    I really appreciate you specifically saying "safely get into a position" and using a zoom to detail the system at 1:46 such that you do not foul the right-of-way. That's class and a great example for the public.

    4:12 That big cooled equipment box or building may look big, but you have to remember that the section foreman and a railroad agent live in there. My dad grew up in one of those when he was a kid back in the 'thirties.

    Watching in the year 2020, inspite of the age of this video, I find the information on these to be relevant and informative for people who want to know or who are curious about the stuff on a railroad or rail line.

    I believe some defect detectors also register on the PTC board with the dispatcher. I also noted locally, that the defect detector radio transmitter is very low power, only audible for about a mile. I live 2.5 airline miles from the detector but can't hear it at home, yet I can hear the locomotive radio transmitters from almost 15 miles away. Thanks for the details.

    At first, it looked almost like the detector, one on the P&W's Gardner, MA branches, being installed afer a string of Auto Racks derailed. (The wheels were already off of the track as P&W pulled them out of the B&M Gardner interchange, as evident by the pavement groove marks in the nearby grade crossing.)
    I am unsure if they might use it just so to count the number of axles of the train they are picking up from Guilford's B&M. There is also a Dragging Equipment Detector in the mix.

      I don't have to rely on making videos to survive or for extra cash, so I don't. Views should be counted by watching a video from beginning to end. That way, click bait, which most of them are, wouldn't clog up UA-cam with the trash and mislabeled titles like JT. If it can't be explained with 5 minutes it is filled with worthless content for any more than that. hnf1930 did it in 4:28. See what I mean ?

      t. hof the approach/ departure blocks are insulated from tbe rest of the rails. A low voltage is transmitted( 12-20v.). When train,enters block, it shorts out the voltage, cutti
      ng power to armature, allowing
      gates to drop & activate
      lights/bells. when last trucks clear the block, voltage resumes, armature loses power, allowing gate

    Thanks for the primer. I would like to see systems that registers defect in the railway track and bed itself. What are the levels of inspections(Preliminary to Advanced)and how often are the different inspections performed? Continuity tests, Ultrasonic tests, Radio cars, Dr Yellow (Japanese track inspection train), Track inspection trucks and their equipment. Just throwing some ideas onto your tool box. I will have to subscribe to your channel because I suspect you already have answers to a lot of this already.

      the framing that looks like a signal bridge is for holding light emitters and receivers to determine if loads have shifted out of the clearance limits or/and are too high for an overhead clearance. Places where these are common are a safe distance before through truss bridges and tunnels. I have seen and photographed what a shifted load does to a through truss bridge. The signal equipment box looks like a standard box like at a grade crossing.

    WHEN U BUILD A TRACK, HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH BEND TO PUT IN IT? HOW MUCH BEND CAN THE TRUCKS DO BEFORE THEY COME OFF THE RAIL. DO THIS DEPEND ON HOW LONG THE TRUCK IS? I OFTEN HAVE DERAIL PROBLEMS WITH MY 3 AND 4 AXLE TRUCKS [ ON ENGINES ], YES I NOW THE DIFFERENCE TWEEN REAL AND HO GAUGE.. THEY COMPINSATE WITH AXLE SLOP BUT HOW DO REAL TRAINS COPE WITH TIGHT TURNS. IS THERE A RATIO OR MATHMATICAL FORMULA FOR TURNS?

      Detector will not transmit just by pushing over deflectors. It first needs to be switched from standby to ready by an approach signal set by first 4 axles of train.

    • @toddwhitley4349
      @toddwhitley4349 7 років тому

      Yes this is a Southern Technologies "Sentry" Detector, you can tell this by the type of pyros and transducers being used. These are being phased out and replaced with newer Southern Technologies detectors.

    • @tomy6917
      @tomy6917 7 років тому

      Thank you, Todd. My territory uses the Progress Rail Mini-Talkers that are rated for our high speeds (125mph to 135mph) & set to talk on alarms only, since, they are connected via modems to our command center. I've worked with the Servo 7707 (ballast mounted scanners & vacuum tubes), 7708 (a hybrid of the older 7707 outfitted with the Servo 8808 rail mounted scanners), Servo 8808, and the CyberScan 2000 (Harmon product after they had bought the Servo Corp) which have now been replaced with the Progress Rail systems. The Servo 7707's originally had only 2 transducers. Later, advance start transducers were added about 75 feet north & south of the scanners, because, as the train speeds were increasing the 1st wheels would be missed. Adding the advance start transducers had eliminated this problem.
