If anyone got confused like Momo lol, heres a quick explanation.
She's talking about 'school age', as in the grade/year that you are in school. Since the cutoff point of a school year is at September, anyone born between September of the year and the August of the following year fall into that grade/year. Momo, Sana, Jihyo and Mina were all born in the same academic year. So its kinda weird to call someone in the same grade as you as unnie.
Correction: the exact months would be different since Japan and Korea school years start in April and March respectively, but all four of them would still be in the same school grade/year

Momo explained it clearly and with logic. That's why she has said to have hard time being affectionate with same school-age members, but no problem with the youngest ones.

Momo probably just have slight problem explaining it. The culture of Japan and Korea is very different. Korean really emphasize the age difference in their language formality down to the weeks, days and even hours. Japan on the other hand care more about their relationship closeness and setting (school, work place, people you didn't know) more than age
But it’s also because Mina is born in March and the school year in Japan starts in April; even in Korea it’s OK to consider same age someone who is in the same school year as you (look at IVE for example). I think if Mina had been born a few months later they would have respected Korean convention since they live and work in Korea.

what are you on about? Korea does not emphasize age difference to that degree. You have no idea what you're talking about. Korea's honorifics are very simple, but people like you seem confused. It works exactly how it would work in any country. You're older by birth date? Okay, but same grade in school? You guys are friends and not considered with any honorifics. That's how it works in any country that has or doesn't have honorifics. Not that hard to grasp. But some people still treat each other as just friends with no honorifics based on their own relationship and history. Formality down to weeks, days, and even hours? So there are only 4 school years: Na, JeongMoSaJiMi, Da, ChaeTzu.
In both schooling also jeongmosajimi will be in one calss only korean-mar/april japan-sep/oct so mosajimi will not call Jeong unnie
Nayeon was confused why Mina calls Jeongyeon "unnie" when they are same-aged friends (which they have to be, when Momo and Mina are same-aged friends). Mina explained some time that she just wanted another unnie.
There were actually a few months where JY wanted Mina to call her without honorifics, but she refused.

Just to add on why mina calls jeongyeon, unnie. If they follow the Korean age system, mina isn't consider the same age as jeongyeon. But if they follow the Japanese age system, mina and jeongyeon are the same age friends.

Simply put, Japan and Korea have different age rules. Mina call Jeongyeon unnie because before she learned that she doesn't have to call her that, she already used to call her like that. While Mina/Sana/Momo is same age friend in Japan. If they are in Japan school they will be in the same grade.

Momo is looking at it in terms of the Japanese school year (April to March), so what she's saying makes perfect sense.
ALL of Twice's 96/97 line, herself included, would've been in the same grade in a Japanese school, so their relative ages don't matter to her except maybe Jeongyeon but that's due to Jeong's "Team Mom" vibe, not being a week older

How long Nayeon has known both Jihyo and Mina may also be one of the reasons why Nayeon thinks Mina is a such a "baby"/"young one". Also, Jihyo had the LONGEST trainee period in JYP, while Mina had the SHORTEST trainee period in JYP before debut.
Jungers, Momo, Sana, Jihyo and Mina are all born within 5 months of each other.

Momo is a very sweet talented girl who can't help that she has a likely brain damage from that head injury. Ultimately, it may have been minor, but even her own parents reinforced the idea she "became dumb" from it.

When I just became a ONCE, I really thought that Jihyo is the oldest among them and Nayeon is the youngest. But it was the opposite 😂
Jihyo was chosen by the members to be the leader, so she has to be more stern, to keep everyone in check, despite her age. Several girl groups have internal problems because the leader is not up to the task.

Momo wasn't confused at all!! She actually explained super well in a couple minutes how this whole thing work, which I've countlessly researched in the past (it took me months!) xD If that live were to be made sooner, I would have understood right away! Her explanation was spot on 👌

@@Kat-y_L It's because if they were all in school, Jihyo would've been in the same grade as Jeongyeon; the Korean school year is March to March and Jihyo was born in February, so would've been lumped in with everyone born March 96 or later. In that context, she is 'same age' as Jeongyeon. (Also just looking at months, she's only 3 months younger than Jeongyeon.)

Technically, it's not about the same age, it's about the same grade(school year). The word 'same age(동갑)' she used just made things confusing.
So, 96s and 97s are of different ages, of course. But still they can be treated the same age and be friends to each other.
This whole things could be so much confusing.. The unique Korean age calculation method, the Korean and Japanese school systems, and the Asian culture, which is strictly distinguished by age, are all mixed in this situation. 😂
Someone born in 2 different yrs can be the same age, it depends on when ur bday falls. So if ur born in late 04 and early 05 ull end up being the same age and in the same grade, at least in the US it’s possible

I think i got, the school year in Japan starts on April 1st and ends on March 31st of the following year.
On April 1st 2003 Mina was six years old as her birthday is March 27th thus entering school at six years old, Momo and Sana are children born in November and December 1996 on April 1st 2003 they were the same age Mina's age. In april 2002 Momo and Sana was just five years old so they starts school one year later.

So, as Momo said she has never tought Mina is younger. At one point, Twice Private Life Mnet, Momo knew Mina is younger but Momo thanked Mina for always helping Momo as if Mina was older than her. But Mina still thought, maybe subconsciously, Momo, and Sana as her 'unnie'. Meanwhile, Sana, the only unnie to her is Nayeon. As of today the 96/97 lines are all buddies.

So therefore Mina should stop calling Jeongyeon with 'unnie'. This made me think that maybe they needed to announce it openly so that Korean onces would not think Mina as rude for not calling members older than her without 'unnie'. 😁

That was explained early on at a fanmeeting, Momo, Sana and Mina said that they were "friends" in japan, so when they were there or spoke in japanese between them then they didn't used honorifics, because in Japan they were considered of the same age (they have a diference of four months at most), but Mina usually called them unnies in korea because of a cultural thing, same reason as why she just couldn't just drop the honorifics with Jeongeon (it took her longer to drop them with her because of respect as in Korea this point is more stressed that in Japan). Obviously that started to change with the time, as they grown more confortable with everything.
