I bake a lot of sourdough! It does seem overwhelming at first. Like any hobby we take up, it can be as simple or as complicated as we let it. I started with the very basic knowledge and tools and grew to the point where I had my own cottage bakery. Enjoy the journey!
Ugh you’ve been my comfort creator lately! Gonna 100% read September House, that one sounds so fun. Have a good week!! 🌿💚
Aww thank you 🥹🥰
Boy Olives really going at her carrot garden. So cute.
I live in your same area, and in my experience with veggie gardens, I have had SO much more success by just being patient until sometime mid-May and just direct sow into the ground. Once it's warm enough they'll shoot up so fast and you won't have to transplant anything. Starting seeds indoors never worked for me. Good luck!
I just finished nettle and bone. Thank you for recommending. It was such a great book! Loved it
Hi Fern! I started watching you for your houseplant content, but now I get even more excited for a weekly blog. I think we have the same taste in books because I love your recommendations. I’d love for you to talk about how you get your book recommendations. Thanks!!! Have a great week.
YEEASSSS🎉 i just started up watering my beautiful hoyas and i am sooooo happy for a new, my absolute favorite, Fern video♥️♥️♥️♥️
..dont get me wrong i love your past videos, rewatch them all the time!! but a new one is always so fun😊🥰
Happy Sunday Fern!!! Thank you for being you🦋
Thank you so much 🥹🥹🥰
🥰🥹🫠♥️ sweetieheart cutie pie, melting my heart shes so stinkin’ cute cute cute!!!! Hands down adorable!!!
(Edit) im obviously talkin’ about Olive and the carrots🤣
Oh my gosh, Olive and her carrot garden 💕 So funny 😂🇨🇦
Right! What an angel 👼
I read (listened to) Part of Your World a couple of weeks ago and it absolutely SLAPPED! It took me only 3 days or so because I loved it that much!! But I’m a romance girly through and through. Abby Jimenez does not disappointed!!!
You like haunted house type books?!
You absolutely need to read Starling House by Alix E Harrow 👌🏻
Hey hey fern, I don’t always comment but I love your videos! Look forward to each one❤
I didn’t know you like haunted house stories! Not a haunted house story, but if you liked Coraline and are here for Tim Burton vibes, the Maybird trilogy is FANTASTIC.
Edit: nice fluffy romances - The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and the short story The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (both made into Netflix movies).
Currently reading: Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson and Wayfinders (this one is more for young teens but it’s cute, fantasy).
As a millennial, I relate to the September house. Cheap house? In this economy? Sold!
Oh the hauntingly are only in September? Guess when I book all my vacation time? Problem solved!
Hi Fern!! I’m curious what kinds of things warrant a tab in your books! I have seen people who have all sorts of different colour coded categories… I’m wondering what I’m missing out on!
So I did make sourdough starter before the pandemic but gave up when flour was too hard to find but now I have tried to get another starter going and have failed every time.. this last one smelled like disgusting dirty socks! 😮😂😂 Love Olive.. Have a great week Fern.. have my grandchildren tomorrow because school is closed because of the eclipse 🙃🌔 I just finished washing the bedding and couch covers because my hubby has been very sick and I just need to disinfect and LOVED NETTLE & BONES 🦴
Just signed up for BOTM through your link thank you!
I can’t wait till I get my first box.📚❤
Part of Your World… OBSESSED!! It was my first one by her and now she’s an auto buy author for me!! And I’m not a romance girlie either so what the heck lol
I love Freida McFadden :). You need to read her new book "The Inmate". I'm not a fast reader, but finished that book in 2 days :) Right now I am reading "Teacher" by her.
I read Educated by Tara Westover because you recommended it and loved it so much I trusted you to read The Search Party... and I'm starting to think you're my go-to for book recs because I'm also really enjoying that one!!
Our family chore day was Saturday and I think it was a bummer just because it was on a weekend. Also, have you read Circe?
