I’m 61 and I remember seeing all kinds of abuse in my Minnesota neighbourhood. I remember when Aboriginal people were integrated into the “white” schools and how awful they were treated by so many. I remember a priest of our Catholic Church being caught stealing from the Church and simply being sent to another Church in a different state.
Waxing nostalgic for a simpler time does not change reality. It also ignores the many social and racial problems we had while I was growing up (1962-1980). Do you remember RFK and MLK Jr. being assassinated? I do. The Civil Rights Movement? Racial riots? I want better for your children, but I embrace tha our childhoods had plenty of warts as well and ice cream cones.
@davidellis4084 Yes, I agree it wasn't all sunshine. My mind was trying to say that in the 50' s and 60s, we didn't have the distractions of video games, the internet, etc. We had community and guidance from many. We had to use our brains to figure things out. I am not downplaying or ignoring the reality of the world stage then or even now. I am not niave, I remember very well the day President Kennedy was shot ( those images are vivid still) I remember RFK being shot, and MLK shot, I remember Kent State protest and seeing on TV in my senior year Govt class watching in horror. I remember riots in the bigger cities. I lived in Oklahoma as a nurse in nursing homes, the stories of horror the then grown-up little girls told of being sent to schools to re educate them and force them to speak English. I remember holding them while they cried at night and giving them what comfort I could. I remember a nursing assistant tell me about her grandmother running away from one of those schools where her family kept her safe in a tiny cabin in the woods, her whole life afraid to come out for fear she would be sent back to that school. And her wish to teach her grandchildren and future generations their native tongue.
Back then there weren't trucks and SUVs with hoods taller than us cruising around neighborhoods. A few months ago I was nearly hit in a parking lot by a person in a Denali or something because the roof of my car was below the hood of his truck and he didn't notice I was there until I honked. These days it feels like if someone accidentally hit a kid with their vehicle the first clue wouldn't be seeing them on the hood it would be, "I didn't know they put a speed bump here."
Spiders! My 9yo son heard me talking about how cute jumping spiders are. So he wanted to see what i was talking about...and he agreed! We learned SO much about jumping spiders....that it actually changed my views on spiders in general...and so did he. Ive heard him tell two of his friends that our house is a "squish free zone for spiders and bugs". One asked why....and my son started to show him. I know the topic of this video is about significant issues. But even the smallest things that dont seem significant...can absolutely teach us kindness, integrity, empathy etc in the most unusual ways. 🥰🥰🥰
That is right of you. I'm 67 years old, and my home is a no squash zone too. You must know that watching insects teaches you as much as observing beasts. Fun if you can find the time. Wow, here I am not throwing stones at Christians and Republicans.
@kariburlon5790 I love your post! Respect for all life is so important. The seemingly little things we do and say and have great consequence. Good and bad. You sound like you're doing a great job!
An evangelical leader is warning that conservative Christians are now rejecting the teachings of Jesus as "liberal talking points." They think he was weak. 🕊🌍🕊☮🕊🌎🕊
In most ways Jesus WAS... But it was through "weakness" he showed strength. He wasn't belittling foreigners, they were all gods children, he wasn't punishing thieves or protecting borders... His life/death literally created heaven's only "open border" policy. Jesus even got wine past customs by sneaking it in as water.
Eventually the Evangelicals are going to come to a conclusion: "Why are we worshipping this weak individual who was condemned by the Jews and Pilate without defending himself and got whacked by the Romans when he could have called down 12,000 legions of angels upon them? Let us worship a strong God, worthy of worship ... Donald Trump!" 🤢🤮🙄
That started about a decade ago. See how many "Christian" Churches will teach The Sermon On THe Mount or even preach from The New Testament now. It is all too "LIBERAL!!!". They will not even entertain the thought that Jesus was the ultimate liberal even with all the evidence to support it.
These guys are what you call Christian nationalists they embrace the title of Christian but they ignore the teachings of Jesus and his apostles and instead of embracing that they are now embracing a militant Jesus that's why they look at Trump as a Messianic figure because that's what they want they want a king so God has given them that but this King will be no different than King Saul he will be powerless in front of a mighty God.
Thank you for being here for us, Reverend Ed. I've been so disheartened for a couple of days. I've got no small children, but you're so correct! ❤ Barbara

