    What amazes me is how many hoarders have seemingly endless funds to buy, buy, buy.

    • @AndrogynousMIE
      @AndrogynousMIE 9 місяців тому

      Indeed! And besides that .......they most of the time live in the (once!) most beautiful houses. Not worth it at all. Most of the time they are just lazy pigs.Using the excuse of a mental disorder. EVERYBODY has to clean. It is not the nicest job but once not done for a week the mess begins.

      Yes. You are right. But better spenden the money to a cleaning lady for everyweek. She controls let the hoarder cleaning and clean someone to. So the hoarder is ashamed for cleaning lady. And open every cabinet every week.

      I used to think that too. But imagine if you are on an ok income but never went on holidays, never did any house maintenance, never went to do social activities etc, and dedicated every single dollar to buying stuff instead.

    I find it really interesting how the house can look so pretty on the outside - the green and white is very cozy, looks well kept and noone knows what is happening inside. I feel a bit sad for the house. This is such a devastating illness to have and it creeps up on you in no time. I am currently finishing cleaning up a hoard after my grandfather who sadly passed away last year but that was nothing compared to this.

    This is the first time I've seen this. So much calmer than "Hoarders," here in the US. In American version there are fights, melt downs, all sorts of drama.

    • @AKayfabe
      @AKayfabe 10 місяців тому +28

      right, maybe it’s more realistic to how upset families get about this disorder to show the anger. But I appreciate the calmer UK version though it’s equally sad that people are living this way.

    What Is Diogenes Syndrome?
    Diogenes syndrome is a behavioral-health condition characterized by poor personal hygiene, hoarding, and unkempt living conditions. It is most common in older men and women, which is why it is also called senile squalor syndrome.
    Persons with Diogenes syndrome demonstrate little concern for self-care or a clean living environment and seem frankly undisturbed about their condition or how others respond to it.
    It is thought that, in some cases, Diogenes is a response to late-in-life trauma, such as the loss of a longtime spouse or caregiver. Treatment is often difficult because the individual resents intrusions on the way he or she is living, leading to resistance and a lack of cooperation.

  • @mostlypeacefulcerealkiller2145

    A maddening/puzzling thing about hoarders is they end up walking over piles of stuff. It attracts rats & roaches so their items get destroyed. Family photos under piles of trash. They don't even get to enjoy the items they can't do without, buried under mounds of trash.
    It would be a burden for a relative to go through after the hoarder's death & they would probably just throw it all away.

Smelling that fridge/freezer without proper masks is frightening. All the hoarder shows I watch it's always the same. Angels, PLEASE protect yourselves.

      Well, I think that's the nature of these shows: they focus on the superficial, compounded symptoms and not the cause. Hoarding is as much (or even more) about acquisition of goods as it is about not disposing of them in proper time, and both have an underlying psychological reason.

      You don't understand this "syndrome" then. Family members don't have the right to just go into other's homes and do what they want. It is a fine line between help and damage to a hoarder. I have two friends who have gone through this with elder siblings...it is years long of reasoning with the unreasonable and most times if you do have an inch of success...they just go back to the way it was eventually.

      In my opinion, he is an arrogant tosser who doesn't care about anyone else beside himself, including his neighbors and pets 😡. It's one thing having ANOTHER fire and losing stuff again (poor baby was sad about losing his papers, boo hoo) but doesn't care that others could die and lose everything because of his disgusting carelessness! It's nice to be eccentric and "do your own thing" as long as you don't put others at risk. I can't believe he thinks he needs to save this board for posterity. What an egotist! He's delusional. He says there is nothing anyone can tell him that he doesn't know. That shows that he knows he's a danger to his neighbors but just doesn't give a sh*t. As long as he's happy, that's all that counts. He even laughs about having 2 previous fires and nearly dying! He acts like these things just "happen" to him, when they are his doing! What a selfish ass 🤬.

    A woman who has clearly self-medicated her depression and grief with online shopping. Sitting in the dark alone, not wanting to go home to her filthy, hoarded house, that is empty of people and love.
    And I don't think that the brother is the only autistic. Autism is highly genetic, so hoarder dad, and hoarder grandmother were probably autistic too.
    And redbeard is probably autistic as well. He has executive function problems and his meltdown was probably an autistic burnout.

It is not the most nicest job but has to be done.......by everybody. Unless you can pay a cleaner. If you are lazy for two weeks the mess is starting and slowly piles up..

      3 of us live in a 2BR apartment near Chicago. I'm 74, my husband and daughter (age 47) are disabled. I do laundry, dishes, and take out the trash and recycling.
      I sweep the floors, and wipe the counters. Every 3 weeks, the cleaning ladies come to do the heavy stuff. Is my place perfect? No. My daughter's social worker said it was one of the neatest she'd seen. Tina, Al's wife
