Been left a 1995 900ss by my late father. He had already done a full engine and frame refurb. But was in the middle of replacing sprockets when he suddenly passed. Will be watching these videos a lot now as I’m planning on finishing what he started. I’m not a motorcycle person but think I will be after this project. Thanks for these videos as they are going to help me alot.
I'm picking up a '98 900ss/CR in a week. It's been sitting for some time, so it's great to find a detailed video of a complete breakdown to use as a guide.
Great video, nice and clear and no pounding music. Your bike is a 1992 MY, 1991 had white frame and white wheels, 1992 was white frame and black wheels, 1993 was champagne frame and black wheels, 1994 on had champagne frame and wheels. I have a 1992 as well, up in Perth. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing it finished.
just bought a '95 900 CR...this is gonna help a ton in figuring out where everything goes as the harness was removed along with all the airbox stuff and cables for gauges and hydraulics
TURBOBIKE Ah your welcome mate, as a fellow Ducati owner (albeit mine is just a little Monster 620ie) I am always interested in seeing and learning about how to work on such bikes. I enjoyed Andy’s engine rebuild series, let alone the Basketcase build, your 900SS should be awesome.
Fantastic project. I like the way you gave a nice simple commentary whilst dismantling. Very easy and enjoyable to watch. I have a Ducati 916 biposto and these older Ducatis are a pleasure to work on with everything being analogue.
I’m going to be glued to this project I love the 900ss’s. Yellow superlight is a dream bike on my wanted list but a 900ss or a silver fe will probably be what I end up with. Very excited about this. Starting to think we have the same taste in bikes.
We ordered a new Red superlight for a customer at our shop many moons ago. The customer came in and we uncrated it with him in our showroom....... it was yellow not red ! They sent the wrong bike out from the importer. It was love at first sight and he was happy to have the yellow bike. Yellow and carbon is beautiful.
I’ve just completed a full restoration of an identical bike here in the UK, when you have the frame repainted check the welds around the headstock for cracks and also when the swing arm is removed again check for cracks around all the welds as they are prone to problems in these areas. If your needling original parts for the bike due to parts being beyond repair let me know and I’ll pass on the details of some companies who have access to 80% of OE parts from Ducati. Great to see this classic and now rare colour scheme Ducati getting all the TLC it deserves !!!
@@turbobike749 haha, Pretty sure it takes me longer to work on the bike hahahahah - Pls keep the vid's coming. I need some input & help. - Just decided to pull my 750 motor apart and find out what was wrong with it in the first place....
First time watcher Todd and loved it. Have just started a Super Light that has been dropped and leaks oil from the crankcase. Will be following with great interest ....
Thankyou for the nice comment. I have done some more work and just edited some more footage for you guys. So happy everyone seems to like this project. Good luck with your superlight too mate.
Great channel, Todd. I'm at the engine out stage for my 1994 SL so I'll be watching closely to see if I have the nerve to go the whole way. Thanks, Mark.
i love these 2 valves.Ive done a few builds of these over the years as im sure you have, and have found just a bit more compression and a set of fcrs makes these a beautiful street engine.
The flatsides are the go definitely. We have a 900ss that we turbocharged years ago with them 135bhp (broke conrods). Then 215bhp with injection and good con-rods. Have a look through my old videos to find the beast
A really good watch mate. Really interesting, my 750ss doesn't have the tank stand and I've always wondered how anyone was supposed to do anything under there easily. Makes sense. Looking forward to the next episode! 👍
Looking forward to this one Todd! I especially liked the extra tips on fragile pieces etc. Will help if I ever get around to doing mine. Nice job. Hoping you mention or link to the businesses you use to acquire parts and clean up bits and pieces with.
Hi Todd, I've also been motivated to update my 1991 900SS. This will be the second time and I'm doing a complete rebuild, minus the motor. I've owned it since 1995. I've enjoyed watching your journey and would appreciate some advice. Can you please let me know where you purchased the foam surround on the instrument cluster/ dash for the 900SS? My 900SS has only two dials as yours does -Tacho and Speedometer. I'd appreciate any advice you may have on where to find things that might be difficult to find. Keep up the good work, its looking great, Many thanks David
TURBOBIKE yes, correct. 1992. I had a 97 750 grey frame & it was a fantastic bike. Bugger to run when cold, but fun. Well done to you for wanting to restore it!
Still into it Warren. I will upload one in next few weeks. Just had fuel tank welded up. Its definitely not shelved for ever. Im still really keen to ride it.
Looks like a great project. A set of FCR flat slides is an almost necessary upgrade. The makunis it came with are notorious shit. What did you say you were going to do to the cases again? I missed that. Are you familiar with Brad Black? "Brad The Bike Boy" he is a storehouse of knowledge on Ducatis. Cheers
Thankyou for the information mate. I plan to vapor blast the cases. Like bead blasting but way nicer. They will give the motor that silver cases look but without painting them. Its a great finish.
Hi Andy. I’ve subscribed to your channel as well. Todd looks after my 95 916 & 97 900SS & is a brilliant mechanic & bike builder. He is meticulous with his work & this bike refurb will be pretty special when it’s finished.
Chuck the RR unit for a better one :) there is an old saying "you're not a Ducati owner unless you've been riding along with your bike on fire " .... That was me in 2012 LOL
Excellent! Your vids are just really easy and enjoyable to watch. Will be watching this series with interest - Just bought the little brother of yours, a '97 600ss, thats in a bit better condition than your 900 but thinking of giving it some similar treatment. Ha, bought the 600 for my daughter for her first bike - amazing that its LAMS approved but my wife said there was no way she was letting her get on it without experience on a 250 first. So she went out and bought a kwacka 250R! Check it out here if you want: ua-cam.com/video/9cY2RlW6v7g/v-deo.html

