This is a relatively new technology and we already have a random cheer mother trying to sabotage her daughter's rival cheerleader. A lot of people don't seem to grasp how dangerous this is.

It’s not new technology. The gov has had access to this type of manipulation for years. Mostly everything you see is computer generated. A good example: NASA’s images on Instagram, UA-cam, etc.

The thing is, this isnt a new tech. Its not new at all. Its been around for years now. The military has had it for a little longer, but the private sector has had it for years and years now. The other thing is, that its easy to detect deep fakes. Especially if its done by amateurs. So..... unless you really think this hispanic lady is a government or hollywood level deep fake creator, these videos would be fairly easy to see if they were real or not. If not, and its suuuuuuper well done, then the digital forensics groups are well aware of deep fakes and are pretty skilled at finding out if they are one or not. Just gotta get someone to look at it at that point.
What im saying is... You can counterfeit money. You can counterfeit paintings and art. You can counterfeit a lot of things... but all of them can be detected as real or fake, but it takes one hell of a skilled person to make any of them worth sending to forensics. Catch my drift there?
I think this girl and her mom are pinning this one someone else because her daughter fucked up and got caught doing something that could jeopardize her roll as a cheer leader... which would jeopardize her possible scholarships to college. Whats the best way to get out of trouble other than to say it wasnt you? Except... theres video and pictures... sooooo... DEEPFAKE IT WAS A DEEP FAKE!

The way this technology is created, you already have a countermeasure. To train a deepfake AI you create two AI's. You train one with the goal of generating deepfakes which the other cannot detect and the other to detect the deepfakes generated by the former. The better one gets, so does the other. but if one is lacking, the other doesn't improve.