I read the first book in the housemaid series and I was actually so disappointed! 🙈 I felt like the first half/three quarters of the book was quite slow. The ending was really good though, but I wish I felt that way throughout the entire book 🥲. Definitely adding September House on my tbr 😍. Have you ever tried the app storygraph? What are your thoughts on it?
So I read The Housemaid and the Housemaids Secret, and I'll just say there were some good plot twists I could not have imagined! Lol so good. If you haven't, you should read The Teacher, it's by Freda as well. The only negative thing I could say about these books is that she kind of uses the same lines in each of her books. Like all the main character guys have brown eyes, and she always mentions their adams apple bobbing. Lol Not really negative, just noticeable.
Okay so I have fallen off the sourdough train... I need to get back to it. My plan was to get back into it during winter cause my kitchen has terrible ventilation and setting the oven to like 500F to bake 1. is awful in summer and 2. sets off the fire alarms haha. Anyway, I'll restart my starter and I'll get back into it with you. 🙌
Watching this while avoiding housework lol.
Personally I loved legends and lattes devoured it and the prequel!! I just finished the second Emily Wildes book and had a fun time with both def whimsical some dark elements ( gotta say I love legends and lattes more but could be just caz it was my first cozy fantasy idk). Can’t wait to see what you think! There were couple times I got a little bored with Emily wildes first book but I just speed the audiobook up and it passed quickly lol
Absolutely love your vlog. I think you are really going to enjoy reading the Women. I grew up during the whole Vietnam Era and really identified with the angst of that time. It will tear up your heart and rip your emotions but I kind of think you enjoy that. On a lighter note, please do read the Grady Hendrix book How to sell a haunted house. I think you will really have fun reading it. Typical quirky Grady book.
Uhhh you chose one of jan’s wallpaper 🥹 I also thought about choosing one for my phone ☺️
The audio book sounds sooooo good ☺️ Need to check if it’s available in german ☝🏻
I'm reading Legends and Lattes right now and omg I'm loving it ❤ I wasn't sure because some of the books you really like, I wasn't the biggest fan of, but lady, you are so on point with this one😊😊
I just ordered a Paulensis! Now I’m even more excited to get it. I’ve been so into begonias lately especially terrarium ones but I’ve been enjoying them all.
Hellloooo from Russia😊Reading the One by Marrs)We have chores day on Saturdays and my sons say noooo, as you)))
If you like horror books about houses, you should check out House of Leaves! It’s a weird masterpiece
I would definitely not count Emily Wilde as fantasy or romance. It almost reads like an historical fiction but just set in a world where fairies are real. I LOVED both of the books in this series but I listened to them and the narrators were wonderful and helped you understand Emily, who i would say is likely on the autism spectrum. So if you struggle with the physical version, maybe try the audio.
Have you read any of the Xanth series by Piers Anthony? I think there are 47 books in the series, quick reads and absolutely adorable characters.
I’m currently reading Part of Your World which is the 2nd in the series. I’m almost done and definitely liked the first one better and since it’s a series maybe read the first one so you get a hold of the general context? It’s kind of a rom com in the Grey’s Anatomy realm lol but hilarious ad with wholesome yet real characters. Love that the either creates neurodivergent characters, talks about domestic abuse, childhood trauma, etc.
You might enjoy The Hexologists as a fantasy read, the characters are just so entertaining you kind of forget it's a fantasy
I don't like horror . Like I'm a big wuss I get nightmares and all. But you made me wanna read this 'september house ' you made it sound so intriguing ❤
Can we please please get a top thriller books to read? 🥺💗 i’ve only started reading thrillers because you’ve mentioned it so much in your vlogs and i just wanna read more!!
Can I tell you how much easier my life got after I stopped using moss altogether? The thing I love about the Rousseau poles is a chunky mix works great in them
My American brain whenever Fern says the temperature 😂🤔😅
I saw you at Chickpea in Vancouver the day of Noah Kahan and I was way too nervous to say hi lol! Hope you had a great time at both though!