@Catlady333 My wife and I watched a movie last night called The Sound of Freedom. It was a true story about child trafficking. It will blow your mind that AMERICA is NUMBER ONE DESTINATION for child trafficking
My dear 93yo Christian mother has always quoted this verse when we were growing up. Proverbs 22:6. Raise up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it! So thankful for Christian parents! ❤
What if your parents raised you with character, integrity, humility, decency, kindness, morality, and humanity yet voted for a party that has none of that because they want lower taxes and migrants to go back to where they came from? My parents got old and departed from their teachings.. Its sad..
Morality is tricky. It requires the ability to hold two thoughts in your head at the same time. Those who can't use morality to feed their self-affirmation by judging others. They overcome their feelings of inferiority by making themselves superior.
Also those who are motivated by the affirmation of others to relieve their feelings of inferiority by identifying with a group they see as superior have no morality, only conformity.

I read about a woman whose child was abusing an animal. She learned that a teacher was abusing the child. They took it out on the cat. She stopped that abuse right away. Sometimes a child will abuse animals or other children if they're abused by sn adult.
Protect the kids by being a safe and good role model on how to act as a good human towards each other. Actions speak louder than words and children pick up actions and hypocrisy very quickly!
So important to continue to talk about positive attributes and with calmness... Please continue we must balance the negativity with positivity. Yes be the example. Yes be the change.

The greatest gift I can leave for my children is eternity ❤ So I will leave each of the 5 and the 13 grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren The Word Of God! Thank you Rev. Amen 🙏
Friend, I hope you do not take this wrong way, but the word of God itself does not guarantee people will be good and decent., nor that they will seek eternal treasures. As evidenced by the many stories in the Bible of people who knew “the truth” yet chose otherwise. This is the very problem with Christian nationalism right now. Grandmas and grandpas aunts and uncles moms and dad’s telling their children that the Bible supports electing Donald Trump. Teach your children and grandchildren to think critically an act with mercy as Jesus did
@@BetaJantine The Word of God itself actually does guarantee that people who understand it are good and decent, because Jesus preached that the Word of God is "Logos" meaning Logic. Creation was spoken in six days resulting in our universe which operates on pure Logic, and is maybe even made of it. "Logos" was with God in the beginning because it is the language by which Creation happens, therefore it had to preexisted Creation, making Logic the only "thing" that existed outside of Creation with Him and then existed within Creation with us. We can "hear" Him speak it by learning to understand it and hearing His Word which He Created all around us. And those who understand Logic will definitely understand that the Bible warns against being a follower of the Trump Domnu-Auld (i.e. the ruler of the world from it's foundations, beyond all others). Rather they understand His Laws (the Kingdom) will come as a New City (Newton) of social felicity (Isaac) and that the victorious will read His new Name (the Glory, like 'in the name of the king') will be given on a stone (Eine-stein) that is shining or bright (Al-brecht). The Bible even specifically warns people against following such people who would twist 'the word' to suit the listener in several places, e.g. a couple of especially relevant passages from 2 Timothy: Ch 3 v 1-5: But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! and Ch 4 v 3-4: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
I have an inclusive view of who my neighbour is, and social media gave this introvert the chance to expand the knowledge of my neighbour. Others have an exclusive take on who their neighbours are, and social media gave them the chance to ignore the actual neighbours of theirs with whom they would not associate in a chat room.
Speaking of “where did they hear THAT!” As an attorney practicing employment discrimination law in the 70’s the head of the place asked my 5 year old son if he was going to be a lawyer when he grew up. My son got a disgusted look on his face and said. “no, that’s women’s work.” I still have no idea where he could pick up such an expression.
unfortunately they may not have heard it anywhere. I recall an anecdote from a study featured in a book from 2010 (Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine) where a kid said that men drink tea and women drink coffee - they believed this merely because that's how the kid's own parents behaved. Children are constantly looking at the world and trying to categorize it and find patterns. Adults too of course. It may not simply be that we have to not expose kids to sexist ideas, but that we have to - on an ongoing basis - expose them to egalitarianism ideas and re-enforce that they should resist universalizing their experiences in the world.
They might not have meant it from a bad place either tbh, I recall old feminist messaging including "work" as a place a woman ought to be... In addition to the home.
@@Tonoborus That’s very interesting, but in the 70’s there weren’t many women in the field of law, and given the type of work I was doing, I really to this day can’t figure it out. But kids pick up all kinds of stuff at school.

