus to a bunch of corpses in the background as obito is talking, but yh i do agree that obito does well to capitalise on what was just supposed to be a random attack to prove his point to naruto and try break his resolve
