- Running a slinky continuously down a treadmill.
I was too sick to go diving last weekend. So when I saw this video • Slinky On Treadmill 1a I thought to myself, heck I bet I could beat 22 seconds if I tried. So I set up my own treadmill and gave it a shot. Totally made a world record XD

About a minute in, I stopped laughing and began to feel deep empathy for the slinky. Its story is the story of us all.
You're not wrong, that's how you live. You have to keep moving. You don't have to physically move, but internally you are moving. If you stop moving and fall off the treadmill, you are dead. Kurzgesagt made a video about this, check it out.
Add to this that it moves like some one deprived of food for days dragging themselves along ever forward.

Literally only clicked on the video to find this comment.
I leave Slinky at the foot of the treadmill! One always finds one's burdens again. But slinky teaches the higher fidelity that negates gods and raises coils. He, too, concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master, seems to him neither sterile nor futile; each atom of that treadmill, each brittle leaf of that bush-filled ground, in and of itself forms a world. It's enough to fill a man's heart.
That's one hell of a recovery at 1:41. You go, slinky!
Ahahahahaha
MrSanfrinsisco 😬😀😀😀😀😀😀
+styx85 You can't keep a good slinky down
it started walking like a human xD
Holy moley
Slinky goes through life one step at a time, but never giving up no matter how long the journey seems. We could all learn a thing from him.
Be like slinky.

Now I want a slinky again! Just don’t get it in your hair! Trust me! 😮

My heart skipped a beat when the slinky almost fell off of the back of the treadmill, but his determination to keep going forward is surely an inspiration to us all. Much like Sisyphus, the slinky will keep trying to get his boulder, which we can interpret as life itself, to the end of the treadmill, only to fail every time he gets closer to the end.
Never have the travails of existence better been portrayed by a 50 cent toy.
This comment is pretty relevant now.

Are you still alive after all these years?
One must imagine the slinky happy
Same feeling.. Honestly don't know why it happened though😅
This genuinely hit me on an emotional level. It looked like he was about to give up so many times but he kept on going and going! Go on little slinky keep going till you cant slink no more!
hmmmm emotional?
GO SLINKY I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!
This is a warrior’s tale.
Never have I been as emotionally attached to a slinky as when I first saw this video.
Go Slinky! Go! Go for the Honor and Glory and Fame! Let all who see your deed marvel at your courage and tenacity! Do it for the children of the future! We all stand behind you. FOR SLINKY!!!
Nothing prepares you for this. I cheered, I shouted, I fist-pumped the air. I cried, I stood and cheered. It’s absolutely everything you hoped it was going to be and I’m so proud to comment on it, and I can’t wait for you to see it.

@@sirtsregris9040miss ya big man. Thanks for all the laughs
Met Slinky at a charity do once; he was surprisingly down to earth and VERY funny
Most people are like slinkies , their really not good for anything , but still bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs
Well said my friend...Well said.
Lol too funny

