Thanks Steve, These little receivers are really good value for the money. Great sound in a small package. I have one more in the cue for repair, should be coming up soon on the channel
Ive got one of these. Headphone out proves fm and am is fine. 1/2 volt dc at speaker out so something is wrong . Tried the bias adjustment trimming pots and no change. Ill keep trying but at least dont need to worry about the RF stuff.
@@TrevorsBench HC isn't a bad brand. Some designs are very good. Have a stand alone radio receiver a very nice Harmon. But dated there isn't any good radio all digital and very narrow bandwidth. Now I recapped a sansui A60. But somehow a resistor is failing after a 2 min begins to smoke. There was a 2sb528 smoky too, replaced that one but a resistor is failing now, there must be a high current.
@@Dutchamp What are the part locations of those components burning up? I'll have a look at the A60 schematic & we'll see if we can figure out what's going on
@@TrevorsBench Thx Trevor, I made one mistake with schematic A60/A80 that's the wrong manual. A60 is very different. Anyway original Tr 604 was heating up with smoke trails killed the power but still was ok. I ordered another transistor but was viewing the wrong drawing. Tr604 is a 2SA992 replaced it with a bigger somehow failty one 2SB528.but have put it in the board right way B E C I have checked it 3x before powered up. The resistor that already was failty is smoking again. Must be high current over R606. I must say I'm better off with tubes much easier and can handle much more harmful abuse🤗 Replacement for 2SA992 would be 2SC1845... Aliexpress 😉 the problem lays at E F 4 5 area of schematic A60 in psu after the rectifier and the big electrolytes 4700uf 50v... Replaced those with 4700 63v tomorrow make a quick voltage messuring
@@Dutchamp Hold on. a few things you wrote don't make sense. First, the 2SA992 is a PNP transistor with pinout ECB. the 2SB528 is also a PNP transistor but has a different pinout of BCE. If you look on the right side of the schematic there is a legend for all the transistor pinouts. Also, the 2SA992 is PNP but the 2SC1845 isn't a replacement because it's a NPN transistor so don't try replacing a A992 with a C1845 because things will smoke. The area of your problems appears in the power supply. There are 4 series pass transistors to provide a regulated +/- supply for other parts of the amp. Tr601, Tr602 make up the +23v and -23v supplies and feeds the phono stage amps. Tr603, Tr604 make up the +13v and -13v supplies and feeds IC601. If you check with a VOM and a voltage is missing from any of these 4 supplies, you'll know where to focus your efforts. This can be tricky because a short down stream will kill the supply voltage and possibly smoke the transistor too from over current. If you find the regulators Tr603 and/or Tr604 is being shunted to ground, you may have a defective IC601. Also check all the 600 series resistors for opens or wrong values. Open electrolytics could also be a problem here as well as the two zener diodes ZD601, ZD602 At this point I suspect IC601 is the root of all your problems (and possibly more), especially if you've been swapping Tr604 and it didn't help matters.
Very impressive display of patience coupled with persistence. Well done!
Worth it what a lovely little unit, can listen to this era's receivers every blessed day. You are a enabler that's for sure.

Wow, what persistence ! Nice Job. Always learn something with each of your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks and thanks for watching

I have a 230A and it’s works
very well to this day.

The effort you took with the 1:1 transformer, respect that.
I would solder out all recaps and turned the HC to the bin.😂
I don't give up easily. I'm listening to the 230 right now and I say it sounds really good for what it is
