It's a hard place to play if you're not an Australian or South African. No English batter has got a ton there since Trott and Cook in 2010. The WACA was even more difficult...
Had Ganguly not been Indian captain and played as a middle order batsman only, he could have easily scored 10k runs in test cricket. Captaincy took a toll in his batting as it was a very challenging time for Indian cricket. A very gifted player.

This particular knock got Ganguly out of the team and he came back as the best batsman of his team and finally forced to retire because India had younger players to fill the spot but the fact is we still don't have better no 5 than him and still we haven't found replacement of Ganguly,laxman and Kumble.