It's actually true!!!
Legendary comment m8 xD
Some say it is still slinking to this day...
+Anthony Khodanian came for this :D
Anthony Khodanian legend has it that its STILL slinking...
Even 4 years later it is STILL SLINKING! Also it became the Slin king!
Even 8 years later
Hahaha!
I love that the slinky even self-corrects when it gets to the edge...
How does this comment only have 11 likes in 11 years.
I mean...who doesn't love the self correction?
The inside moving while the outside remains static causes a rotation motion that turns it toward the center. Hence the correction when on the edge
Life's like a Slinky on treadmill.
Sometimes you get to the top (front), sometimes you are at the bottom, sometimes you fall behind and sometimes you feel like you want to give up. But just like the Slinky you have to keep going strong.
You know this video really has it all. As it began I found myself laughing uncontrollably at our hero's whimsical adventure. But as the video went on, I found myself endeared to our metallic friend and his exploits along the treadmill of life. Soon I was screaming "No Slinky! NO!" as he slowly came closer and closer to the end of the road, thinking that all was lost. I even shed a manly tear as he fumbled to regain his footing towards the end. Truly, nothing on the internet can match the beauty.
The determination and spirit of this brave Slinky as he travels his course is awe-inspiring. We should all dig deep to find the Slinky in all of us.
I like the part at 0:08 where the Slinky went off the tread and then went back on to it - demonstrating that Slinky has intelligence and critical thinking skills.
Who could possibly dislike this? It's an amazing story of one slinky and how he accomplished his dream. It was a long and hard journey, almost slipping off at one point, but eventually he will accomplish this.
Ah yes the time before youtube was a fully dystopian nightmare. Before the censorship got really bad you used to be able to see dislikes without custom extensions. What a time
@@SecretMarsupial482 dislikes Currently
Im gonna assume most are people that were disappointed they didn't get to see the ending of the slinky makeing it to the end, or dieing and falling off the back. It's the only logical reason to dislike
@@RustyNipscompared to the 33k likes? I think that's a win
Wow. Time traveler. One day, perhaps that day is today, kids won't even understand the meaning the dislike button used to have.
That's because it's mediocre, no offense.
This slinky is a true inspiration and a testament to the slinky spirit. Never giving in...never giving up. In the face of adversity one must push on and forward to the horizon. I recommend any slinky facing hardships to watch this video and know that any slinky can do amazing things. I close with these words to slinkies all around the world. No stair case to tall, no treadmill to long, don't ever look back, slink forward, slink on.
I find myself strangely motivated after watching this
It's the music. Try listening to it with the sound off instead if you don't want to get motivated.
Recently I lost my wife and kids in a terrible circus accident. (I'll spare you the details but it involved two forks, a picture frame and a Russian bear on a unicycle.) Everyday I load this video to inspire myself. If this slinky can keep going against all odd then I too can chug through life. Thank you slinky, you've made my life worth living again.
For real?
@@TaxingIsThievingyeah I read the news article about this accident. Definitely not for the faint of heart, pretty gory.
What is it?
My heart skipped a beat at 1:42, why do i feel more emotionally invested in this slinky than anything else for years?
Go slinky! We believe in you! You CAN do it!
You can win in your boxing match. GO GO GO you have only 2 fans, me and mustache man
Yes go, go, go
why am I talking to a toy?!
Haha. Like
Mustache Guy GOOOOOO SLINKY
i once watched this while i was high and i found it the most emotionally moving thing i had ever seen. it literally brought tears to my eyes (not something easily accomplished) and at the end i was heartbroken because he never reached the end. but then i realized that this is just a metaphor for real life and that in life there are barriers that you must overcome, and that your future is unknown and the only way to figure out the answer was to live life.
Yes, but he didn't give up neither. Even close to failure, he didn't give up.
I was surprised at just how much of treadmill area Mr Slinky ended up using! We know that the treadmill is going at a constant rate, but Mr Slinky seems to advance and retire, almost falling off the end and it uses both sides of the treadmill. Such variations in its behaviour.
If you notice, the tread isn't smooth. That unevenness would be enough to prevent Slinky from walking in a straight line.
I genuinely want this video to never end. Thank god it ended how it did. I couldnt take it any other way.
Such... energy efficiency.
I know...it's so beautiful. "sniff" (sorry engineer here)
It's more than that, I think. Sure, it is energy efficient, but did you notice how the slinky was moving up and down the treadmill? That means the slinky's relative speed must have been changing (assuming the treadmill was going at a constant speed). If it was merely super energy efficient, then I'd expect it to slowly slide back on the treadmill or at least stay at a fixed location. But if it moves up, it's got to be getting energy from somewhere - presumably the treadmill itself somehow. I can't guess what. Maybe the treadmill is on a slight downhill slope and it's location on the treadmill is some sort of chaotic attractor? (sorry, physicist here... strongly tempted to reproduce this in my lab)
Lightspectre1
I thought it could actually extract some energy from the moving (externally powered) treadmill.
IMortage Well, of course, gravity is pretty consistent after all.
Lightspectre1 its the angle that the slinky makes its next flip that makes it moves up or down the treadmill.
For anyone wondering why it keeps going, it is gravity. One end of the treadmill is higher than the other, when Slinkys climb down stairs it is because one end of the slinky is lower than the other so the pull of gravity on one end outweighs the ability to 'stay put' of the other end, and theoretically it could go on forever, just like water or any other thing running down hill, gravity does all of the work - hence the scene in Ace Ventura 2 where Ace uses a slinky on a mile-high set of stairs.
It's the same effect used when syphoning fuel from a vehicle, if the destination can/bucket/receptacle is below the fuel tank then gravity will cause the fuel to keep flowing into the receptacle until there's no fuel left in the tank. Basically one side has a stronger pull than the the other side's ability to resist that pull - it's just a state of falling. The slinky is "falling" down the treadmill and will do so until something stops it.
I can't think of a better way that I could have spent these last 200 seconds.
Slinky, you are an honorable spring. Slink on with pride!
True inspiration to us all. An Oscar-worthy performance with a deep message of encouragement.

Greetings from the Year 2021. We have an inanimate object in the form of Potato Joe current as the 46th Resident of the Nursing Home Formerly Known As The White House. 😑
This slinky has more stamina than I do on the treadmill
I can't believe I just sat here and watched a slinky for 3 minutes in which I teared up at 2:40. And it was the best 3 minutes I ever spent on youtube.
That's also damn good music.
I've been going through hard stuff lately. Today, I was studying math but couldn't stop my sad thoughts.
I decided to go through my "things make me happy" list. As soon as I saw this, I clicked play.
This slinky made me cry man. I feel much more motivated to go on now.
So, who won? This is like missing the last page of the book where the murderer is revealed!
The slinky can’t “win,” can only run away :(
This is the most epic slinky walk ever. The music sums it up perfectly. "Once a hero, now a slave to the machines, slinky will rise again and take control. On his epic journey he will enlist all the slinkys. Rainbow, steel, white, brown, green. Who will win? Who will perish? Who will engage in a fierce love triangle? Find out in cinemas soon!"