I am not a romance girl at all, as much as I have tried and want to be. But Part of Your World was so good! So cute, and written well.
Seed starting is definitely a learning curve. You’ll get the hang of it ❤
You can sleep with the headphones on all night? I sleep on my side, I don’t tho k I could do that.
Get a sound machine. It will block out the noise.
Look at that tail go. She’s never gonna stop digging.
Did you say what this nail color is??? It's soooo pretty
What is the glass you make your matcha in that looks like a magical beaker? I love it!
That Begonia is so cool!! 🕷️🪴🕸️
Read and loved every one of them!! ❤❤❤
Omg olive is too cute with her new toy.
Happy Sunday!
I love the sweet, little, romanticized clips in the intro 🥹 especially the Olive snuggles!
41:11 aahhhh too cute 🥰
You should check out loops for noise. There is a variety of options and there is a pair that is great for sleeping! I have to use the loops and an eye mask to sleep well.
Side note: I got my pup that same carrot treat game! It is so fun to watch him digging.
Yesss I have loops! And sleep with an eye mask. I will admit my loops often fall out for me, so sometimes I use a heavier duty earplug lol. I’ve been serious about wearing them since my nursing night shift days 😅
So sweet that your doggy has the carrot game too haha! 🥕
'we are gathered here today' XD
That begonia is cool 😎
Omg!!!!! Olive is sooooo cute!!!!! Seeing her looking for treats under the her carrot patch brought a big smile to my face. Big hugs for her. I would love to see more Olive content!!!! Really enjoyed the book review. The new begonia looks so nice. Will be interesting to see its growth.
Awww thank you so much, really glad you enjoyed the Olive clip 😊🥕
Omg you have that wallpaper from Sydney Plant guy‘s video too! It’s soo beautiful 😍
Just saw that too haha
Yes! Looove this one. It’s so cool.
Full Proof baking on UA-cam has amazing tutorials on feeding/maintaining the starter and baking
Thank you!! I am intimidated by it for sure 😅
I just finished listening to the HouseMaid ..loved it ! Now listening to the HouseMaid’s Secret. And I actually read a real book, for the first time in years...Overnight Guest. It was good...but I feel like it took me forever to get into, only because my eyes are tired by the time I have to time to sit and read. But Saturday I sat on my sunny deck from 8am to Noon..and read the whole darn thing! 😅 🌿☀️ 📚 ☮️
Ahhh so glad you liked the housemaid! I just looked up the overnight guest and it sounds really good too.
My April TBRs are… Emily Wilde, Remarkably Bright Creatures and The Giver. I’m trying to re-read a kids book every month.
Amazing picks!! I looove The Giver!
I read Legends & Lattes shortly after it was released, and it honestly kickstarted me into reading semi-regularly after burnout from highschool & college required reading.. literally such a palette-cleansing book, and so so cozy (and emotional).
Also, lilacs are genuinely one of my favorite outdoor tree/bushes. You can make jelly and tea out of them, even.
The September house!!! I loved loved loved this book, listened last summer. I cried. I wonder if the narrator you’re listening to is the same one I had; the narrator i listened to made the book SO GOOD. Like, maybe even better than if I had just read it myself, which is a big ask from an audiobook!
Ahh I’m loving it so much! And the narrator is doing a fantastic job 🖤
Hello Fern ❤
I was wondering if you’ve read or heard of the folk of air series? I’m curious on your opinions of it. Personally I love it and think you may as well but I have seen on TikTok people say it wasn’t for them so I’m just curious of your opinion
I’ve heard of it, but I haven’t read it 👀 I’ll have to look into it :)
If you read How to Sell a Haunted House… I’d love to know your thoughts! I read it in my bookclub and it was wild!!!
