Why pediatricians get paid less is pretty straightforward. A large part of their compensation is from Medicaid, which has significantly lower reimbursement when compared to private insurance companies or even Medicare.

They rely heavily on kids getting vaccines.

No, it’s because no one values children in general. The lowest paying jobs out there are ones that deal with working with children, I know because I’m currently working one and have worked with them in the past. 😊😊

We do value the life of kids less than we value the life of adults. Because if you look up any field, where the person or the individuals working with children, it’s always paid less. Always.

The last segment of this video made me smile a bit. You can still go for Peds and still make bank. It is not like you are going to make as little as your average engineer, god forbid; No, you are making 250k. xD So I kind of disagree with your closing statement, it is not that it is not about the money: it is that since even the lowest paid specialties are well compensated, people just go to what they liked the most when they rotated. Period.

Some things you might not be considering: most engineers have only a 4-year bachelors degree, with some having an additional year (master). Then they start making money. Docs have 8 years of training, massive debt, and 3-7 years of residency, during which time they make around 60-70k. The first big paycheck comes after 11-15 years of training, as compared to the engineers 4-5. It's a bit like comparing apples to zucchinis.

Agreed, Dr. Muellner. I have known for some time, that it is the fulfilment it gives them that keeps doctors going and not how much money they will make. When asked what they like about their profession, the majority of doctors have said that it is the satisfaction of making a difference in people's lives and the relationship they have with their patients and families that makes their day. Personally, I feel that doctors all over the world are underpaid. However, countries have to live within their means. Some of them may not have as much money as they would like to pay their doctors.

Peds paid less due to a hugher reliance on low reimbursements from Medicaid and simple billing/coding.
I see bith adults and peds as an FM/PCP even though peds make up 15 percent of my visits.
Most common peds visit is a well child exam or a very simple acute condition where you end up billing a 99213 for low acuity visits.
On the side my adult patients vidit are higher complexity always billing 99214 and often i doble bill for annual visit plus 99214.
Long story story shorts peds dont generate as much RVU to be compensated.
Last year i made 380,000 as a pcp but i would not have been able to do anywhere near thaf if i saw only peds

First. Any dr that is being a dr for the money first. Ummmm….yeah…
Second. If you hate your specialty but make a lot of money doing it…is that a good thing?
Third. Every med school admission question is: why do you want to be a dr. Candidate: money! Interviewer: thank you for coming in.

you are one of those people, who if someone doesn't let you finish your sentence or thought, you might get beat up haha. I am the same, the number of times my wife almost dropped kicked me because the start of the sentence and the idea im getting to are different is crazy. Im thinking Im going into pediatric something, but I still have two years of med school. so we will see.

FYI I make a lot less than what you quote for pediatricians that amount would be someone who takes only private insurance and sees 40 patients a day. The examples you gave of complex kids is misleading we have pediatric sub specialists who would take care of them and they get paid more the primary care pediatrician does have to coordinate the care fill out forms make referrals and it made our residency harder. Yes adults are valued more than children for the same CPT code Medicare pays more than Medicaid of course I would like to make more money but I also don’t want to treat someone who’s going to die soon anyway or self inflicted- obesity alcohol smoking. Kid diseases are just more interesting

Kids don't have the income that adults do, so they can't afford to pay more for doctors!

Pediatricians are paid less because children are often on Medicaid or CHIP, which pay out significantly less. Do a little research before putting up a video man.

Wrong. Nigerian residents earn less than $3,000 per annum. That's why they are all running away in droves to other climes.
