They didn't write the character to reflect your actual views because they realized most of their audience would wonder what the problem is.
I mean they could’ve gone super far right like point blank ask if she had an abortion then yell at her if she said yes, or make a crack about lgbt burning in hell, or go on a massive rant about Jesus instead of just socializing.
Instead they made the stereotype Libtard: flat earther, germ phobe, vegan antigmo nut who only drinks water

Exactly, 100%.
I do not think Matt would act like that in the real world. You see him on camera acting in a particular fashion but that is probably not how he would be having a personal conversation.
This is not surprising; leftists don't understand people who think differently from them.
I love how they made you a flat earther when in all reality he would have been kicked off social media for asking “what is a woman?” They should have had him ask that for his small talk.
I was watching this movie for the first time last night. They said her blind date was banned from all social media platforms for “mis” and “dis” information. There's a slight resemblance, but if hallmark is trying to mock Matt they did a lousy job. Obviously their "Matt research" went about as deep as their plots go. This could have been really funny if they'd actually imitated him. God knows he keeps us laughing.
I think their plot was actually deeper than their research on this
I think they got their notes on Walsh from CNN
Well they couldn't get into his Nazi like hate of the lgbtq community in a Christmas movie. That will have to wait.
The speech patterns of fake-Matt are definitely Matt's, but that's the only thing going for the script writers at all.
The resemblance is actually spot on, and the actor did a fantastic job at impersonating Matt. But the writing was wrong as they did not nail what Matt would say or views he would hold.
Matt has officially broken through! He's a star! The Sweet Baby Gang is growing!
At least the movie admits that Matt is cute. And Noel immediately feels "thirsty" after seeing him. Surprisingly flattering portrayal.

OK it’s hard to tell but I think in the end this was supposed to be Matt. However, even though the costume department got it dang near perfect, The writing department fell short and here’s why. every time the writers had to do research into Matt‘s character they kept red pilling themselves by accident. So because Hallmark kept losing all the writers they had to tell the 27th writer to just make s*t up! That’s my theory atleast.
I think you are probably getting it about right. They started with Matt, but had to take it in a different direction so as not to alienate half their audience.
They had to ascribe him the most unhinged conspiracy theories to avoid redpilling the whole audience by going into what he actually believes, believes that no sane person disagrees with.
Indeed. That’s assuming of course, that the left actually takes time to research or understand their opponent’s arguments to begin with.
I hit the "Like" button just to turn your 69 into a 70. This is Hallmark, Dammit!
Or the character has nothing to do with him, and just coincidentally looks like him. It's human to imagine yourself as someone you see on television. It's narcissistic to think that character is based on you.
I have always been a fan of the Hallmark channel but mostly because they used to support traditional values, however they have unfortunately gone seriously woke. I continue to be hopeful that they will turn this back around. As for the likeness to Matt, I caught the physical likeness the moment I saw this movie several weeks ago so that is spot on. As for the personality, a total miss. They created their extremely woke opinion of Matt with this character. I hated the way they made this person seem so awful that no woman on the planet would ever want anything to do with him. A very sad day for Traditional Hallmark fans. Lets hope GAC don't go that way. I am watching them carefully. Thanks for sharing this Matt.
When I heard Matt interject with "I wouldn’t do that", as the movie played, I fell out😂😂😂

Being overly health conscious to the point of condescension is usually a left wing thing.
Why was he kicked off social media seems like he would fit right in. It's a contradictory character.
In general, lefties are more easily bullied by media gaslighting over fake health concerns.
Yeah, its like hyper-lib Soy-Matt.
It seems that everyone here is really stretching things to try to paint this scene as part of a war between left and right. But it's clear that Hallmark went out of their way to pick character traits that were apolitical, presumably so as not to alienate half their potential viewers. Being scared of germs is not political. Being obsessively concerned about health is not political. Thinking the Earth is flat is not political. If they were genuinely trying to make this a political thing, they would have picked a completely different set of characteristics: a particular view on taxes, or guns, or drugs, or something like that. But it seems that no matter how far a company goes to make something apolitical, people are always going to try to read something into it that isn't there.
@@omp199 looks like Scarecrow touched a nerve.
I feel like it's too much of a coincidence that both the speech pattern, composure, and the costuming is so similar. I think they realized in the writing department, however, that they couldn't commit to making a character spout actual truth, so they went with the "health freak conspiracy theorist weirdo" stereotype for the dialogue.
My thoughts exactly.
Exactly! They couldn’t state Matt’s actual points without making their audience potentially agree with him so they did a caricature.

This whole thing doesn't make Fake-Matt look bad but this Noelle character is just awful.
Her acting smug, superior and judgemental is exactly why she needed to be set up with a Fake-Matt in the first place, and even though there is no one better volunteering to date her, she's still basically looking over his shoulder hoping Prince Charming will arrive (even though 35 years in, he hasn't). Maybe try engaging with Fake-Matt instead of standing there like a pompous queen, uncomfortable like you are being poorly entertained. Fake-Matt isn't there to be your entertainment for the evening, he's looking to be himself so he can find the right person for him. Maybe instead of being offended, clutching your pearls, have a fun conversation about why the world is or is not round - that would make for an excellent date!
You're the problem, Noelle. Fake-Matt is handsome, confident, a nice guy, and just a bit quirky. He's WAY too good for you anyway, I hope he finds someone as unique as he is who gets his ideosyncratic look on life.

It's a movie not a series. I actually watched part of it while visiting my mother over the weekend. I also thought that the character is based on Matt when I saw the scene though the fist bump threw the impersonation away.
Course that is not an uncommon stereotype of an uptight person. If they wanted to lampoon right leaning ideas, they would have had his deny climate change, the word woke would have been in there somewhere, and you would have got an off hand comment about high taxes or tolerance.
