The older gentlemen were having the time of their lives at this Yatai. Oh, to be able to live in a country that celebrates life and food. It is so refreshing to hear younger people speak so highly of their parents. Grandpa is a gem also.
I like the son. The way he thinks. He's not ashamed of his father. Like some brats from where I come from. He admires his father. &,he works with him. I wish nothing but, success to both; father &,son.
I think you shouldn't judge those who dislike their parents. He just happens to have a good dad who has Brough him up with love , And japan is huge on "respect your elders" as well .
I've visited this yatai! The older men (like the one dancing) are similar to the guys who got me totally wasted and bought me ramen near Kushida shrine. This was my second day in Fukuoka. Cheers boss. Haha.
6:59 The excited old man with the fancy haircut, he needs his own show, now!! I would love to travel the world getting hammered with that guy, he seems like he's a whole lotta fun. Everybody needs someone like him in their group, he keeps the party going i bet.
Everything looks so delicious and well presented as if they were from a top class restaurant. What's even more interesting is that the chef despite having had ten drinks still can cook like a master chef, and if I go to Japan this year (been there a few years back and enjoyed every bit of it), I'll be visiting his place every day I'm sure, haha!
I have watched four or five of these yatai videos.Every time the food looked so delicious and freshly prepared, with personality by the chefs.A real pleasure to watch, thank you for posting.

I love this tradition!! I hope I can one day go to Japan and experience one!! I'm From Australia and have always wanted to go to Japan. Nearly got to when I was 17 in 1991, I was going to travel alone and go to a friend of mine who was an exchange student from Tokyo. Plans fell through so couldn't go. I was devastated!! I trained in Ju-Jitsu for many years and it was before the internet so I couldn't just look up stuff online about Japan. Shinya helped me greatly understand Japan and the customs and the language. I really wish I could have gone.
Thanks for watching and for your comment! Such a pity you didn't make it last time you tried, but hopefully you will be able to visit Japan someday in the future!!!
To me, the Yatai is more about the atmosphere, the interaction and the friendliness. Especially when alot of people are far away from home, alone working in another city, people need tend to look for that homey feel. A place to relax and chill after work.

Something tells me that diners go there not just to have food but to have auto drinking buddies. This is a must to have place, cheap food and drinks but the atmosphere is lively.
Much love and many blessings to your family…..to the young one, be happy with a job well done whatever field you find yourself working in, as you said, there is so much to do out there. You will do many things…enjoy each. All that beautiful food has made me hungry! I’m going to cook a pork belly and green onion omelette for my wife…I will add hoisin sauce for a topping.

As an American I love these Yatai shops. In Oklahoma where I'm from "Support local business" is the go to. It's a tight knit community that gathers together and helps places like this. I sure hope his son reconsidered his career. And I hope he pushes to following what his father does. He will live a happier life than if he works as a salaryman. Worked as one most of my life and I never have found happiness in them or money. I want to visit Japan and try this place one day! ❤ Much love and prosperity from America.
Yes not sure why the son said you can’t inherit the license to run yatai from parents anymore. Unless it’s a local ordinance issue the direct family should still be able to inherit the license to operate the yatai. They have even started to allow limited licenses for new yatai. I believe you can only receive salary from yatai if you own one (no side gigs allowed) so maybe he thinks he can make more money as salaryman
It seems like such a shame that the son is not allowed to inherit the yatai from his dad. The system should encourage small family-run businesses like these to thrive especially when they have to put in so much work every day to keep it running.
The main reason for this is, that there is only limited spots to run Yatai in the city, but the government still wants to give anyone who would like to run a stall a chance, and prevent a system where you have to be 'born into' a Yatai family to run a stall. If stalls would be passed on over generations, there would be no spots for new people to open new stalls. It might sound harsh, but it's a system to prevent nepotism and ensure diversity.
