you ask why deftones is populair, but the more intreging question is; what is kermit doing in your throat and how did you get stuck midway through puberty?
Super happy Chino's gettin checks again. People forget Chino WAS the thirst trap back in the day, and the ladies flocked.
It's still kinda fucked what they did to Sergio.
chino will always be the thirst trap imo
@@Mcowling what did they do?
@@Mcowling
What exactly did they do to serge ?? They used to tour together back when system was more active. Serge even
Cameod on their 2007 album
Saturday night wrist.
I flocked
I'm old now and grew up with Deftones. After years of listening to the band, Koi No Yokan has become their absolute best and most powerful album in my mind. I think people overlook just how perfect and unique every song on the album is. "Entombed" man.... has to be the most beautiful and sad song ever written. RIP Chi
Broooooo I listen to song from that album daily. It’s amazing.
Rosemary be my fave song from that album
Truthfully I don't think there is a bad Deftones album but everyone has their favorite. They are an amazing band to see live and were a fun group of guys to hang out with back in the day. I got to hang out with Deftones many times back in the late 90's. Chi had me hang out with him doing laundry, at a place no longer in existence called Smiley's, on their Denver stop during the Around the Fur tour. Was so sad to learn about his accident. Miss you brother Chi. Watched Chino do a Nestea plunge off a speaker tower onto his back on the stage at the Paramount Theater and get up 10 seconds later and let out a belter of a scream with the song like nothing happened. And after meeting up with them after the show found out why he was able to do that. (No comment) Hopefully Chino isn't still losing one of his shoes during shows like he used to as people used to take it while he was crowd surfing. Think it was his left one if I remember correctly after yelling at a group of people in the crowd about how he would lose the same shoe every time he went surfing and had a closet full of the other shoes at home.
I'm 34, and I can't believe children today listen to the shit I liked when I was a teen. Good for them.
Deftones are based and one of my favorite bands of all time. Can't count how many times White Pony was the album of choice from a lot of girl's when came to the bedroom. 👌🏾
True. Team Sleep too
@@JustTheTip556 respect for mentioning this. I don't see enough people showing them love. And I'm going to mention Palms and Crosses as well. Especially Crosses. They don't miss.
@@Magdalena8008s I'm not a huge fan of Palms or Crosses but I think team sleep is great. Especially their demo tapes, I have them on CD just in case they ever get taken off of UA-cam
can you elaborate on "White Pony was the album of choice from a lot of girl's when came to the bedroom. 👌🏾"
My favorite band since 95. I saw them open for Bad Brains here in Lawrence, KS. Fkn OG. People hating on Deftones can fuck right off.
Deftones, Crosses, and Team Sleep. Ya gotta give Chino some props. I'm glad they're still being talked about. 👍🤘
Team Sleep is incredible. I wish they got the love they deserved. Same with Crosses. Put some respect on it.
Don't forget Palms!
Team sleep is beautiful.
People slept on Team Sleep! honestly ! Crosses hits different !! 47 and I remember the early Days DT, woman loved them then and get turned on now by them!! they make very Nostalgic tempo'd Music!
I went to a team sleep concert in 05. Let’s just say it was the greatest concert I’ve ever been to by FAR and I’ve seen the Deftones 10+ times.
Prayers/Triangles is an underrated banger of a song.
Saw Deftones live with Gojira last summer. Wasn’t expecting much due to hearing rumors of the band not being the best at playing live, but they killed it.
They're one of the rare bands that have gotten better with age versus there formidable years when they were all high off cocaine 24/7.
Been listening to them since the White Pony album came out. My 15 year old daughter use to hate my music...from jazz, blues and all the way through the metal spectrum. All of a sudden she goes "Do know Deftones?" I'm like WTF? Just happy she actually listens to something decent every now and then lol
Oh man I remember getting white pony when it came out, I was a dang toolhead so I was hype for Passenger... I didn't know what was waiting for me.
Same with my kids, they hate everything I try to show them but love among us parodies and imagine dragons 😫... Maybe one day...one day...
@davidb4935 Your kids are way too young to have a defined music taste just wait until they are around 18...
she's trying to find her identity, disliking everything her parents like is part of that lol
@@maryfreegirl2029 I never did that, half of the stuff I like (and liked back then) my parents have introduced me to. The other half was stuff I discovered on my own, then either learnt that my parents also liked/heard of and if they didn't like, I'd introduce it to them if I felt they would enjoy it. Never would have gotten into metal if my dad didn't have his Sehnsucht album with the broken case.
My first concert when I was a teen was to go see Godsmack, and Deftones opened up for then on their White Pony tour. Needless to say I was instantly a fan. They're like our generations Pink Floyd.
