Dear Grace, you should read the original book "the Adventures of Pinocchio" written by Carlo Collodi in 1883. The source material is always better and it has nothing to do with Disney! Pinocchio is a national treasure here in Italy!
My guess is Grace says Cynthia Erivo was her favorite.

You’re like the only reviewer who said anything positive about this movie, and even though it’s not as perfect as I thought it was gonna be , I feel that it’s a good movie to watch
I just started watching Grace's review and I think I'll watch this movie. But if many haven't said good things or pointed out good things in this movie and Grace is one of the few or only, don't let that surprise you much. From what I know Grace tands to show bias when it comes to Disney.
Seriously!!! Every single one of them is I HATE IT, NOT GOOD, HORRIBLE! I'm over here watching it like ummmm it was adorable, I like it.
As an Indian we don't ask for handouts or say we're oppressed. We believe in merit. It's ridiculous how many of these so called oppressed people get handed out jobs. This is another movie. It's not just Hollywood but many other areas.
I don't trust critics anymore. I think Cinderella and Pinocchio are the best live actions to date.

Hell ya Faerie Tale Theatre!!! That’s a blast from the past. Seen them all, loved them all. Now I’m excited to watch it.
I was a bit puzzled with the new ending watching it cause I was expecting them to go home and then he came to life hahaha But, I looked it up and apparently that's from the alternate ending of the original animated film. Look it up, there's a video out there on UA-cam where it talks about it.

What new ending? He turns into a real boy in the live action version as well? Grace must have missed that part.
It was a bad try at a copy and paste of the original.
I recently saw the film. It had flaws but overall it wasn’t half bad. Still disappointed about the ending. The Monstro chase was shortened also.
I feel like you need to rewatch that ending and look really close at pinocchio and you’ll be surprised
So far you're the only positive review I've seen of this film. I just watched Dan Murrell's video on it, and my feeling is, I am probably going to agree with him more than you. I haven't liked a single one of the Disney live action films, so it's unlikely I will like this one too.
Just out of curiosity: You think watching a movie review before watching the movie, doesn’t influence your perspective somewhat?

@@NiblingoBazinga1975 Good question. Of course watching and reading reviews before or after a movie influences my perspective on the film. There are so many movies that come out every year, and even if they were all good, reviews help me decide which one I should prioritize. The decision is ultimately mine, but critics, among other people, help me decide.
But that's not the only reason I watch/read reviews. I love listening to other people's perspective. I disagree with Grace 90% of the time, but she's a compelling communicator, and for the most part I value her perspective, as I value other people's perspective. Reviews and videos essays about films, TV, and books, have helped me gain a deeper understanding of my favorite stories.
And yes, there are films for which, even if reviews were universally terrible, I will still go and watch them because I'm that invested and have to see it for myself. For eg, if House of the Dragon had gotten terrible reviews, I would have still watched it. At least the first season.
Shelly Duval's show had the best interpretations of the Snow Queen and Snow White that I've ever seen...
I would have cast gal Gadot as the blue fairy & Michael ironside as the coachman
Based on the fact that this is literally The only positive review I've seen, I think this is about to be a war between Disney purists who adore the animation Classics versus everybody else.
Applaud Grace for bringing up Shelley Duvell's Fairy Tale Theater.

So far I've managed to set expectations for movies by listening to Grace shit on them which means I'll fuckin love them (Bullet Train, The Suicide Squad, Episode 3 of Loki) but now looks like I'm also accounting for absolute shite that Grace adores

It’s good. It’s extremely good, but was always going to be an uphill battle because of the GOLDEN SHEEN of the 1940 movie.

What confuses me is that when these live action remakes get made ppl are outraged when then try to make it different from the original. But now all the reviews I’ve been seeing besides this one are outraged that they stuck close to the original. U literally can’t please these ppl! Lol.
Sounds like this should had been what the live action Dumbo should had been by the source material than what we had!!