Omg this makes me want to read it more 👀
I really enjoyed this vlog! I’m currently ready ugly love by colleen hoover, I’m only 100 pages in so not sure what to think about it yet
Ooo that one’s a doozy 👀 I’ve read it too
That carrot toy for Olive is soo cute 💕🥕 awww her little nose in the hole ahahahah! 😂 you should document how the sourdough goes, I've always wanted to learn
Righttt hahah she’s so cute I can’t 😭 and I will!! Eeek I’m intimidated, but hopefully I’ll catch on.
Olive and her carrots 🥕 😅 my little dog is completely obsessed with lettuce 😅🥬 she will do anything for it, and if I let her, she would eat an entire head at once 😮😂
Lettuce!! Hahah too funny. So cute how they all have their preferences.
the locked door by freida mcfadden is quite good!
*adds to list* haha thank you!
I read Part of Your World and I liked it (I haven't read Yours Truly but I want to do it soon). But still... my fav romance author is Talia Hibbert. Loooove her. Love her humor and the representation! ❤(especially as a neurodivergent girlie). I commented this before xD but The Brown Sisters trilogy still is my fav (especially Act Your Age, Eve Brown).
And my 1st reading for april is Project Hail Mary (sci-fi). I'm at 15% and I'm having a great time. Do I understand all the science stuff? Hell no 🤣, but I'm amazed because I still can enjoy the story and the audiobook narrator is AMAZING 🙌🏻 (I'm reading and listening).
Ahh I’ve heard good things about Talia Hibbert! I really need to pick one from her up *adds to list*
And ooo exciting, I think I’ll be reading Project Hail Mary soon too and I’m very much looking forward to it. I’m sure the science stuff will be way over my head as well 🤣
@@cozyplantlady11 I suuuper recommend the Brown Sisters Trilogy (all of it but especially the last book, Eve Brown❤) and Fern, you NEED to read AND listening Project Hail Mary, I'm at 21% now (slow reader BUT in my defense I have to say that I'm a spanish native speaker and I didn't do well with science in my school years 😅) but the narrator is SO GOOD! Last night I was thinking, this man needs like a Grammy or some kind of award 👏🏼 the inflections in his voice, the pauses, eeeeverything is just so perfect. He IS the main character and I've never felt that with an audiobook.
PS: About the Brown Sister Trilogy, I would skip the audiobook for the 1st book 😬 but the other two are good👌🏼
🥕🥕🥕😂❤
🥰
My fav sourdough recipes:
- Dirt and Dough’s Easy Overnight Sourdough Bread (my staple bread loaf recipe)
- A Chick and Her Garden’s Sinful Sourdough Pretzels (I use discard and add a pinch of instant yeast)
- The Pantry Mama’s Easy Sourdough Bagels (every recipe I’ve tried from the pantry mama has been good!)
- The Herbeevore’s Vegan Sourdough Naan with Garlic (uses up a TON of discard)
Hi Fern! Did you see The Haunting of Hill House? I know you don’t watch as much tv (or so it seems 😂) but the series are great! Hope your having a beautiful day ❤
Yes I have!! But years ago, when it first came out. I also loooved Bly Manor. I’ll have to re-watch Hill House this fall.
@@cozyplantlady11 Yes Bly Manor was fantastic! I actually liked that a little more than the first!
G'day from Australia, Fern. 🙂Great watch as always...loved watching Olive & the carrots.
Chore day as a kid was the worst, but as an adult now it's something I look forward to as a 28 year old 🤣 I need it to not feel like my house is falling apart.
Also you have fully ignited my obsession with Mooncat nail polish. I was following them before but never purchased anything from them. Now I have 8+ polishes from them and am soooo excited for their launch on Friday 👀
Helloooo Fern! I love making sourdough. It’s intimidating but I’ve found that you can almost mess up the whole recipe and the loaves still turn out delicious. I suggest feeding your starter 50% white and 50% whole wheat flour to make it more active/resilient. I store mine in the fridge most of the time and it bounces back quick with some whole wheat help. Have fun!!!