Love this band so much. Was lucky enough to see them live once.
thanks for the reaction, props for recognizing 6teen
Deftones have very good sounding songs. I really like they’re Self-titled album and Diamond Eyes, those are my 2 favorite Deftones albums, at one point they became my fav band.
I’m 45 and have been listening to Deftones since Adrenaline dropped while I was a junior in HS. Deftones has been one of the most consistent bands of the last 20+ years which is why they still hold up
Found this band through my mom at a very young age. Left such a huge impact and honestly I'm so glad their stuff is getting so much recognition again.
heyy! i’m 20 and i got into deftones when i was about 18 or so. i think what really did it for me was that i was super into shoegaze, and i was pretty big on alt rock in general. i had never heard any music from deftones at all, but when i first heard be quiet and drive… man… to me it felt like a darker, and even more atmospheric version of shoegaze. i deleted tiktok in 2019, so i haven’t experienced the online viral resurgence, but as a younger fan i think many of us just view it as an intense extension of shoegaze/ alt rock. also i don’t know if this is a shared experience but my friends and I all went crazy over around the fur, and didn’t pay as much attention to white pony. so yeah, i think the younger audience is just perceiving it very differently from how the original gen x once saw it.
Chino's way of writing melodies is/was unironically so daring and advanced that it might continue to sound fresh for every new generation. There's often not a single chord note for long stretches. Try creating that kind of melody over a chord progression and not song out of tune
The thing I have always loved about Deftones is that I can just play their music on shuffle and not have to skip anything. Hours of good music. Few artists I can do that with.
I’m 15 and I’ve only gotten into deftones recently. Mid 2022 I think. But they’ve become my favorite band. Around the fur is my number one favorite album. Not just my favorite deftones album but it’s my absolute favorite album of all time. I’ve always admired carpenters guitar work and chinos vocals. Chi is probably one of the best bassists I’ve ever and Abe is an amazing drummer. To me they’re sound has never been topped. They went above nu metal with white pony and to me kinda changed the sound of early 2000’s music. A lot of music after white pony has had that deftones edge to it. Or at least to me. Idk. But deftones is just the best band, change my mind
Good for you! I’m 13 so I’m glad I’m not alone, you need to listen to bloody cape by Deftones 🤘
@@pilotsutterfield7053 You're welcome! Enjoy listen.
I'm 15 and I barely know Deftones, hell even listen to them, even being part of the metal scene I guess. I didn't know I was supposed to love them 😅
I'm glad Zommers exist here tho :)
Go check Moodring, a band from Florida, fresh enough for you to get behind it. You’ll hear some Deftones influence, too.
Kate bush had a resurgence of popularity with de zoomers, too. Pretty cool tbh. Good music stays as good music
Neo Punk FM's content is soooooo good
Certainly is!
'Phrost
Wholesome.
Hey what’s up Finn? 🤘🏻😬
Got absolutely blown away by Deftones when they opened up for The Dillinger Escape Plan in Commodore ballroom 2011. Never gonna forget that concert.
numetal is getting popular again with the tiktok editing community recently, that could also be part of the reason
That's awesome to see regardless! I first heard the Deftones last year when they started getting radio play on some of the "Alt" channels.
There was a deathcore band I saw in Grand Rapids a few years ago that opened for Jinjer and they had the vocalist doing tenor saxophone solos and it sounded awesome
I'm 21 and remember this song from car rides with my family and radio stuff in general. Now that I rediscovered them I feel too much nostalgia. The music makes me feel like I'm in a montage/music video of my childhood and experiences when growing up like in a flash. Makes me feel very happy I lived them but sad I can't go back if that makes sense. Great great music (Be quiet and drive is my favorite song by them).
Been a deftone fan since 2009, glad more people are getting into them
I'm really glad Neo Punk FM is getting exposure, these guys are really cool.
I hate that I've been sleeping on deftones for so long (9 years) because listening to them now, daaaaang
Ive been listening to them hard again Idk why ( I dont have tik tok) but I just felt like listening to them and then all of a sudden they became popular again.
Deftones is my number 1 band ever since when i first heard them when i was 14 years old now I'm 32 and still have deftones on my playlist, they are so unique in every aspect in my own ears and eyes. Thanks to my older sisters when they let me hear it.
