Thank you all for your comments. I have quit responding to cost requests because no one reads the answers that I've already written. So every few days I get the same question. The answer is that this building is probably not as cheap as people think. It's owned by my brother so I don't know the specifics but I believe it was around $200k+. But keep in mind that is has a house inside of it too. Another reason I don't want to answer cost requests is that its been over 5 years since this video was made and costs go up all the time. Everyone's building needs are different and companies charge different amounts. The bottom line is that you need to talk directly with a building manufacturer and a contractor. I'm sorry that I can't be more specific.

I’m so glad you posted this! My wife and I just started looking into doing a big metal building that we could put our home inside of! This is the perfect size for our needs. Thank you!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This is so awesome. I've always wanted to do this. About 15-20 years ago there was an ad for metal buildings and something close to this size was like $25,000. Then a few years later I saw a guy built his house in his hangar and decorated the exterior to make it look like a normal house. Half the hangar was house and the other half was full of toys.
Thank you so much for sharing this. This building is pretty much exactly what I am planning to build. This walk through video was enough to convince my wife to move into the shop with me, no small feat. We've watched this video dozens of times mulling over the feasibility of such a project. I think this is the most fantastic thing! That's a HUGE space, even minus the living part, and you live IN your shop? Does it get any better? I also think $200K for something like this is a steal. Now 5 years later, maybe 300K, completely finished and fitted out? Still a great deal. Starting at 6:47, is that light shining in at the end of every purlin? Some of those holes look big. That can't be good...

Hi Martin. Yes it has been finished for years now. It's my brothers building and his personal space. If I ever film a follow up video I will post it to this channel.
Do you build this type of houses in CA? We are sick and tire of wood built, we like to build some thing to last and no free lunch for termites neither.
I'm sorry but this building belongs to my brother so I don't have all the specific information. Plus he built it a while ago and there are large differences in prices around the country. The best way to get a number would be to contact a building manufacturer. The building components themselves are not that expensive but the concrete, labor, electrical, land, water well?, etc. can be expensive.
This is an Awesome & Large shop building w/ living quarters - Great Concept. I would like to build something similar to this but, maybe in the 60 x 80 x 18' range with a 2 story living quarters. Question: What kind of steel was used in this building? Galvanized? It Does Not look like the standard typical Red Iron. Would it be safe to guestimate that this 80x100 building total completion cost to be around $150,000? - Not including site prep & utilities.
Hey Larry! Thanks for the comment! The steel is the same as red steel but this company had an option for a grey finish instead of red. It's just a little bit cleaner look. The Z purlins are galvanized like normal. $150,000 might not be to far off but there are SO MANY variations in location, stie, prep, etc etc etc that I can't really say for sure.
Thanks for response. Its good to know that the builder gave you an option to paint the iron a grey color - looks much better. If its not inconvenient I have some questions: How thick is the insulation? (3", 4" or 6"?) What was the cost of the insulation? How thick was the concrete slab? What gauge steel sheeting used? (24 Guage or other?) Appreciate your help and any other useful knowledge. Thanks.
Hi Larry! You really need to talk to a building manufacturer about these things. They will know more than I do. This building came from qualitymetalinc.com .
Was really interested in using a steel building a couple years back for storage, a shop, and a house. It is now getting to the point where my dream might soon become a reality. I was just wondering if theres any chance we could maybe see another interior update. I would assume there have been a few changes in the last couple years. Im just curious how it all turned out. Love the building and congrats! Thanks!
Hey Andrew! Thanks for the comment. It's understandable that you would want an update. This building belongs to my brother and he lives there full time so I have to respect his privacy as far as videos are concerned. The building hasn't changed a whole lot since this video except that the living quarters are finished out. The platform above the living area has a railing on it now. The little room for the shop bathroom has been finished for a while. There is a workbench all along the corner of the shop where the windows are. My brother tries to keep the floor as open for use as possible inside. There is a continual stream of people who want to store things there and/or work on a project in it. It's interesting to see what new vehicles, trailers, and equipment randomly show up but it's also somewhat tiresome for my brother. Between the privacy issue and the lack of changes on the building, I probably won't be doing another update video. Sorry about that. The building is working exactly how my brother planned it and he's really enjoying it. I'd be happy to try to answer questions if you have any!
To heat it, I would use a wood boiler in the winter. To cool it, I would use geothermal. Put a huge solar system on the roof? How much do you think it would cost then?
I wouldn’t even worry about cooling the shop area in the summer. Maybe a big fan to push in fresh air, and open the bay doors. You should be able to cool the living area with standard AC systems then. Same as the winter, two big propane heaters in the bays set at 60, and standard heating in the residential area.
That's basically how my brother does it. The living quarters are heated/cooled with a standard heatpump (works well in our climate). The shop goes uncooled except for large fans at floor level. In the winter he keeps it at a very comfortable working temperature with a large wood stove.
May ask what's the ballpark cost of the structure itself? Thinking of moving to an airfield and doing the same shop/residence setup. Also what is the square footage of the living area? Would it be hard to add another BR to make it a 2 BR /1 1/2 bath? Can you do an update video? Would love to see the final results. Awesome building BTW. Thanks in advance.
I'd love to have an 80x100 metal building like that in my backyard. I have 2.30 acres of land which would be perfect for it. All I would need to do is cut a few trees down so I could have more room. I would add air conditioning inside with 3 ceiling fans and add a polyaspartic floor coating to make it look like a showroom in a car dealership which would be extremely nice.
fairly standard setup.. this is what i want.. for a house !!!!3500 to 4000 sqft for space... huge master bedroom.. with jetted soaker tub in ensuite. big living room..ahh yessss
Thanks Phillip! No update on the building or living quarters. It's my brothers building and he lives there full time. I don't want to invade his privacy by showing his living spaces.