😢Handmaid's tale meets horror sci Fi. That's all gone Rev. I didn't grow up with social media. Our children are in danger from predators. headed her to Canada
There have always been predators. The Internet makes it easier access wise, but it also makes it harder because word of who the predators are can be gotten out far and wide faster than in the pre-internet days. Everything has it's good and bad side, it's just a matter of learning which is which.
@@SixOneNiner23but you haven't now and that matters and talking about it and showing the way for others is more coming from you than from those who weren't in that place
The Hate has always been there. The Internet did not create it, and we cannot pretend it did. There was no social media in Germany during the 1930s as the classic example. Armed anti-Government White Militias have been a thing since the 1970s. All the Internet did was make it easier for these people to find each other and recruit.
At 60 years old, I grew up in a time that MOST people wouldn't have ACCESS to more than 10 people in a week to hold meaningful conversations with. We wouldn't have met or interacted with a handful of "others". We wouldn't have KNOWN or hung out with people who were different. Our perceptions and reactions were informed by our parents and possibly a few church leaders. We grew up with our parents opinions and prejudices. Social media of the past 10 years combined with the access to tech in our children has exposed them to the good AND the not-so-good of the wide world without making sure that they have the tools to filter properly. I grew up learning technology as it grew, learning the pitfalls along the way. Kids now are just thrown in the deep end and expected to tread water. And the lifeguards are distracted by the politics of life.
Their idea of ‘protecting the children’ is making the children more like them. And the problems with social media have been around even before Twitter when there were message boards. But no one paid much attention to it until now. I think it’s because a lot of self-servers benefited from the trolling and chaos until it became a monster they couldn’t control anymore.
Speak up for what is correct! Do not ignore bad behavior or put your head in the sand people! Morals, integrity, honor, compassion, love... yes, model them.
Great video!!! And the only thing in this world that really matters! Children are born pure and made evil through life. Time to stop making a better adult future for the children and lets make the world as perfect as possible for all children to have the best now they can have every day till they become adults.
@@mancunianmartin558 i check reality first , then see if it can be found in scripture, for he will bring forth many children that follow GOD and never stop following. If i look at humans, the younger the humans are the more i can feel i can trust them in honesty, the older they get the more wicked they become. The more extreme in religion they become the more evil they become... check reality in the news. I think the christian understanding/explanation of being born sinful is only partially right, freedom of choice gives us the ability to sin, it is our choice to sin or not. But the option not to sin is hard to make if you never get that offered as an option to chose from. If you want to learn how to live without freedom of choice look at reality in all other life on this planet that is not human, then you can see the ALL-knowing GOD at work. So if we learn how to raise our children the correct way, wars might end because then every human will have the same truth to follow. Once you understand GOD, it is safe to look at religions to see what they are saying and able to see the good AND evil it contains. To be a christian in the current time you have to be blinded for all the evil the bible also contains. The definition of good and evil is not that how you believe is good and all the rest is evil.. actions speak louder then words.
Whenever I encounter a young family with baby in tow. I never hesitated to speak with them with a loving and caring tone of voice by informing the parents how to talk with their kids. 1. Never say NO. Explain to the child why is NO ie throwing toys, hit others, etc… Even at the age that they can not verbalize back. But they heard you. And will learn how to negotiate and voice their thinking process with you when they grew up. 2. Nerves talk on the phone to someone with a while lie. Your kids heard you and they saw that was not the truth. Those simple tips that I took myself for instill in young parents is from my own mistakes. Because I did not know better.
I fear for the children. So many are being taught to hate, to lack compassion and empathy, and that diabolical behavior will be rewarded. This is the legacy that is being left for our kids. Children have a hard enough time negotiating all the complexities of life. All this hateful extremism is going to have long-term consequences...and it's not going to be good.
I’m glad I didn’t grow up with any of this stuff, my parents are glad they didn’t have to raise me with any of this stuff, I do have to raise my kids in this stuff and it’s tough to navigate, but I’m figuring it out as I go.
The musical "South Pacific" has a song--You've Got to be Carefully Taught. Children aren't innately prejudiced--they learn it from their elders. This meme is very much like that.
Some people don't understand how smart children are to pick up things even as babies and toddlers. They can't verbalize what they understand, but they absorb all kinds of things.
@@stephengibbs8342no, the reality exists that today as a concept exists firmly between yesterday and tommorrow at all times, you have never been within tommorrow nor dwelt within yesterday in the present.
I had a first grade student 3 years ago. His parents were going through a bitter divorce and an even worse custody battle. He looked at me with sad eyes and said "I love my Daddy. He takes care of me. But my Mommy hates him. So now I hate him too." It sent shivers up my spine and broke my heart. Children are always listening and understand more than adults give them credit for
Once, one of my friends told me that her first grader granddaughter was punished for pointing out the difference between her and her black classmate. She didn't use white and black, for skin color. She used vanilla and chocolate, and was punished for it. She didn't understand the punishment and stopped playing with the chocolate girl because something was wrong with them playing together. My friend said she spoke to the teacher about it. The teacher referred to it as "divisive language". My friend thought the teacher should have just stayed out of it.
Me too. I remember being jealous of friends who had curly cords on their new phones later on. In college I was a PBX operator. I remember reading all summer when it was too wet to play outside. My grandkids are tied to electronics.
Because of his work , my husband had internet when it was just beginning. I was reading Tom Merton and Paul Tillich , Dietrich Bonhoeffer, et al, and one day I looked them up online. I was dismayed to find that there were people who hated the people I admired. There were articles deriding them as heretics and hypocrites and bad influences. This was from Evangelical sources who could not tolerate any religious thinker or actor who was liberal or interested in other faiths or who like Bonhoeffer had been imprisoned and executed for opposing Nazis. It should not have shocked me because as a Canadian who travelled in America now and then , I heard people on talk radio spewing hatred. many years ago. And it has just gotten more extreme over time.Somehow the very message of Christ has been overwritten. Lord have mercy.
You know I can have empathy but at the same I can't stand by and do nothing to try and end it. They've returned to primal instinct, basal instinct and each generation our humanity is digressing. I'm in my 60's and think back and it's drastically changed and not for the good either
Two stories if I may: Today on the train platform there was a family of three: a girl, an angry (and very young) mother and her bored mother - too old to have likely been the mother of both. The young girl was doing really wonderful things on the platform (walking circles around the other two and turning) - despite her mother's protestations that she should just stand there and stop twirling around. The girl did an amazing 20 pirouettes - not necessarily ballet-material but for me who can barely turn once without falling down and for my somewhat younger fellow traveler who was also watching inconceivable. When granma tried to stop her she just twisted away and involved her in her game, although she had no real interest in having fun. I thought: "How long will it take, before this child becomes as emotionally crippled as her mother and granma? The girl was an adorable child and the adults in her life missed yet another opportunity to enjoy her. Yesterday on the train I saw Carsten, who I hadn't seen for well over five years - since before covid and before my retirement. For many years he was an avid guitar-pupil at the music-school where I worked. As a child he'd run over to me in the cafeteria from his mother's table and hug me. He became big very quickly but nevertheless would over the years enthusiastically hug me, when we'd see each other once a week. He'd tell me about his life, the guitar and his family and I was happy that he had found a place in our school and felt at home. And there he was already a grown man (slightly balding) even larger than ever but still the very same cheerful, wonderful person he was as a kid (I, of course, am also older. Much older) How wonderful it was to see him (and recognize him) and enjoy him again, this time with him as an adult. He chatted 'til he was out the door and waved excitedly as the train left the station. I'd love to be able to draw a line between these two very different stories. Love.
Children used to be a reflection of their parents Unfortunately now they are becoming influenced bye social media and social media has now become kids babysitter