I’ve been listening to Deftones since 2000 because I’m old but when I saw them last year there were loads of teens there and it was their first ever live music experience, they were going crazy over tracks off Gore but the encore was 100% Adrenaline and they really were not prepared for the elder millennials who destroyed them in the pit 🤣
Found them in 2018 with Koi no Yokan and have been in love ever since, 100% my favorite band
Man I've loved Deftones forever since my parents would always listen to them, and they had a song in a DragonBall Z movie, Deftones and Tool were huge parts of my childhood (Thanks Dad) so its really interesting to see this phenomenon around them come up after so many years.
Far away and change always resonated with me.
Something about the haunting vocals and overall sound design just gives me some escapism.
You and this video are hitting the nail on the head.
Well, Nick, saxophone in Termina song - sounds like an art challenge worth to be accepted. I'd like to check it out, if you would make it to make sense
I have no clue how I didn’t get into deftones the same way everyone else did, my friend showed me the scene from American dad where Stan is letting himself go, and change is playing in the background, I thought it sounded cool, and now they, and tool, are my favorite bands
So we've come full circle. Deftones got alot of its influence from Depeche Mode. Guess who was listening to Depeche Mode back in the day? That's right goth bitches. The ORIGINAL goth bitches.
Been on the Deftones Train since their first album...god I'm old!
I feel one thing ppl don't mention enough is that those of us who grew up in the 90's and early 00's had the experience of movies already giving us waves of good music, so the factor of media playing part was always there and deftones have always been big in that sense. One thing I miss a lot tho is that so many movies had an alternative style to them during that period and I don't think it will ever happen to that level again. Matrix, the crow, resident evil, tomb raider to a degree with the Korn musics, Queen of the damned just to name a few examples all had soundtracks that mainly pleased the ears of those who leaned alternative. You don't often see film directors use the alternative scene for soundtracks nowadays. So it was only a matter of time ppl would create their own as this type of music has that cathartic element for most that you cannot get from radio music if you know what I mean. and that app seems like the place where kids make their own soundtracks xD as cringy as it may be it just makes sense that music like this would blow up in that setting. Even if through thirst traps.
As a Tool fan, I'm still searching for the perfect half-blue, half-red body-painted GF.
I saw them in England on the Around the Fur tour, supported by Will Haven.
I’ve gotten into metal since 2021 and only listened yo deftones mid 2022, and i think they’re my fav band because theres never a genre to exactly describe them
i heard change in an episode of American dad listened to it and now i love them... didnt even know it was on tiktok lmao
It's because the band is timeless
1:40 I know bro! and I am 28 now. Music peaked at 2005 and then started going down hill.. but as teen found shelter in shoegaze and grunge.. and metalcore and doom metal.
I ran into Abe Cunningham (Deftones' drummer) at Aftershock 2022 back in October. Super nice guy, and incredibly solid drummer
Can’t go wrong with Deftones. Definitely loved the Diamond Eyes album.
One of their best
I'm honestly so glad that the ypungens are open to older music as well as whatever they do nowadays. I totally support older bands getting some fresh funds
I’m glad that Deftones is getting some recognition, but I’m also sad that they’re being used for thirst-traps 😭
I hope more old bands start to get more popular with people my age.
Well at least they are also influential in the music scene itself. The recent Nu Metal revival brought a lot of Deftones whorship like Loathe, My Ticket Home or Thornhill.
I like that finally rock/metal is getting trendy, BUT its literally with the dumbest app ever created and by sadly my stupid generation 😒
I hope that bands in general become more popular and kids start playing instruments again. I feel like it's the coolest when one is young and full of talent showcasing it to his generation.
Eveansense when?
Trust me. Deftones is NOT underrated at all.
im so glad. im only 25 but it happened that deftones was my high school band. favorite one sonce then, too.
I think Gen Z that are into rock and metal make some kick ass music. If they love Deftones they are on a good path🤘
Idk how these guys went under the radar for me, I’ve always loved alt metal and rock, so I glad these memes popped up and introduced me to some great new music. I’ve also rediscovered soundgarden, honestly this kind of music needs to get its claws back into mainstream music, like how it was in the early 2000s
Still listen to Deftones daily in my Playlist. Being 15 when the White Pony Album came out. Listened to that everyday on the way to school and after school on my cd Walkman.....
The song Rosemary on the album Koi No Yokan is the exact description of breaking thru on DMT. Deftones makes way more sense after that experience.
Been on this since 97 with ATF. Far is thee first song I ever heard from them.
I'm 25, been listening to Deftones since I was 5 years old because of my big brother, love them to death, still blasting them everyday, but idk how I feel about this popularity spike again, especially because of tik tok 🥴
Just like you, listened to them since I was in middle school. I’m 26 now, and I remember very little people my age knew who Deftones were besides older people. My favorite band always, but it just sucks that I can’t listen to them the same now, knowing there’s new “fans” who listen to them just because they’re trending on tik tok.
