Because of the CONSERVATION of our environment, many german farmers that are in principle arch-CONSERVATIVE vote for the Green Party. They understand that a working, undestroyed, unpoisoned environment it a vital part basis for the preservation of their lifestyle based on agriculture.
That agri run off is having a devastating effect on some of our rivers in the UK. In one area, lots of chicken farms have exploded and the run off is causing algal blooms and choking one of our most beautiful and cherished rivers, the river Wye. I used to kayak down it as a kid on holiday and it was absolutely pristine in the 80's. It's virtually devoid of plants and animals now. Our environmental protection agency has been gutted by the government and consequently our natural habits are really suffering as a result. Then there's our privatised water companies continually dumping raw sewage into our rivers and seas to compound the problem even further.
I am not qualified to give a definitive yes or no answer from an academic standpoint, but based on this definition as provided by USGS (United States Geological Survey), I'd wager that humans would absolutely qualify as an invasive species, even to the lands of the first humans: "An invasive species is an introduced, nonnative organism (disease, parasite, plant, or animal) that begins to spread or expand its range from the site of its original introduction and that has the potential to cause harm to the environment, the economy, or to human health." It is important to note that while it directly mentions human health, there is no reason to believe (at least to my knowledge) that would exclude human on human harm I hope this helps, assuming you were being serious, though no shame if you weren't ofc
I think industrial agriculture should have been specified over just agriculture. We've been doing agriculture for thousands of years, and yet the places we did this agriculture within were no less ecologically stable or prosperous. Indistrial agriculture has changed that.
I have a major test on ecology in less than a week, so having this video and the rest of the ecology series is incredibly helpful
Good luck wats ur g.p.a.

Thank you, I have an MSc exam in conservation tomorrow, and this came in really handy!
I got the scholarship! Thank you.
I think biodiversity is intrinsically valuable because as far as we know this is the only planet with such complex life. We gotta conserve it

Got back from my Conservation Biology class literally 10 mins ago, then see your video. Guess I might as well study
I have been watching your videos since 2019 and I am now I postgrad student. Thanks a lot Dave!
Great video, a comment to support Professor Dave's video and channel.
Thank you for those outstanding educative materials.

Thanks mate would love to see an advanced class on the topic

The most serious threat humans need to consider about biodiversity loss is humans.
are WE the invasive species..?!??

Right if we weren't alive how would we know??
Yes

Kind of?

Super informative, thanks professor Dave!
In regards to invasive species, how would we go about correcting this issue? Eradication? Containment? Sending them back to their original habitat?
