Hi guys, today I'm going to show you how to achieve big voluminous hair with soft curls and waves using a sock bun or hair donut. This method of creating heatless curls is fast, easy, and effective. You can do it before you go to bed at night or you can do it in the morning if you want your hair curled for evening events. I saw many pictorials on pinterest on how to achieve heatless curls with a stretchy headband but I tried that and found it difficult to sleep with. This is comfortable to sleep with but make sure your hair is dry when you do it because wet hair can give some people headaches. Enjoy!

Here's my problem: she has hair made of pure silk and rainbows and I have frizzy curly hair made from the devil's armpit. So my sock bun is just a twisted mass of tumbleweed that I'm gonna regret in the morning.

Would it help if you washed,0 blowdried and straightened your hair before putting them in a bun? Also, in another video I saw the person putting a nailon sock over the finished bun to protect the hair from rubbing on pillows and getting frizzy overnight.

Have you tried this? Does it work with your layered hair? I have short layered hair too and I don't want to be kinda disappointed.

Everyone that makes these heatless curl videos has perfect super long silky hair. I feel like if I did this I'd look like I just came out of the eye of a tornado.

Actually I have thick, frizzy hair and I do the heatless curls and they come out pretty decent. So maybe try doing it differently? Idk
I have curly frizzy Hispanic hair and can do it properly. Maybe you're doing it wrong.

I wish I could use this but whenever I have my hair in a ponytail for a long period of time, I get this indent where the hair tie was.
Yea, same with me. If I leave it in a ponytail for a long time, the place where the hair tie is starts to hurt REALLY badly.
You should try the fabric hair ties :) you can pick them up really cheap and they don't leave any kinks in my hair or hurt my head at all :)
You could always just try this without the hair tie. Just skip the hair tie step and thread all your hair through the sock bun and start wrapping it around like she shows. no indent then.
Oh_livi_ah Scrunchies are my go-to for this look! or just by twisting the hair until it curls itself into a bun :) because they're soft they don't leave an indent and are easy to wear throughout the night and day
You could also do it looser. I don't know how well this will work though!

I've tried the sock method before, but I wrapped my hair around the base in a bun to get loose curls. I love your method because the curls are so bouncy & you get lots of volume from the ponytail! :) Can't wait to try this!

I always have the same problem till I use the hair tie that looks like an old phone cord (its called invisibobble)
You don’t have to buy one with a brand name, all of them works the same
Yeah, your roots are trained to lay one way, so when you move them in a direction where they don't normally sit it can get sore.
It could be too much pulling on your scalp which isn't good for your hair. I'd recommend trying to keep the hair on your scalp a bit looser and using soft ponytails like scrunchies. If not that, then it could be if you have really thick hair and it's just too heavy which would make a low bun a better choice.

I loved this hairdo in fact it made two hairstyles for me as my hair is way to long to do a sock bun but this tutorial actually helped because I did it and it created a sock bun for me and also I came out with some lovely dimensional curls so thanks for the sock bun idea
Omigosh thank you so much!!! I don't have a curling iron, and I've tried chopstick curls, braids, and two other types of sock curls, and this is the only one that works!!! I got a lot of compliments on my hair when I did this too!