Good for Deftones but also I don’t know if I can forgive them for letting Sergio go 🥲 KNY and ohms are some of my favorite albums of all time thanks to him
I'm still not either, but I still love 'em
Got you, but beeing in a band is really hard. Especially the topic money as the money a band can generate highly flucturates. Most bands not even generate money every month, but a lot in others.
And befor everybody hates everything about everybody it's better to move on in piece.
Hi, I was not going to respond but I have to say this, I'm old former B-boy from '80's been into band when I heard digital bath/got diamond eyes -favorite/gore, one thing is they're great musicians which sets them apart. They are being discovered by new generation and what has been an obstacle is they haven't gotten a lot of airplay all these years.. Miss Chi(hope his family is taken care of), but thought the way they did Sergio was not Cool at all who stepped in after and was surprised to find out he was not permanent member but on contracts after all the work he has contributed plus he put out video after split which is hard to see,as a old man I realized some things are worth more than money ( They have a lot so why did it go down like that?) I even replied to it and thanked him and mentioned he is part of music history and was with a legendary band. Thanks -Smith 'Hot Wheels guy'Die cast Bham Al
@@darinsmith4414 Yeah I was surprised he wasn’t a full member too after ten years and like 4 or 5 albums? One of my favorite bass players, ESPECIALLY ohms it’ll be interesting to see what the next album sounds like
Nice. More Deftons in my life. Dreams come True. Playlist music + randoms vids😎
Deftones fan since Adrenaline. Still one of my favourite albums Saw them in concert 20 some years ago.
and where can I buy that T shirt? Bro is just sitting there deadpanning wearing an amazing tshirt
neopunkfm is quickly becoming a great channel for the alternative scene
When was deftones not ever it though? They’ve always had their own niche in my opinion or maybe this is the revival of sexy core as a whole 😩🖤 A much needed revival! (I’m looking at you too Sleeptoken)
holyfuck sleep token
I'm 31 and even for me Deftones played a key role in the early development of my music taste. This band, along with Linkin Park, Children of Bodom and Korn defined my early adolescence.
It's cool to see that they are still being appreciated by young people today. Good musicis timeless.
I'm 14 and I discovered them last year. I always heard of the album white pony, and after I saw they are performing at Rock am Ring. (because I'm living in Germany, and in Germany you can watch rock am ring in TV) I'm a Metalhead for years, and I checked the album out and I still love it
I remember first hearing My own summer and was hooked. The Queen of the Damned soundtrack is an alt metal classic
im 29 and i just got into deftones because of seeing songs made with dance gavin dance and polyphia and i got hooked
I've always loved Deftones. It's been one of my favorite bands since I was a kid in the 90s.
I'm into deftones since like end of 2019, i'm happy about it :)
Top tier vid
Always wonder how many guys like me, typical zoomer 2005 born with a soul which made a long 5-year way from hearing panic at the disco at pop radio to completely be sold to 90s at all. Alice in chains and Deftones for sure the greatest pieces of art I've ever met, and it feels that they're gonna be constant for all life. Happy that one of the most favorite band for the last couple of years is in GOOD hype, and not in weird sped up remixed and all that things-way but with respectfully immersion in all 30-year discography (or maybe I'm on normal side of tiktok, idk)
I've gotten into nu metal in 2021 october through tiktok, but now ive discovered a real taste in metal music and listen to most types of metal (fav bands are gojira and kreator)
Idk if i should feel happy more people are listening to them because i've always been sharing them to anyone willing to listen. But when stuff like this happens I get like hesitant to bring them up in music conversations with friends for fear of being perceived in the wrong way. I was born on the border of zoomer, But deftones was one of the first bands i got into and were extremely formitive. they were one of the first bands i got cds burnt of by my siblings when i was 7/8. I got into guitar because of them and they sparked my love of music. nowadays I've been in love with bands like MBV and slowdive, and other dreamier music like oeil because of what deftones instilled when i was little. regardless i guess it's cool because im sure more people will start getting influence from them and we'll get cool music from it.
I'm in the same boat. I found them a few years ago but I'm an old gen-z so I'm always hesitant bringing them up because I don't want people to think that I only see them as another popular artist on tiktok, when in reality the band holds so much more personal meaning to me. I'm also a girl and absolutely do not want people misunderstanding and thinking that I'm just trying to be like a "goth gf chick" like in the video. Its not just a music trend that I hopped on, its a band that has completely changed my music taste and motivated me to keep playing bass.