I’ve been reading Freida McFadden books, but I think The Housemaid was the best. Omgosh! Olive is so adorable 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
I’m loving the vlog! After last week’s, I started wanting to do my nails again. I used to be really into indie polishes and have sooo many, but I stopped doing that weekly ritual a couple of years ago. I just blind grabbed a polish from a box to use and it’s called “Mercury was in f-ing retrograde” 😂 perfect. Thanks for the reminder! I’m enjoying the book stuff too.
Good morning from Oregon. It was sunny this morning but the clouds have come in. Hope you’re having a sunny morning in the Pacific Northwest of Canada.
Hey what's up Fern it's Jason I hope you're having an incredible Sunday💯👍👋🙂
I enjoyed The September House!
glad to hear that!! it's so good :)
I love to peep all the other book recommendations in the comments 😊
Truly adore your vlogs. Probably my most favorite thing to watch on UA-cam. You’re so cozy and comforting but also motivating. I love love love this vlog channel and you!
Oh my gosh Olive playing with her carrot puzzle was so cute!!!
Olive's carrot digging is so funny! What a cutie pie 🤣🤣🤣
My mom had chore day. It was Saturday. But that was because she worked Monday-Friday. And all theee of us kids had our chores. I vacuumed and dusted. My baby sister did the mop boards.
Due to working nights for 18 years and my hubby who snores….ear plugs have saved my sleep life! It took a bit to get use to, but I’ve slept great since ❤
Yesss, I’ve had to sleep with ear plugs ever since my shift work nursing days. Can’t go without ‘em now, not sure if it’s a good or bad thing 😆
@@cozyplantlady11 must be a nurse thing, lol. We’ll do some weird sh*t to get sleep 😴 Black out shades, fan, and ear plugs 🥰
@@cozyplantlady11What type of earplugs do you use please? I've got a partner who snores and insomnia too so I'm getting desperate 😂
What’s ur main channel?
wildfern - it’s a houseplant channel 😊
Yessssss hello hello vloggy-vlog!! ❤😊
thank you so much for watching 🥰
Omg you’re going to love the encyclopedia of fairies! It’s one of my favorite books everrrr🩷🩷
After cleaning the weekend when your boyfriend is home the house is clean and you can enjoy each other.
I am so interested in the sourdough! The fermentation of the yeast uses up a lot of the sugar
Aww Olive 🥹🥕
Heheh she’s so cute 😭
I have a begonia cleo--theyre so pretty!
Outdoor plants want to stay much more moist is what I learned
Tha carrot game is so fun!!! What a smart girl 🥕🐶🧡
AH HA!!!!! Was that friend Alice? 🤔🤔🤔
No hahah, does she have that begonia too?!
@@cozyplantlady11 Not sure but she does make sour dough bread tho hahaha 😂!
@@marymiller5824 ohhh - that is so cool! 😃
Omg. I need some Sunday motivation for plant care. You are exactly what I need!!
Also - I can’t wait to read the women. I think it’s another 6 week hold from library.
Just got - the big Swiss. I know it’s on your bookshelf, but I can’t remember if you have read it yet. Also - did you read Tom Lake? I just finished. Ann patchett is such a great storyteller. ❤
The Women is great! I have my Dad reading it now.
Starter plants taste the same when you harvest them.
With gardening seedlings, remember that they will look much more "leggy" naturally during that first growth stage simply because of the stage they are at -- even though it's still worth culling your starts to keep only the best ones, trust that even the leggier-looking ones can harden up and be just fine once they start putting out their more mature leaves. Don't give up on them being too weak too soon (something I have to tell myself regularly!)
Also, definitely take it slowly with the hardening off process... I always try to rush it and keep them outside too long right from the start but it's a really quick way to ruin your hard work all in one go! Slow increases to the time spent outside without a lid are best...
Thank you for this!! Appreciate all the tips I can get 😊
