I'll never forget this night. It's a shame that we never saw the VK that won the Brisbane Inters series in 86 run a mile time trial at Gloucester Park. In a heat of the Perth Inters series he sat outside Riverlea Jack from a wide gate and rated 1:55.4. And that was as an 8yo. Imagine what he'd have run at 5/6 on Menangle... I doubt a sub 1:50 would have been out of the question
I owned and raced athe only 1/2 sister to Village Kid. A classy mare named Totara Road. Unfortunately she caught "Valley Fever" here in California at one of the dusty, sandy horse farms while turned out. Sold her back to Australia for a Tidy Sum but she never had a foal. The one foal that I had died at age 4 days. Sad, she was a very nice mare!
This is still my favourite memory of the great champion. Great to watch it again - what a horse. RIP Willie :(

great time trial for village kid 155 but if he was were an north america sulky he would gone 152 but it was amazing trial for a 13 year horses
