    I remember an older gentleman making these in the late 70’s.
    I have been looking for these for quite some time now since he passed on.
    Happy to have run across these.😊

    Thanks. I liked the bit about the stroke length and good tip about spokes for linkages - no bike will be safe around these parts now... Going over to part two now.

    The block holding the anvil is turned up with the end grain exposed.
    Turn it where the side grain or edge is up and it will last forever.😊

      Thank you for your comment. I think lasting forever is a bit optimistic though :)

    You are talking about balancing the whirligig once it is completely finished. I am wondering if you take the time to balance the fan before putting it on as well? I would think one wouldn't wish for one side of the fan to be heavier than the other side of the fan for proper operation in the wind. Thanks!

    • @scrimperuk
      @scrimperuk  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. I have not had any problems with balance on the fan, I don't do anything particular just make them with the blades the same size etc.

    Hello! Enjoying your videos! I'm having a problem on my galloping horse whirligig. Turns fine until I hook up the horse then it is hard to get started. Would you have any suggestions? Thank you!!!

      very difficult to say without seeing it, Is the cam 'locking' up? If the cam to shaft distance is too wide it would make it harder to start.

      Hi Daniel, I have done quite a few whirligig videos and I am sure I covered what you ask in one or more of the videos but I don't remember which ones! Have a look through my channel.

    Great video - I want to make a rock star playing guitar! Any tips appreciated. 🥴

    • @scrimperuk
      @scrimperuk  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment Steve. I am sure I have seen a design for a rock star somewhere but I can't remember where. I suppose you could either have the character jogging about holding his guitar or you could have him stationary and move his arm over the guitar or add a second wire having both movements.

    Hello! I am a newbie in woodworking but I am fascinated by whirligigs. Can you show how to the stand and what you use to connect between the whirligig and stand?

      Thank you so much. I thought I have seen all your videos. I see now how the stand works. Are there any other way where we don’t need to drill all the way up and screw the rod on top of whirligig?

    • @scrimperuk
      @scrimperuk  4 роки тому +1

      I have done quite a few videos on whirligigs ua-cam.com/users/scrimperukvideos There are lot's of different ways of fixing the whirligig on it's pole or support. You don't have to drill all the way through the base, I am sure I mentioned how to use a bracket instead in one of the videos?

    Do you remember where you got the steel propeller hub from?

    • @scrimperuk
      @scrimperuk  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Robert the hub is just a standard Meccano part. the part number is 24 and it's called a bush wheel they are very common and cheap to buy new or second-hand. There are also several other Meccano parts that can be used as hubs and the joy is that they have a screw so that you can secure then to the axle or rod.

      I don't have any actual plans for the whirligigs, for my German Shepherd one I found some images on google then simplified them as required. Any size will do then enlarge with you printer or PC as required.