This building came from qualitymetalinc.com .
this is really nice! awsome job! bravo!
Thank you Ruben!
My dream build. Beautiful!
Thank you!!
so glad the people doors are in.. thats good news!
+God's Country Awesome! I totally respect that and understand. Excited to hopefully start my own building here soon 👌🏼
I would love to live in something like this, but I bet it would cost a fortune to heat, and light up, or even to cool in the summer, must be nice
Maybe some kind of geo thermal underfloor heating/cooling might keep temps a bit more constant or just heat the smaller living quarters.
To heat it, I would use a wood boiler in the winter. To cool it, I would use geothermal. Put a huge solar system on the roof? How much do you think it would cost then?
DigitalAwareness geothermal is $30k+ just to set up.
Awesome! Wow! Thanks for sharing...
Thanks!!!
Do you mind giving me the specs on the your shop?
Height, roof pitch, center height, side height, etc. please.
Beautiful Beautiful shop!
fairly standard setup.. this is what i want.. for a house !!!!3500 to 4000 sqft for space...
huge master bedroom.. with jetted soaker tub in ensuite. big living room..ahh yessss
Very nice, what is the total cost if we may ask you sir
Do you have an update of the living quarters finished? Great job love the setup
Thanks Phillip! No update on the building or living quarters. It's my brothers building and he lives there full time. I don't want to invade his privacy by showing his living spaces.
no worries great set up I plan on making one soon and by far this is the best I have seen as space goes. I am making the far end as a training facility for my two young sons.
Do you have heated floors in this garage please comment back thank you
No this building does not have heated floors.
@@GodsCountry OK how much around did it cost to build this building I'll figure in for the heated floors
This is a pretty spiffy build. I enjoyed the overview. I’m not sure if I missed it or not but what’s the square footage of the living quarters?
What did you pay for the metal building with doors and windows and slab with plumbing
yeah, I'd like to know too. Please shed some light. How much?
Todd Stanley he said about 200k but it also has a house and prices go up and down all the time
Were you able to get a certificate of occupancy with the garage doors in the living quarters in the same area?
Hi George! We are not inside the city limits so a certificate of occupancy was not required.
This would be my dream, late on your video almost 2018 I love it very nice!
Thanks Todd!!!!
Man I hope you put a ton of Solar Panels and a water catching system on that beast of a building.
How much did this building cost roughly excluding land cost and everything, do you know off hand by chance?
