Finally someone who reacted to Letter to God 1998 exactly like me 😆 Even after track after track of just pure devastation, the slightly cathartic yet loving anguish hits SO hard!
to me the title track at the end isn’t Halsey or anyone, it’s a eulogy. Letter to God 1998 is the final moments of her, the last film reel of her life, speaking to her child, speaking to us, speaking to the world, and letting it all out. It’s the video you see at a funeral commemorating the dead, and the title track is the eulogy of the deceased. “In here lies The Great Impersonator” could be said from a third POV outside of us the listener and her the narrator/audience. It’s similar to Hurt by NIN in the downward spiral where the album would’ve ended with The Downward Spiral itself but Hurt is like the “post credits” scene
Ugh I love it so much. Her music has always been my comfort and venting place for years and now even more as someone who was sick for the last 4 years. I knew it was going to be emotional but goddamn she destroyed me with those sad, and dark lyrics and with the beautiful vocals. I think I've never cried that much with an album and the fact I got the notice that a family member died from Cancer that day didn't help it all. It just hurts so bad but it's an incredible piece of work! Halsey is my favorite and I just love her voice and music so much. She's such a great artist, creative and versatile, and she is on this album is beyond vulnerable, thoughtful, raw and painful yet beautiful. Knowing her story makes TGI hit way harder and idk... Ash has gone through a lot. I hope she knows how strong and inspiring she is. I truly wish her and her son the best. ❤
Great review! It’s good to see the positivity around this project, and I feel like the detractors of this album will later re-evaluate their views on it.
at your life of the spider review portion, and yes he left her when he realized how sick she was and he did so by driving off and leaving her in the parking lot when she confronted him about cheating which is what she’s singing about on I Never Loved You
@Keeganstromm Right?!? What really bothered me is how awful Anthony Fantano is as a reviewer and how harsh he was regarding TGI. He gave it a 1/10 and laughed at her and calling her content and the way she presents it as "laughable" & "main character syndrome". It was disgusting. He missed the entire point of why she's speaking out regarding medical misogyny etc and how a woman is brushed off as "dramatic" & his review was like...almost ironic that he reacted like that. Smh.
@ he deleted my comment saying a bunch of really mean and honestly disrespectful stuff. thought about starting a beef for funnies but- his fans would knock me OUT haha
