What Genesis needs is more dealerships. My local dealers had Genesis sections, but that disappeared when they made dedicated showrooms. My closest one is now an hour away. I think they would sell more if they had a lot more dealers. And I don't live in a little rural place - we have BMW, Mercedes and Lexus dealers near us.
Awesome SUV. The one thing holding Genesis back is the lack of dealer networks. Their cars could basically sell themselves because they’re beautiful inside and outside, drive nicely, receive a lot of praise from journalists, and aren’t built off mainstream Hyundai/Kia platforms like Lexus and Acura build from mainstream platforms. Its essentially a ground-up luxury brand owned by Hundia/Kia but the lack of dealer networks really hurts that. Dealer networks and good service would be the cherry on top since their cars are awesome, and this GV80 is no exception.
I totally agree with the dealership part. I know people that have walked away because they couldn't and wouldn't trade their service they're getting now for service at a Hyundai dealership.
There are Genesis stand alone dealers in many cities now and they are awesome. Really great designs inspired in Korean Architecture. It's worth to visit one just to enjoy the minimalist ambient. Very different design than the Germans and Japanese luxury dealers. Hope they can up their game in customer service as well.
@@elyj.8612 Not sure what you consider to be "many" cities, but they only have 56 stand alone dealers in the USA as of August 2024 per their press release. That is no where near the competition. Mercedes has 383 dealerships, BMW has 349, Lexus has 289 and Audi is around 300. Genesis is not represented in many "dealer row" areas in many major markets. They have a long way to go.
Nothing but luxurious is the only way to describe this car. The interior is very Aston Martin DBX like with all the brown from head to toe literally. 81k but it has the interior luxury look and feel of a 100k vehicle. I’ve sat in this for a minute and was amazed at how luxurious it was. It has its own charm compared to the Germans who go heel for heel with eachother. Genesis is definitely benefiting from Bentleys designer. I’m also curious how well that stone material will hold up over time, it’s not something you see used in vehicles, but also refreshing to see other natural resources used to make a beautiful cabin like this.
This car was basically built by Europeans. The CEO of Genesis was the COO of Audi, their head designer came from Audi, the former chief engineer came from BMW, it’s basically a European-built car if you think about it.
@@KNRS927it’s nowhere near European.. it’ll always be a knockoff of the likes of European engineering because they can’t match the precision and class of established heritage brands from other countries. And while their designers come from other groups, I think you missed the context of how all that was put into place. Hyundai begged and begged for these *retired operatives to come and make their fake luxury cars look like the real deal from Europe and America. Payed them a lot of money to do so because they knew their target designers wouldn’t want to have their name attached to Hyundai. That’s why there’s no story of Genesis design or engineering because it’s all scandalous and secretive. Meanwhile, the established luxury brands wear their efforts and philosophies on their arms because it means something.
fantastic job in your review! Well done. There are many GV80 UA-cam vids out there, but my gosh you guys do a great job covering all the features / functionality with the right amount of detail.
I gotta say this new gen is super tempting. I’d still take the X5, it’s one of my favorite vehicles Ive ever driven. But this new GV80 has really upped its game. I never really understood all the hype the 1st gen got, it looked a bit awkward and interior wasnt anything special. But this new gen is a vast improvement.
I just bought my GV80 and absolutely love it. I plan on owning it for 10 years and the warranty is what tipped the scales for me vs. the German rivals. Air suspension always leaks. Electronic suspension doesn't.
Yes and no, lol. They have been sending over the air updates in phases and several owners have gotten it, but I haven't received mine yet. It's supposed to happen "any day". Waiting patiently...
The AC Shutting off at every stop is Craziness..... i don't know too many Women who are going to go for that....also the gas mileage is alittle bothersome to me. No doubt its a Handsome looking car 😍
I wouldn’t say that GV80 is the X5’s closest competitor. Even though I’m not a fan of those larger horizontal screens the GV80 has a far better interior than the X5. But it really doesn’t measure up to the X5 as far as performance. The closest competitor as far as performance is the Acura MDX Type S. Even though it is a 7 seat SUV with a smaller engine and single turbo V6 it still has a better 0-60 than the GV80. It also has cornering and steering feel that is actual better than the X5 and has the benefit of an air suspension which isn’t offered on the GV80 all for about $5-7K less. Bottom line it depends on what you want. For luxury the GV80 is ahead of the X5 IMO but its handling and speed doesn’t quite measure up.
Please do an eight day test so that you could be ready for when Apple adds Sunday Plus when they own the entire earth. This may boost sales for their plus phone line.
If you seen how long these sit on the lot. Right next to Jeep and 10 below the US average. No one's buying a vehicle with questionable reliability, service and no real dealership network. Not to mention their track record. Looks good tho 😂
Love it! I drove a 2025 GV80 2.5T with 19" wheels and found the suspension very soft. Did you find this to be the case with your 3.5T Prestige? Weirdly the Palisade Limited with 18" wheels was perfectly fine.
Problem with air suspension is long term reliability goes down almost always. Rather have GMs magnetic ride control or a good tune steel suspension with frequency variable dampers. But I agree a mild hybrid is definitely necessary. 20mpg isn't that great but it's also not the worst. Someone dropping 80K probably doesn't care THAT much about mpg and costs lol. They could just get a Model X if it really is a problem
They need to get on par with BMW and their ability to provide 0-60/engine performance without sacrificing MPG. My moms Escalade gets the about the same MPG and same 0-60 but it’s way heavier
High depreciation rate on those vehicles, coupled with no dealership network, and poor resale value, makes these vehicles not a very wise choice to buy new. They look nice though, but that is not enough.
If you care about resale, you shouldn’t be buying a luxury car. If you’re very price elastic, Toyota will happily sell you a Highlander or Honda will sell you a pilot that’s 60-65% the price, also has leather, is also nice inside, and what not. Worrying about resale on a luxury car is like a Corvette owner worrying about fuel economy.
This thing is absolutely beautiful man. Is it perfect no, but no vehicle from any manufacturer is. I just wish Genesis made a bracket for the front license plate to be placed lower beneath the grille if you have to have one at all. I know the radar is below the grill but they should've moved it to one side or have one on each side beneath the grille Because the current position of the license plate absolutely destroys the front look of this otherwise beautiful machine.