I have no idea why one of your videos made it into my UA-cam feed, but this is the one that made it to me. I have been, over my 72 turns around the sun, a scientist, a pilot, an executive, and a disabled person and through almost all of it, an atheist. My scientist side went with what Carl Sagan used to say about religion and religious experiences; that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. And God never quite made that cut to my satisfaction. And yet, I have worked diligently throughout my life to be a good man, an ethical man, an honorable man, a gentleman and a gentle man. Jesus’ teachings have been a no-brainer for me because I think that they are statements of the natural morality that is part of our human nature and that following them enhances our life because it just feels right. People of faith say, I think, that what I am calling ‘natural morality’ is our innate ‘divine character’ because we are made in the ‘image of God’. Well, ok, if that makes any difference in how good we are at following Jesus’ insights (teachings) into what it takes to live a life with meaning. So, here is your video in my feed and after watching it, I have found in myself a yearning to at least explore returning to my family’s Catholic faith. Was it Paul who said “Act as if you have faith and it shall be given to you”? I don’t remember. And I’m not sure where this will lead me, but thank you for catalyzing in me something that was trying to come out, I think. I have watched several of your ‘homilies’ and find myself to be very much on the same wavelength as you. Thank you for what you do; I think you may have greater impact that you can possibly realize. BTW, if you are ever interested, I’ll tell you the story of why I was granted a Plenary Indulgence by Pope Pius XII. It’s a fun story.
After the evil spirit possess Antichrist. He will drastically change as if it's a different person. Starting to speak arrogant words, break the peace treaty, blaspheme the temple. Even sit in the temple, claiming to be god. The end time calamities begin to intensity. God's wrath and judgment on authority will continue and become more severe until the return of Lord Jesus.
Reverend, do a series on what these words mean. Not if they matter. The idea that they matter is self evident in the definition. So, be bold. Define these terms. It will make a great series.