Hi Shuvellin , yep you are correct. This is a 1992 also. I think the compliance plate said 1991 but it is a 1992 version. 1992 looks best hey !
Just awesome. Ill be watching all of these builds as im working on my 96 900ss.
Thanks and glad you like them
I have just got myself a 93' 400ss and I am HOOKED on this rebuild series!
Good on ya Josiah ! Great little bike. Not many here in Australia. Enjoy !

Glad it's a help mate. Still working on the bike. Still filming too and will do videos when bike is closer to being finished.
Looks like this is going to be a really good rebuild. Thanks to Andy for recommending your channel. All the best with the project.
Thanks for popping over to my channel Dave and glad you like it. It was nice of Andy for the sharing of my stuff. Great surprise for me.

Love this bike! I bought the same one (but with white rims) and owned it from 95-99. Rode it all over the Alps. Amazing bike!

Love yellow Ducati’s I bought New and still have a first year 748 monoposto in yellow back in 97. My favorite bike I would never let it go.
I may be a bit late to this party..but very keen to see how you get on! Episode 1 done!

Awesome idea to start a rebuild video!
Takes longer to edit the video than to do the bike 😂

Yeah its a tough gig trying to get people to subscribe thats for sure.
Love the compressed air trick to get the grips off!
Its soo good Chris. You fit them the same way too mate.
I am actually considering restoring a 92 model, excellent video!
Glad you are liking it Austin !
Shes getting into thousands of pieces by the minute.

Awesome mate. I will try and let you know of any tricks and traps I come across to help you guys out.
Great video mate, enjoying how thorough and detailed you are being with showing how stuff comes off, keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed it James. I'm actually having fun doing this bike and want to get back down the shed as we speak.
Great stuff. Love your vids. Please keep doing them. Always look forward to your next episodes.
Thanks for commenting Toby. I will keep doing them mate. They take a long time to do,, but it seems that people don't mind watching so that's awesome.

Great first episode mate. Exciting project & I know the end result will be pretty special!! 👍

Hi mate..........sooon I hope.
Original Verlicchi grips too👍
So glad I didn't cut them off Graham. I nearly did but for some reason thought they looked special.
