The start says what Muhammad did by making people pray and bow down to God 3 times a day was to brake their pride lol. Her quote by the Muslim was about not being proud of your faith over others but ackowgod God is indeed everywhere. Individual pride has no place in any religion. Imo. Many find humility in their faith, Islam or other.
'The History of God' was a complete eye-opener for me as someone who took Islam and the two other major Abrahamic teachings for granted. She's absolutely marvelous in her speech, writing and thoughts. I've yet to come across an author who's able to effortlessly unfold complex historical facts, relationships and causalities without the reader having to reference secondary materials to make sense of what they're reading.
We know our religion. But it’s so refreshing seeing someone from the outside speaking about our religion. It’s a further confirmation of faith if I am being honest.
@ldnzz It's not a confirmation of anything. Karen Armstrong does not understand history. She writes about religious traditions, not Religion. And she seems to have an ahistorical approach to learning about religion and the ideologies it spawns, and needs to spawn.

Loved your interview Karen, may Allah bless you Ameen, and how beautiful to hear you speak so elequently about our beloved prophet peace be upon him....lots of love and duas 🙏
Myself ex-christian became a muslim +3years ago, subhan Allah🤲💞🌎 i hope to read some of her books, inchaAllah🤲 Myself i have started writing a book about my relationship with Allah=God, amongst other things, events i've experienced. NO religion is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH. I highly recommend people to pray daily to God because regardless of the manipulation and/or misperfection of each, God exist and we NEED His protection from evil, as well as His guidance so as to be and remain on the path of righteousness/morality. God is 1 (i reject completely the 3nity), & we don't need intermediates, nor to be in a particular place to pray. We should use our words when praying (being inspiredby existing prayers is fine but not to be dictated/limited to those!). Last but nor least, God/Allah (it is the same word just in a different language) is available 24/7. He looks at the sincerity of our heart, not at His watch!lol subhan Allah🤲💖
I agree most of what you say, with my limited English. I also think that none of our religions are perfect, since they are "our" religion, not the absolute truth. They are not 100% isolated from our cultures, prejudgements etc. Even reading the Quran many times (especially in non Arabic languages), it cannot be fully/absolutely/clearly understood. Our effort to understand Islam, is like trying to watch a 4K video on a very low resolution portable player. So, the first thing we should do is trying to improve our resolution. In Ms.Karen's speech, I can feel that high resolution and open-mind.
@@p.c.336 i always found it hard to pray 5 times on a specific time and so i asked Allah about it and Allah tod me He is available 24/7 He doesn't look at the time when we pray, instead Allah looks at our 💖
About the difficulty in praying 5 times daily, keep trying. If your mind yearns to pray, yet the physicality of it becomes difficult for you, even if it is 1 out of five or 2 out of five you can do, keep doing and pray to God to grant you ease. Insha Allah you will find it easy and doable. The importance of the 5 daily prayers is very important in islam. It gives you the constant reminder that you are nothing compared to the majestic nature of the creator of this world. It humbles you and keeps you level headed amongst other things. I found it difficult to pray even during ramadan. But my mind was always yearning to do it and i tried my best and did ask God to grant me the easiness of doing it. I can tell you categorically that i find it effortless right now to pray, even waking up to pray everyday at midnight to do tahajud. May God grant you ease and may He guide every other person who struggles to pray yet yearns for it. At the end of the day i guess we are all work in progress. Salam aleykum.
( 56 ) Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided. Al- Qasas Aya 56

Have been following her since I finished college, almost thirty years ago. As someone who brought up in the Jewish tradition, I can see that her vision of religion is much needed in the modern world, especially if an ancient religion and tradition - like mine - need to survive.
Good analysis, I shared this clip to a non Muslim friend of mine who said almost same on Islam. Humanity's soul in the West is coming to understand Islam against all odds.
The prophet Peace Be Upon him said: "إنما بعثت لأُتمم مكارم الاخلاق" "verily I was sent to perfect good morals". He was the most extraordinary human being to have ever walked on this earth. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I guess there are still folks that believe as I believe. I perceive Islam as God's revision of the Old Testament. God definitely heard Mohammad's anguish that descendants of Ishmael were being pushed away from religions of the 7th century and needed a pathway to the promised land. I've not heard of Ibn Arabi, but his quote was spot on, and totally relates to the new religion of the 7th century.
I should thank Al Jazeera for having Karen Armstrong for an interview I have heard about her and I never thought I could watch an interview of her on UA-cam

The way she describes other religion , in this case Islam, is clear and wonderful. While the Muslim people have never seen other teaching of religions, except, the one, that they believe in it. By reading her books, the Muslim people realise and open up their minds to see it inward. Bless her 🙏

It has come to a point where Islam and Peace CANT be in one sentence.
Only Islam and Rest in peace can go together.
@@richarddawkins4607 why tho

It does resonate......
We know our religion. But it’s so refreshing seeing someone from the outside speaking about our religion. It’s a further confirmation of faith if I am being honest.
@ldnzz
It's not a confirmation of anything. Karen Armstrong does not understand history. She writes about religious traditions, not Religion. And she seems to have an ahistorical approach to learning about religion and the ideologies it spawns, and needs to spawn.

If ever the opposition of the great societies of East and West is to be replaced by cooperation, the mediation of Islam is an indispensable condition. We don’t know our religion
Always great to hear from her. In addition to her terrific body of work on religion, her memoirs, especially "The Spiral Staircase", are inspiring and enlightening.
I am inspired by how much knowledge she acquired in such a very short time. May Allah bless her.
Short time? She's been writing books on Islam 20 years ago
Loved your interview Karen, may Allah bless you Ameen, and how beautiful to hear you speak so elequently about our beloved prophet peace be upon him....lots of love and duas 🙏
Absolute joy listening to a most remarkable, intellectual lady. Undoubtedly Karen speaks from the heart, her passion is so palpable.
My heart is full of happiness to be born Islam and i really thank Allah for this privilege .... Proud to be Muslim alhamdoulillah

I love the way this woman searches for words as she seeks to express herself...every breath of hers seems to seek inspiration in her expression....this is someone who is not only highly intelligent but shows that her freedom to express herself is one that she does not take lightly....
In today's world people are often encouraged to express themselves, which leads to the empty vessels making the most news....
So what a breath of fresh air it is to see someone convey themselves in such a manner....
How I wish the youth of today could familiarise themselves with such teachers ....both her and the lecturer Roy Cassagrande have done and enormous service to helping the west understand the truth of the Islamic way

A great interview. The way she portrays the beauty of Islam is amazing.
Have been following her since I finished college, almost thirty years ago. As someone who brought up in the Jewish tradition, I can see that her vision of religion is much needed in the modern world, especially if an ancient religion and tradition - like mine - need to survive.
I read one of her books, The History of God (the title, if i am not mistaken) twice. An amazing book by an amazing writer.

I guess there are still folks that believe as I believe. I perceive Islam as God's revision of the Old Testament. God definitely heard Mohammad's anguish that descendants of Ishmael were being pushed away from religions of the 7th century and needed a pathway to the promised land.
