Was made aware of Mr Faddis when his playing I heard in the Clint Eastwood film " The Guantlet". Not surprising as Mr Eastwood is a serious jazz fan and plays too. Eastwood's son plays Bass and composes fine jazz as well
Yeah, but it's nice to hear a different version once in awhile. And Jon Faddis is famous for his stratospheric playing, it's completely within his character and I would venture to say what his audience expects to hear.
As a trumpet player, I appreciate Mr. Faddis showing how he can turn this masterpiece into a into something awe inspiring. There are over 100 greats who have done this song that we can see on UA-cam alone. Jon turns it into a jaw dropping event. Mind blowing.
Seriously? There is no "screeching" in his solo at all, his high register tone is excellent, controlled, and very musical. And I hate trumpet screeching as well.
I can’t tell you how many times this recording has brought me to tears 🩵 Thank you for sharing it
Faddis gives one of most beautiful solos ever on this classic jazz ballad!
A wonderful song played by the best.
The great Faddis 🥇
Faddis fires it up. Hell yeah!
WOW! Not to mention Birks, Bags, and Brown! Too much on one stage! I miss those days!!
Great!
Superb!!!

Espetacular.
west coast jazz
Pretty much ruins the mood with the gratuitous screech notes. Too bad.
