Dan, I was a youth mentor to a boy years ago, and you stopped by his apartment. Seeing the apartment in its current state brings me a mix of good yet sad memories.

Dan I can't tell you how fast I clicked on this video when I saw it on my feed. I was just watching old uploads of yours as usual yesterday. You're absolutely right. It's sick that the city will bulldoze those homes just to put a Starbucks and a parking garage there. When clearly these people deserve a home! Doesn't matter if you have money or not. People are deserving of a bed and a roof and food and water and a bathroom and love. Period.
These particular projects aren't being torn down to build a starbucks. I looked it up, apparently it's part of a deal to revamp old damaged project buildings, make them more up to code. And be able to fit more residents. The former residents have rights to move back in as soon as everything is completed. They wanted to expand the availability of low income housing.
@@RandomMetalChick000 hate to burst your bubble. I know where Dan is for the video is a different location, in Memphis same problem. They opened apartments for low income and it ended up taken over by rich people who wanted to live closer in city and ruined it for families that really needed it. 😑
@@RandomMetalChick000 So you mean "Luxury Apartments"... do you know who can afford that? Not people shitting in buckets. It costs so much more to demolish than to remodel for codes. This city clearly doesn't have that kind of money if it's take this long to get this far.

I'm having a Dan Bell day. Saved up the last 7 of your videos to watch on a rainy day off. Wonderful to spend time exploring with you guys, can't tell you how much I enjoy your content. Thanks for everything Dan, hope you're having a great weekend yourself.
Those buildings from the outside look like they were built in the fifties or sixties, but on the inside it looks like they were prob renovated twenty years ago,by the looks of the doors and dry wall. Btw i remember my coworker used to frequent the Apex during lunch breaks
I just got back into watching your videos, as I have been traveling for the past year and you did not disappoint Dan! So happy I have so many videos to catch up on!!
DAN!! I'm so happy to "see" you my friend... this is a sad video. Housing in America is abysmal, but to see where a community once was and now isn't... like how we talk of ancient civilizations but it's only been like a decade... so eerie. I'm sure you're practicing proper safety measures, but man some parts made me feel unsafe looking in. Be safe out there.
The theater turned into a grocery store was really cool I thought, actually. I like how they were able to convert it over to look like a normal corner store and keep some of the building’s past while doing it! Too bad you weren’t allowed to go upstairs! Also, that one apartment with the big pile of poop, though sad, had me laughing.
Another great video. Seemed like they may have been good living spaces back in the day, good sized apartments. Love the bonus spot at the end! Fascinating to see the remnants of a building's past businesses.
17:30 This was from the Baltimore Sun-----The Apex, which showed pornographic films in the building for more than four decades, stopped screenings Nov. 31, said Sukhvir Singh, who bought the South Broadway theater at auction in October for $295,000.Dec 17, 2013
This is absolutely crazy. All those apartments looked clean and not even damp. All damage was done after the legal occupants were evicted. There still almost no graffiti on the walls inside or out. The outside areas still showed how clean and nice they were. The properties don't look very old at all, how on earth have people been moved out of them and the places to be demolished 🤷🏻♀️ The homeless people living there should be helped, I just don't get why these places were emptied of their occupants when the area seemed to have been quite reasonable 🤷🏻♀️
I miss your videos. and appearanlty ive been missing them, cause i wasnt subscribed to this channel. Am now and bout to watch some more! Thanks for showing us this stuff Dan.
When i started watching your videos, just as the urban explorer hype kicked off on UA-cam almost a decade ago, i already had the feeling that all the abandonned malls you showed were just the beginning. You document a time in history barely anyone documents, the downfall of the old hyper capitalist society of the 90s and all the prices our and the younger generations now have to pay for it.
Good people wish they could rebuilt the building and hope for a brighter future, but there are rarely instances where that works out. I've helped rebuild rehab neighborhoods and they always turn out just as bad as before.
I've walked around the Perkins homes fairly recently, but they look like they're in rough shape and I wouldn't even think of going inside one lol. The design of the community feels like a containment zone for poor people and lacks any sense of dignity, so I can't say I'm sad to see them go, though.
It’s the cycle in Baltimore and I would assume other cities as well. Rehab public housing and 10 years later it’s all trashed and has to be redone because if you’re given things for free you don’t respect them. I know people that have rehabbed the same buildings numerous times.
I am going to take lots of heat for this but I personally find this so sad. The fact that humans live in these conditions. Also, the store is so unique. Interesting layout.
It baffles me to see so many decaying abandoned homes like this, in a country with so many homeless people, worse even; the utter lack of respect people have that makes things worse.
Why don't they rehab one of the buildings and let the homeless move in? Because they'd rather replace these buildings with businesses that will make money, they could give a shit less about the homeless.
Cities (government) have an issue with the homeless & how it looks on the city- well, make some shelters or something to help get them off the streets ‘making the city look bad’