Probably another big reason for more recent popularity is chino Moreno’s feature on polyphia’s song bloodbath
deftones are a unique band from the nu-metal days, i loved how stephen downtuned the guitars with each album (i met them once and learned that stephen is a huge messuggah fan which is probably why, lovely guys too!) despite that they always had a sexy sound to them, great music to make love to your old lady by, great to hear they're having a resurgence as they deserve it. RIP Chi
Kinda weird to hear people talk about one of my most favorite bands ever. Been listening to them since I was a teen, and even bought two copies of Around the Fur (one for my car, one for my home system at the time) when it was released because I loved that album so freaking much. I actually did not like White Pony when it was released, wasn't heavy enough for my tastes, except for the song Elite. Knife Prty was amazing tho, and after seeing them live, I ended up loving that album. I own all their albums except Gore. So happy so see them thrive, and continue to make amazing music!
Surprised it's that song and not 'My own summer', that's always been the one that really hits for me
They've always been popular.
For anyone wanting a similar FEEL type band but different genre, check out the album Mezzanine by Massive Attack. It came out in 1998 but it still sounds like it's from the future. It's a masterpiece front to back..
Been a fan since My Own Summer and Digital Bath... not into their newer stuff for obvious reasons, but it's always good, kids these days, love bands like deftones 👌
Thanks for making this video. What type of eye shadow do you use?
The fact that they threw shade at "Adrenaline" and "Around the Fur" made me scream "WHAT!!!" at the screen. 😆
I dont see much love for the self titled but that album got me into them and has some of the hardest songs they ever made.
I listened to deftones since I was like 13/14, then completely forgot about their existence until I think 2020 or something, when they released Ohms and I rediscovered their whole discography and now they're My favorite band, like, since 2020 I literally haven't stopped listening to them....
I havent listened deftones in over 10yrs 😂
This makes me feel old AF I was in highschool during the nu metal days 😬
I only know a few songs by them. I only saw them live because they were opening for gnr.
Been rocking to Deftones since 95 at 13 yrs old! The fucking 90's what a time to be alive!!! 🤘
that video is giving off some nakeyjakey vibes, even down to the thps reference lol
I heard Deftones the first time around 2006, with their song My Own Summer leaving me with the feeling that someone kicked my head. After that I went down the rabbit hole, and boy it was something.
feeling old , when i got to this band 25 years ago xd
As an older zoomer, 21, I got into Deftones right before Ohms came out. I had heard a few of their songs before because I've grown up around metal, but it wasn't until Ohms that I actually sat down and listened to them and absolutely fell in love with the band. About a year or so later was when I started seeing older Deftones stuff pop up on tiktok. At first I thought it was because tiktok was spying on me and knew I was in their top 1% of listeners the previous year. But then I slowly realized that no. Deftones was in fact trending on tiktok. Honestly, I think that a lot of alternative stuff from the late 90s-2000s, that I was old enough to see but not partake in, is resurging because of the whole 20-year-fashion-rule and since alternative fashion/"aesthetics" and music are kind of linked, a lot of alternative music is making a comeback into mainstream spaces. I mean you can see that just by looking at pop music today with how every other pop artist is dipping their toes in pop-punk and pop-rock.
But like good for Deftones, its awesome that there are tons of new fans.
You make me feel old, when you where born I was legal to drink 😂 I’m 42 n 53 in 2 months
33yo talkin': i'm just stoked that y2k era stuff has hit the nostalgia cycle. i really missed it, even though I usually ignored Deftones in favor of Incubus at the time. I'd probably have listened to White Pony had I bothered taking SCIENCE out of my cd player lol. Not that there wasn't cool music from the late 00s through the 2010s, but seeing THIS music that was so big for so many of us finally return to the limelight at all is just terrific.
Deftones sound has held up better than other bands of the early 2000s era. I get why they're getting a resurgence of popularity.
Exactly
Been a fan since 99 when I was 21.
Wow i just watched this video like 2 hours ago 🤣 what incredible timing.
Adrenaline and Around the fur are still my favorites white pony just didn't have the flair that first 2 did
Queen of the damned introduced me to Deftones🖤
1st saw them at 16 during thier around the fur tour. 2 separate pits the whole show Last song Chino told everyone to bring the pits together into 1 giant pit......barley made it out alive, almost died and it was the greatest show of my life
loved this band for the past 8 years
My favorite band of all time. Been a fan since 1996.
Groove hard and catchy and they rock.
I got back into the Deftones wagon with their latest album Ohms, good balance of Chino’s emo/Shoegaze and Stephen’s Messhugah-like riffs.
Because Deftones is amazing. Glad I was able to provide this service.
