6 years later and this is still the best tutorial I have found for rope baskets. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
@@ArtsyDork I agree! Best video I've seen! Thank you!
Thank you SO much for this tutorial! I have been looking everywhere for this specific way of making baskets with rope and yarn. I can’t wait to give it a try!
So glad it helped!
@@ArtsyDork you should try embroidery thread
Omg thank you for sharing this It’s gonna help solve a problem when you want to make a mat but don’t know how to load a sewing machine ♥️
Love your explanation. I'm new to this as I've been knitting and crocheting or macrame. Now trying bowl or baskets. Thank you once again love your patience and explanation.
Thank you so much, and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
I love this, thank you. I have some very scratchy wool yarn, that is really pretty, but not great for clothing. Now I know why I saved it.
Thank you for sharing! Very well explained and resources for materials. We appreciate you!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
You did a beautiful job explaining and showing, thank you!!
Thank you!
Finally a good explanation AND good camera work!!!
I’m thinking of trying this with all the scrap yarn I have...it may look real interesting.
i remember doing this in my 4th grade class can’t wait to start doing it again!
You have inspired me to add this to my Dot Art Disc's...thank you
You’re so welcome! Thanks for watching!!!
Thank you! I remember learning to make a bowl like this in Jr High a gazillion years ago but had forgotten the process. 😀
I loved your tutorial, thankyou. Ill give it a go following your steps. Cheers.
Thank you so much and good luck!
You’re a good teacher :-)
Thank you!
I love it. Brilliant.
So helpful!!! I did a project similar to this in college, but with fibre rush and natural raffia! Looking forward to trying it with yarn instead, and this was a good refresher! (it's literally the same process, but we used different materials in my crafts class lol) Thanks so much for this!!!! ^___^
Thanks for watching! 😊
Really nice work. Thank u so much for sharing.
Thanks Uma! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you 👍❤
You do beautiful work!!!
Awe, thank you!
Quick question... can a person wrap a bunch of the coil before starting the bending and sewing process?
I would imagine. You would just have to wrap over the initial wrapping when you formed it. That might help to cover more of the cord though, and it would add texture. Good luck!
I think this would be a good use of yarn upcycled from sweaters that are not wearable anymore!
Another skill to use up left over yarn Whoo Hoo
You can also tapper the cord with scissors at the beginning as well as at the joint. 🇨🇦
Great idea! ❤️
You can do the same with Raffia and Pine Needles!
This was a great tutorial! You have the skill of teaching. Subbed! Possibly a dumb question, but could I just wrap the rope first and then sew it together? Would it be less sturdy?
Thanks so much! I’m sure you could do it that way but you’re right to think that it might be less sturdy. You might need to experiment. I have never tried that way myself so I’d love to hear how it goes. Good luck!
yaaay! just how my granny taught me. cant wait to start mine. any suggestions to create a vase shape with lid?
You just need to gradually angle the coils in and then out. Create another "bowl" for the lid. You can turn it upside down and it will fit over the top or it could even fit inside the lip of the vase, depending on the final vase shape. Good luck!
@@ArtsyDork awesome! I am so excited to get it done! thank you
i have made these i recommend the 8 wraps 2
stitched method
Another way to end the basket is to taper the end of the rope with scizzors and continue the wrap.
That's a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing!!
I love this and love your teaching style! Does it matter how thick the rope is….or what type!! Thx sooooo much!
Thanks so much! Oh gosh, wouldn't you know it's been a while since I posted this video so I'm not exactly sure of the width, but I think the widest was a little shy of an inch and the smallest was around a cm thick. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Paylaşımınız için teşekkürler, çok güzel bir çalışma, dilinizi bilmediğimden önemli detayları anlayamiyorum, Türkçe alt yazıları açarmısıniz?
❤❤❤
Could you estimate the length of cordage per bowl? Thanks so much!
Depending on the size of the bowl, I'd say around 4-8 yards. You can also always add on more, so you could start with around 3 yards and see how that does.
maybe you can taper the end of the rope to have a smooth transition while weaving.
I made one in school 3 years ago (Art Class). Mine was a dark purple and light purple but my dog chewed it up and broke it.
V good
What mm of the chord we have to use
What kind of cording are you using, and where can one purchase some?
Also, how much did you give each student?
Hi Dana, It's called coiling cord and you can purchase it here: amzn.to/2CW3heq
I had students start with four lengths that measured from hand to hand with their arms outstretched. This wasn't an exact measurement of course, but it was a good amount for them to start with and then they could add more as they went along. For a class of 24, I usually ordered four big coils of cord and usually had some left over.
I love your video and have been working on my first bowl. I have noticed that the bowl can easily be manipulated to flatten or make a bowl? Is that typical or am I doing something wrong?
Hmmm, I’m sure you’re not doing anything wrong, but it does need to be an extremely tight wrap. It also may help to increase the frequency with which you wrap over two. I hope that helps and thanks for watching! :)
Faire un panier avec broche et jute
I love your scarf. Is there a pattern, what yarn did you use?
Thank you so much! It really couldn't be easier. I just knitted both sides (no purl) and I used a slightly textured colored yarn with flecks of other colors. It was a while back, so I'm not sure of the brand (sorry) but I bet you could find a similar style of yarn at JoAnns. Good Luck and Thanks Again!
Ending timestamp 11:10
Why not just cut a tapered end at the ending and wrap it flat?
where do I get the coil??
There's a link in the video description. 🙂