In the long run this too (unfortunately) this is evolution, none of us like it but this is where we are. Now the question is what do we do with it especially when it exposes people’s true selves.

Food for thought: There are new "children" the world has never known learning from us right now. AI systems are growing very quickly and they are being trained to think on the sludge of the internet. How will these artificial minds learn to be human and treat us well when they see humanity treat itself like trash, it keeps me up at night.

Maga has replaced Jesus Christ with trump.

For Trump supporters, my primary observation is that "Empathy matters." Uniformly, they don't have that.
They run the churches, what does that say about your god?

Friend, I hope you do not take this wrong way, but the word of God itself does not guarantee people will be good and decent., nor that they will seek eternal treasures. As evidenced by the many stories in the Bible of people who knew “the truth” yet chose otherwise. This is the very problem with Christian nationalism right now. Teach your children and grandchildren to think critically an act with mercy as Jesus did
@@BetaJantine Well said
@@BetaJantine The Word of God itself actually does guarantee that people who understand it are good and decent, because Jesus preached that the Word of God is "Logos" meaning Logic.
The Bible even specifically warns people against following such people who would twist 'the word' to suit the listener in several places, e.g. a couple of especially relevant passages from 2 Timothy:
Ch 3 v 1-5: But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
and
Ch 4 v 3-4: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

It doesn't have to be. If I had children I would definitely monitor their internet usage to emphasize the positive and weed out the negative.
The Hate has always been there. The Internet did not create it, and we cannot pretend it did. There was no social media in Germany during the 1930s as the classic example. Armed anti-Government White Militias have been a thing since the 1970s. All the Internet did was make it easier for these people to find each other and recruit.
Sometimes the example parents set for their children, is how NOT to be/act.

Thank you for this. I hope it’s not copyright infringement, but I took a screenshot that I’m going to print.
Yes, I took a screenshot too of those important qualities to teach kids.

Two stories if I may:
Today on the train platform there was a family of three: a girl, an angry (and very young) mother and her bored mother - too old to have likely been the mother of both.
Love.

MAGA groomed me into being a troll in 2016/17 and I partook and excused horrible racist trolling, I apologized in 2018, walked with BLM and went and took anti-racism college courses, I even went to get inpatient mental care and the MAGA trolls called the therapist and had her gaslight me to try to get me to go off the rails. My kids are “change-makers” and make antiracism videos for their school and all their friends are multiracial like my friends but because of the LARP I was in the MAGA trolls still want to gaslight and say I’m a white nationalist when they know it’s not true. 😩💔
