    I had my pond for 23 years and the Oase 12000 round version lasted 21 years, with 24/7, 365 days of the year use. My pond was a natural pond with plenty of gunge to remove. This was with a 5 year guarantee! Needless say purchasing a replacement by Oase was a absolute no-brainer decision. Very pleased with that durability.

    I love this pump! It comes with a cord and you just plug it in... it runs and runs with no problems and no maintenence. Give me just the right amount of water fall.

    And not attacking you personally. I love your work, follow you on UA-cam, and am a bit of a fan. This is just my take on a subject that really affected the industry.

    An outdoor socket or switchbox rated IP56 or higher is fine to either plug in or wire into. In the UK, outdoor appliances do not come with plugs as they ideally need hard wiring to an outdoor switch box.

    Fine video und the next pump will be an Oase 6-8ooo. I have seen them many times and know they are worldwide and very fine products! Will keep an eye out for any imprvmts. like a UV light or big filter all in one.

      Yes the pond world needs a decent quality all-in-one filter which can shift a good amount of water since most of them give a feeble dribble down a cascade - only problem there is the potential size of the thing so I always reckon for medium to large ponds its better to have the filter outside the pond.

    I never said anything about the quality of Oase. It's a great manufacturer. My beef is with their integrity as a manufacturer. Many of us were left holding the bag when they left North America. You can say the same thing about Nearly every advancement technology makes. I recommended Oase to my customers and when they left, you can't say that there was some credibility at stake for that recommendation. Again, great product. Great quality. Poor ethics in my opinion.

    Hi mate, would the satellite inlet be suitable for drawing water through a retrofit bottom drain, as well as the pump also pumping out to an external box filter via the main outlet? Thanks very much 😁

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  6 років тому +1

      Yes you could draw 100% of the water through the adjustable inlet and feed water out through the outlet. If you had a pump of 8000 lph or over you could probably draw through the retrofit drain and also through the main pump housing so water was drawn from 2 place at once.
      Use at least 32mm diameter pipe to link inlet to bottom drain, ideally 38mm as that will allow most water through with least resistance.

    in the video they talk about setting 0 and setting 4. you can use the skimmer or the ground setting. my question; are there more settings that enable you to use both at the same time? we would like to run the skimmer and also remove debree from the bottom of the pond.

  • @stevetaylor8446

    My mate bought the 8000 with the slimmer Oase skimmer, being told that they would work together. Very hit and miss with the skimmer....we have been hard at all day, trying to get it to work as well as in many videos online....even on the 4th setting, it didn't perform as well as demonstrated on other ponds. The supply to the cloverleaf filters was great, just the problem with the surface skimmer. Thanks for yet another great video dude....we need things like this for input. Best wishes

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  10 років тому

      When using a skimmer you have to use the larges connecting pipe available which would be 38mm (1.5") and keep that pipe as short as possible to get maximum suction but it should suck no problem from a 8000 pump. Often the skimmer needs to be set at just the right height with the collection basket locked into riser pipe which will allow the collection sleeve to rise and fall freely. I sometimes find that adding a small heavy stone in the bottom of the collection basket will allow it to stay down and the sleeve to slide more freely thus making the skimmer work better.
      Thanks for watching and appreciating my videos.

    • @stevetaylor8446
      @stevetaylor8446 10 років тому

      Thanks for the reply buddy. Yeah, he is using 38mm pipe, the length of the pipe from the skimmer to the pump is around six feet. The riser pipe was flowing quite freely, yet there just wasn't the vortex action going on, as many other videos have shown (their videos seem to be showing a water down the plug hole action, yet this was hardly doing anything), except when on setting 4. Even the 4th setting should have been pulling more than it appeared to be doing....would expect this result on the 1st, or at most the second setting. Shame Oase didn't think of the weight issue in the basket beforehand, rather than people purchasing the pump and skimmer at a considerable cost, only for us to have to weight the collection basket down with a pebble eh ;) Have sent my friend this message, will see if your useful tip works and will let you know! Best Wishes, Steve

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  10 років тому

      Steve Taylor Only other thing I can think of is to ask him if he has cut the hose tails (where connection pipe fits to pump and skimmer) back to the 38mm point as if he has not the pump will be trying to suck through a hole under 1" diameter. That may sound obvious but you'd be amazed how many people don't cut those fittings back to the correct place when installing a pump, filter or skimmer.

    • @stevetaylor8446
      @stevetaylor8446 10 років тому

      Haha, funny you say that.....he hadn't at first, so I took a Dremel to the remaining lip on them to increase the water flow! Still no joy though :/ Still, will defo let you know about the pebble in the basket trick goes! Best wishes mate!

    Pondguru, I have watched all your videos and used them to make my first waterfall, cascade and pond. I did purchase Oase pump and filter. Im in the US and got it from Amazon. I have a question...can the flow speed of the water from the pump be adjusted? In other words, the flow coming out of my waterfall is a bit heavy for my size waterfall and would like to sow it down a bit. I haven't seen anything in the instruction manual for Oase pump that tells me if I can do that. Any help would be much appreciated!

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru  10 років тому +1

      Easiest way is just to put a tap / restrictor valve in pipe between pump and cascade to set the flow to the correct level. As long as you don't throttle it down to a dribble it will not affect pump service life.
      Glad you enjoy the videos - thanks for watching.

  • @pondguru

    I'll ask Oase why they left the US. I didn't even know they had a base there as all the US pumps I see on youtube seem to electric guzzling monsters. I assumed all the Oase products were imported by retailers. I suppose they are now - lol

      I don't think there is a dealer in SA but maybe one of the online sellers will ship there: geni.us/3v3p
      That link is for the 16000 pump but the same seller has other sizes available.

  • @pondguru
    @pondguru  11 років тому

    Shame they pulled out as the US market is 10x the UK one. With the high cost of our electricity, low running costs of the Oase pumps and 5 year guarantees they have a reasonable market share but the main players over here are still the suppliers of cheap crap which only last a few years. I've turned down jobs where people want me to install rubbishy pumps and filters they have bought for the project. I just tell them to do it themselves - lol

  • @pondguru
    @pondguru  11 років тому

    Its hilarious to see the aqua surge pumps use a copy of the swivel outlet from the first aquamax pumps. So many pumps use these fittings now but you'll notice the newer aquamax don't since if set at 90 degrees they can cut down flow by as much as 15%. Inlet isn't diffused either (no wildlife protection). Still no pumps anywhere near Oase for quality, low running costs and reliability in my view but hey, man you're entitled to your opinion. The last thing I claim to be is an expert.

    Not too thrilled with this pump. Who wants to get in their pond and have to adjust it? I think Aquascape knocked it out of the park with their remote controlled adjustable flow aqua surge pump. Oase blew it when they left North America unannounced in 2009. They destroyed their dealer base, devalued product that was on the shelves, and made dealers out to be uninformed. We pulled their product from our shelves and it will stay that way.