The slinky’s never ending journey to the path of greatness, truly inspiring
I aspire to be like that slinky one day. It is truly inspirational.
The message this slinky is telling us is too deep for me
It looks like it's struggling, yet it still keeps going despite the struggles. What a gigachad, it represents all of us.
I feel like this slinky has gone through better character development than most irl people
And may still be going till this very day
This is such an amazing journey. Just when you think he's going to make it to the end, you're routing it on and everything, and it starts to get tired and slows down.. But so determined not to fall off the end, it tries again. We're routing it on again! And it once again fails. My heart goes out to you slinky. May you one day achieve your dreams of reaching the front of the treadmill. You are a true inspiration and show we should all be like you. Never give up people, *sniff* never give up.
This... was... awesome. Why, I have no I idea but for some reason I was hooked. The determination of that Slinky was hypnotizing. It simply defies belief.
I've never seen something as nerve-wrecking as this! D:
This perfectly represents life. All the keeping going forward, even when being so close to success and so close to failure, and thinking you've failed, there's still hope. You always keep going, no matter what, and you'll get there so long as you persevere.
GO SLINKY! YOU CAN DO IT!
Play "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees in another tab and then mute this vid.
+Apo K works even better if you play this video x1.25 speed
that's the stock gym /treadmill song. I'm sick of it.
Is it wrong that I cheered for a slinky on a treadmill more than a fat person doing the same thing?
Naw it Isn't
@@k1ng4nickpolk64 What he didn't know was that the slinky started out as a fat person...
This has way more real drama and emotion than most modern television. Kudos.
Not sure why this was suddenly in my recommended 11 years later but I’m here for it
This deserves some sort of award! Such an epic struggle ever pushing forward, but never getting anywhere, and such drama captured by the music. Outstanding!!! I was sad when the video ended, because the story goes on without me!
Hi from the future
If the slinky does this, why can't I walk my slinky to the park? :-(
If you had a solar powered treadmill on wheels then you could! :-D
If the way to the park is all downhill, then you can do it!
The treadmill is on a downhill incline
Brandon Lopez
It's not just that, it's also the forced motion by the treadmill movement itself. The treadmill is doing the work, the spring is just free falling.
I am so inspired right now. The combination of the music in the background and the determination of no quit in the slinky is truly motivationally epic.
I like the fact that 4 million people find this stuff amusing, and I'm one of them
same here, the intense music makes it better
Legend has it that to this day Slinky is still moving.
I found this very motivational and I don't know why
It only took youtube 11 years to recommend the most meaningful video I've ever seen.
My hat is off to you! This epic slinky journey had me on the edge of my seat, rooting it on! Thank you for making my day brighter.
There's something to say about existence when you have watched a slinky battle through a treadmill for 3 minutes... I think we can all agree, "GO SLINKY GO!!! SLINKY SLINKY EVERYONE LOVES A SLINKY!!!"
One must imagine slinky happy...
I was SWEATING while watching, I thought at any moment the sliky could fall, every time he got close the the end of the belt my whole body tensed... but the slinky never stopped. I think this teaches us a valuable lesson
This was a really moving pice of work right here! I sat here in my chair with FULLSCREEN view. My HD Surround Sound Headphones on (Bose Subwoofer) and I cried like a baby. I sat here and teared up. Realizing tht everytime that Slinky went to the edge of the Treadmill he struggled. Then he jumped back on track. Kindof like our lives. We may not make the best decision in the world but eventually like the slinky "We" will get back on track!
I am so sorry you just read that, I am in my speech writing mode and It just came over me. PLus Im stoned.
WickedSaxy You're stoned? I'm slightly pebbled.
the whole time i'm just screaming: "Come on Slinky! You can make it! you're almost there!" Too bad it never made it to its final destination
It wasn't the destination that was important. It was the journey.
ISN'T THIS INCREDIBLE?! IT'S GONNA BE SOME KINDA RECORD!
yes
EVERYONE LOVES A SLINKY!
YA GOTTA GET A SLINKY!
SLINKY, SLINKY!
GO SLINKY GO!
I love the danger, hope, and triumph in the score to match the slinky's progress.

Legends says that the Slinky still walks till this day.
Aren't we all just slinky's on a treadmill? Slinking our way through life. Sure, sometimes we go off course and ride the edge of life a little too close ... but it's during those close calls and our ability to slink back from them that define us. So, I say to all of you... slink on, my friends... slink on.
10 years later I'm still watching this god-like feat of humanity.
Slink on, gentlemen. Slink on.
1:07 for a moment there I thought we had lost a brave comrade. But alas, he picked himself and soldiered on, all the while knowing that he is losing this battle, yet never giving up.
This slinky is truly an inspiration.
Why alas?
When are you going to release the sequel?! I need closure!!!
So...will it take off?
I’m watching this video 11 years in the future. I loved it!!! Never give up!!!!

I admire it's determination to get to the bottom of the treadmill. An inspiration to all of us.
"The slinky that could" should be a movie about this
I don't know why but my eyes got teary.
I bet because of the music my mind was like: What if the slinky was all like: Must Go On!!! The music did it's job tho.
