    This comment section REEKS of white superiority and unchecked privilege. Shame on those who can't bear to sperate the pristine legend from a piece of media. His race does not change the story, and not all retellings need to be extremely accurate. Point being, there probably weren't dozens of different magical clans aiding him, even if he is based off of a real human that did exist long ago. Let's get to the deeper root of the issue on why you don't want black boys/men to win.

    • @blackthorn7298
      @blackthorn7298 4 роки тому +3

      I've seen Blade. Great movie about a black guy who wins. He was black tn the source material, and I have no problem with it. But in Cursed - it's just cultural appropriation. Even if it's just a myth, it is still part of european culture and history, and there was no place in it for black people. It is the same as if white people started to do blackface or wear native american clothes.

    • @ptitecame6688
      @ptitecame6688 4 роки тому +4

      Easy:
      1 - Because I want the European lore to be respected the same way than the others.
      2 - Because when it's the other way around, people go nuts.
      3 - Because since Hollywood won't shut up about diversity, I want them to adapt new tales, create new characters rather than lazily race-swaping old ones and getting praised for it.

    King Arthur was White and blonde. This political correctness is chilling!

    •  4 роки тому +4

      @Jordan Reynolds It is historical. Arthur was mentioned in multiple different historical documents, just because it has been elaborated on & turned to myth doesn't negate that fact. & lighter brown isn't White.

    • @arbutusviper1
      @arbutusviper1 4 роки тому

      @Jordan Reynolds I agree, it's fiction FFS. That's why I propose that the remake of 'Black Panther' should cast a BTS member in the titular role. Anyone who objects to it on the grounds of "cultural appropriation" is a crybaby who needs to check their fragility.

    • @ptitecame6688
      @ptitecame6688 4 роки тому +3

      @Jordan Reynolds So a fictional country like Wakanda is a reason enough for Black Panther to be black, but mythologic medieval Britain is not? 🤔 Yeah, makes sense…
      The problem is not about creating opportunities for actors of color (although they represent 10% of the USA so of course there are more white actors to cast). It’s about using black actors like percentages rather than people, and claiming the European lore doesn’t deserve the same respect than the others.
      All Hollywood won’t shut up about diversity and about the media being « too white », yet do they bother writing new black characters? Or adapting African mythology? No. They still want to adapt white medieval European stories because of how popular they are, then race swap the characters just to get praise for it. Well sorry, I don’t like laziness and hypocrisy.
      And I don’t know where you heard there were tons of Black people in medieval Europe (I’m not convinced but let’s suppose there were), you’re talking about a time when violence and discrimination were at their peak. There was certainly no black knights in Europe. Ever. Sorry.

    •  4 роки тому +2

      @Jordan Reynolds You're right, I am outside of your intellectual* bracket. By a long, long way, because I have far more than the 87 average your race has. But let's be honest, Coco the Guerilla has more than that. So it's not exactly difficult.

    • @ptitecame6688
      @ptitecame6688 4 роки тому +1

      @Jordan Reynolds Wow, no answering to my arguments, only repeating what you just said with verbal attacks. Fond of SJW tactics, I see… And you wonder why people are so fed up with you.
      I maintain what I said. Sorry to pop your bubble, but 99% of our history books about Western Europe don’t even mention Black people until the rise of international trading in the XIIIth century. Diversity is the result of decades of migration, trade and slavery. People didn’t just pop up with different skin colors in the same town.
      And again, we’re talking about a time when most of the population were ignorants fools who were afraid of anything they were not familiar with. You honestly think people who never saw a Black person in their life would not discriminate the heck of out him? Let alone knight him? Nonsense. Stop pretending Europe was a diverse paradise everytime being « historical victims » doesn’t suit you anymore.
      Then there is your rant about the actor « being biracial so he has a right to claim his white lineage », and this is honestly hilarious. Oh, I guess I can be casted in any African tale adaptation then- Why not? I’m an European, Europeans lived in Africa for decades. So I’m allowed to claim their entire culture, it’s mine as well. Jesus Christ.
      And I’m not hating on the actor. He sounds like a pretty decent guy, but a part of his job is unfortunately based on his looks, and he doesn’t look like King Arthur. Period.

      @Maria Fernández No, black panther is a fictional character. King Arthur according to medieval histories and romances, led the defence of Britain against Saxon invaders in the late 5th and early 6th centuries. He is mentioned in Histoia Brittonum, Historia Regum Britanniae, & Annales Cambriae. He is a legendary leader/King of his country & people. Which is why his nationality & heritage is important. Add to that his basis in actual history. There are no black English Kings or leaders. No black English people. At that time there are no black people in the country. So it would be like casting Tom Cruise as a legendary Zulu warrior. It's ridiculous & insulting.
      What I find interesting is how you think an entirely fictional modern character like black panther is more entitled to his heritage than an ancient legend, with a basis in actual history, is his. Why is that? Because it seems entirely racist.

      @ Without wanting to seem too pedantic, Arthur was not English, he was Brythonic. "Englishness" or the English identity was centuries from being a concept in the 6th Century and "England" is both etymologically and culturally derived from "Anglo-Saxon" - the very people Arthur is reputed to have fought against. I'd like to label him Welsh (I am a Welshman myself) as Wales and Cornwall became the post-invasion vestiges of Britonic culture, but even that would technically be inaccurate. He should be labelled British, or more accurately Brythonic/Britonic.
      I otherwise agree, it's a clear attempt to woo a certain audience. Those who can't understand why this is as unacceptable as, say, Shaka Zulu being portrayed by a white actor, clearly do not understand the cultural impact of the Arthurian mythos on European culture, and while the story surrounding Arthur is fictional, he is based on several real-life Brythonic and Welsh warlords of the 6th Century. Ironically, these same people would be (rightfully) outraged if an African folk hero was portrayed by a white actor - they just cannot see that their ambivalence when the roles are reversed makes them seem like hypocrites.
