Come up to southern mn next summer. I got a ton of spots and live on a great carp lake. Plenty of room to tent and fish. I’ll pre bait before you come

A question I don’t recall if you answered before. When you do the “depth check” what is it exactly that you are felling for?When I try doing it I don’t really fell anything after the bait/rig hit the water.
If you keep the line taught as the bait is falling to the bottom, you'll feel and see a little thump on the rod tip when the rig hits the bottom. You can estimate depth by noticing how long it takes for the rig to travel from the surface of the water to the bottom. Great question.

I fish the Paralyzed Veterans bank tournaments our area is already chosen so how do you decide best area for carp
There's no simple answer to that, too many variables. Depends on conditions, time of year, etc, etc, etc.
