Yes. You are right. But better spenden the money to a cleaning lady for everyweek. She controls let the hoarder cleaning and clean someone to. So the hoarder is ashamed for cleaning lady. And open every cabinet every week.
I used to think that too. But imagine if you are on an ok income but never went on holidays, never did any house maintenance, never went to do social activities etc, and dedicated every single dollar to buying stuff instead.
I find it really interesting how the house can look so pretty on the outside - the green and white is very cozy, looks well kept and noone knows what is happening inside. I feel a bit sad for the house. This is such a devastating illness to have and it creeps up on you in no time. I am currently finishing cleaning up a hoard after my grandfather who sadly passed away last year but that was nothing compared to this.
This is the first time I've seen this. So much calmer than "Hoarders," here in the US. In American version there are fights, melt downs, all sorts of drama.
right, maybe it’s more realistic to how upset families get about this disorder to show the anger. But I appreciate the calmer UK version though it’s equally sad that people are living this way.
What Is Diogenes Syndrome? Diogenes syndrome is a behavioral-health condition characterized by poor personal hygiene, hoarding, and unkempt living conditions. It is most common in older men and women, which is why it is also called senile squalor syndrome. Persons with Diogenes syndrome demonstrate little concern for self-care or a clean living environment and seem frankly undisturbed about their condition or how others respond to it. It is thought that, in some cases, Diogenes is a response to late-in-life trauma, such as the loss of a longtime spouse or caregiver. Treatment is often difficult because the individual resents intrusions on the way he or she is living, leading to resistance and a lack of cooperation.
susan is so interesting bc she seems so calm and reasonable, it feels very much like she is aware she has a condition and wants to get better herself, which is kinda rare in these shows. but i do think this is a common situation tbh, and tv only usually shows the extremes
A maddening/puzzling thing about hoarders is they end up walking over piles of stuff. It attracts rats & roaches so their items get destroyed. Family photos under piles of trash. They don't even get to enjoy the items they can't do without, buried under mounds of trash. It would be a burden for a relative to go through after the hoarder's death & they would probably just throw it all away.
This poor woman had a sad psychological problem before her cancer diagnosis. I feel so sorry for people like this. I am glad there are angels in the world who are willing to help them. But she needs a therapist too!
These cleaners are absolute ANGELS! I could not do what they do that is for sure. What does surprise me though is that they are not protecting themselves well enough in PPE. Smelling that fridge/freezer without proper masks is frightening. All the hoarder shows I watch it's always the same. Angels, PLEASE protect yourselves.
The problem with hoarders, no matter how clean and trash free they can get it, thier hoarding starts right back up. It's frustrating and sad to see that.
Well, I think that's the nature of these shows: they focus on the superficial, compounded symptoms and not the cause. Hoarding is as much (or even more) about acquisition of goods as it is about not disposing of them in proper time, and both have an underlying psychological reason.
I'm so happy that I grew up with an awesome mother who worked 3 jobs, and still managed to cook wonderful food and keep the house so clean! I love a clean and uncluttered home with everything organized! Aww, so sad that the poor lady with cancer died the same yr this was filmed, 2019! At least she finally had a clutter free home.
It’s shocking that these two cleaning women are not wearing any kind of air mask in a amongst mouse, droppings and mold, spores. Do they not understand the health hazard to themselves? It’s unbelievable.
How do they pay for all the shopping? That’s what I’d like to know. I’m just keeping my head above water paying rent and for food and my car. Shopping like she does would put me in so much debt that I’d be bankrupt.
Oh dear ...the pile of junk is so high in that first room that the cleaner's head touched the ceiling ...a real mountain to throw away ...how many garbage bags ? And how much money spent for nothing . So sad really ...
That 2-woman cleaning team is amazing!! They plow through spaces that dozens of men would take twice as long. And they leave it warm and inviting, not just empty.

I always wonder where these holders get their money?
Sometimes they're trash pickers. Most are thrift store junkies.
The way my heart drops when I see the twins cleaning the fridge without using any PPE. They really should be protecting themselves.
I watch shows like this to feel motivated during my spring cleaning.

Some of these older people are so agile (lol). How they manage not to break their necks getting around their hoarded houses is a wonder..........
And that's why being a hoarder is a mental illness. A healthy person would recognize the folly in their living situation.