In 2019 i did travel, and was in the house of the original write of the book Pinocchio. In Italy. They even have a theme park of Pinocchio

From what I saw he does, but it’s so vague on how they do it, it’s hard to tell, also they made animated when he’d turned human, like no joke didn’t even look proportionally human, looked more like an animated human

The True Story of Pinocchio that came out last year was better.
I don't mind the end twist but in the final scene, I wanted Jiminy to get his medal and be looking out the window at the star, mountains and scenery with the hallmark disney music. That's Disney magic right there and they totally damped it with the ending. Idk why they changed that, so disappointing.
About the she hulk Megan thing.
I feel like 99% of people and things I've seen on social media was people not liking it INCLUDING the ones who were suppose to be represented.
"I feel so represented, thank you dinsey, if not for this I don't know what I would have done" that is IRONY. I've you see people thanking representation about that she hulk thing, compared to the bigger picture it's not a lot of people.

I totally watched "Shelley Duval's Fairy Tale Theater" in the '80s!!!! I'm a bit older than you so I can't believe you remember that! It was so great!
Grace pretty much always says positive things about the movies now. I think it's to be nice. But then you walk into these films and you feel bad there not. It's pretty bad experience for viewers

This reminds me of the fairy they talk about in Artificial Intelligence. I know A.I. refers to Pinocchio into being a real boy too but it's use in a remake still reminds me about different takes of the concept of fairy.
And then you said that you didnt really like the original Pinocchio all that much, and I questioned everything that had gone before...

I have seen recent pictures of Hanks and I am worried about his health
This film is kind of a “thank you” to the animated classic much like Peter Jackson's King Kong. It does manage to provide the story with different layers that weren’t included in the animated film but still manages to sprinkle many nods to the original and a few Easter Eggs if you’re lucky to spot them. Tom Hanks is delightfully charming as Geppetto, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is lovable as Pinocchio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is enduring as Jiminy Cricket, Cynthia Erivo is magical as the Blue Fairy, Keegan-Michael Key plays Honest John with Shakespearean flair, Lorraine Bracco as Sophia the Seagull is a cute little addition and Luke Evans is deliciously diabolical as the wicked coachman. It manages to include some of the iconic song from the animated film including the Oscar winning When You Wish Upon A Star sung by Cynthia Erivo. But it includes some new songs including a nice villain song by Luke Evans
Like all his other work outside of the LoTR franchise PJs King Kong was terrible though.
Grace, love your show. But Megan Thee Stallion twerking in She-Hulk is by no means cultural representation. 🤣 😂

I loved it! So happy to see the donkey scene and Monstro scenes. And when Pinocchio turned human in the end was so beautifully done.

Geppeto’s clocks were distracting actually. Why are they Disney properties? It took me out of the movie a couple times.
So excited to see Guillermo del toro's Pinocchio and see if it's any better than this one.

Seen it, enjoyed it (although it cannot beat the original). Gotta be honest tho, I may know the original by heart, but I by no means expected Geppetto to be seemingly killed, or Pinocchio begging him to not die. Or even Pinocchio HUMMING THE THEME SONG. IN TEARS. I loved it tho. I even knew right from the beginning it was based off on the alternate ending of the original Disney classic.

Just watched it, absolutely loved it. It's so surreal seeing all these iconic scenes being played out for real. Very surprised they kept all the darkness of the Pleasure Island scenes.
Just saw this and thought it was very Disney and very much for kids. That said they kept it sweetie, sincere and innocent on purpose. Not problem for me on that choice. I agree it was very charming and story book like.
The Queen died when she saw the black fairy.

I was so excited to watch this but until you said just a few bars of the songs and give a little whistle isn't there i don't want to watch it now. Such a big disappointment for me this is what i wanted to see but no original songs no watch for me. There so quick to do changes to the film and the slight ending but missed out keeping all the original full songs in this such a wast considering this film looks so good in how it looks from the original and they went out to take out the music.
Don't worry Grace, they'd never touch Small World at Disneyland. At Magic Kingdom I could see it becoming a Tangled boat ride at some point since its next to the Tangled restrooms, but it'll be safe! Maybe they can update the Pinocchio ride at Disneyland with a more stunning Pleasure Island scene and new effects
