Because the people who control both parties are not the idealist voters but the extremists. Because both sides in Congress and the Senate have sold out their power to the Global Elites for a few pieces of silver. Because the industrial complex.....because, because, because.
You know, if this clip was all you knew of THE WEST WING, you'd almost think it was a sitcom. The only clue that it isn't is the complete absence of a laugh track.
It's actually amazing how many Presidents had serious health issues while in office. JFK suffered from autoimmune disease, FDR couldn't walk due to polio, Grover Cleveland had cancer and had to remove half his jaw, Reagan in hindsight likely suffered from the early symptoms of his dementia, Eisenhower had Crohn's and several heart attacks, Chester Arthur had a terminal kidney disease, Lincoln seemingly suffered from clinical depression and other physical ailments, Wilson had a stroke, and of course recently we've had Biden drop out due to his issues. I'm sure there's many more examples, but a President having MS as in this show would be relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. It's perfectly conceivable a candidate could win a Presidential election while being completely open about having it.
Why can't we have a President like Bartlet? And a staff like the inner circle of the West Wing? Intelligent people who are there, not for their own petty glories, but to make a Government.
Because when they run we call them "weak," and "soft on crime," and vote for the safe choices or the classroom bullies instead. We are the reason we have the government that we do.
lol roflmao almost as funny and fake as the scene where charlie supposably breaks past umpteen secret service agents & kicks open a door to check on lil president after a few fire crackers are popped. The acting was terrible.
Well, you can say x is typical of the democrats and y is typical of republicans. But these days IMO there is much more fun stuff that you can say about the republicans (who are apparently no longer the party of law and order, or indeed the constitution or democracy itself). Lol
He doesn’t pay them to keep track of his welfare, you dingus, that’s the job of the world-class physicians he has on call. He pays his staff to oversee and manage his political movements, just like real-world republicans and democrats do. And the state of the union just so happens to be one of the most important single actions the president gets up to, with significant consequences emanating from how it turns out.

PRESIDENT BARTLET 2024
The humor in this scene is top notch.
A few years after TWW came out I saw an article that called it a fantasy. That hit me so hard. Why can we not strive for this?

Because Democrats are too damn stupid.
How was it fantasy ?
@@rockstar-kp2jy A DEMOCRAT THAT ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING? That is why it is a fantasy.
that was before they were crazy, although the show does show them starting to slip. @@sabrewolf4129

Pretty bad when the President is proof-reading the speech and finding quite a few errors.
He's like a teacher with his red pen grading papers.

It's a tv show. Relax
