    Thanks for the video. I'm trying to decide if this scanner is worth getting during the KS campaign. The face mesh at 1:30 looks really bad compared to what I can get with photogrammetry. Did you do that 'trial and error' you mention and eventually get a clean mesh without so many unwanted artifacts? If this is the best the Range scanner can do it would not be worth getting.

    like me, you can go even further by printing the models in castable resin so as to make a bronze copy by lost wax casting.

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  Рік тому +3

      As long as the clay is a matte finish or you can spray it with a 3D scanning spray it should work just fine for scanning purposes.

      @@shaunhall960 If you're a sculptor, skip the 3D scanning for now. We're still a long way from 3D scanning that is useful. There's plenty to like here if you're willing to learn it, but videos like this really undersell the time, effort, and money it's going to take to get a good scan. It's an entire skillset that will take you many MANY hours to get right, and drain your wallet with the equipment and consumables needed. Right now it's only worth it if you're standing up a business built around scanning, otherwise you'll need a LOT of disposable income to even get it to work.
      Instead, do yourself a favor and spend a fraction of the money you'd spend on all of that by learning how to use ZBrush or 3DCoat. These simulate sculpting using the same techniques you're already used to from sculpting in clay. You'll get a WAY better result; any 3D scan isn't high enough resolution to pick up any fine details, so you'll have to use these programs anyway if you're scanning.
      3D scanning has a looooong way to go, and while I applaud Revopoint's efforts, they're stretching the truth with a lot of the videos and descriptions they're putting out. On the kickstarter page they show a guy scanning a super-shiny car with no scan spray (impossible, any even mildly reflective surface ruins scanning), full body scans of people holding their arms out (impossible, there's no way these people held their arms out and stayed still, which is 100% necessary) and with dark hair and clothing (impossible, dark colors are completely ignored by the scanner.) They're focusing on marketing, rather than the research to fix these problems, or at the very least subtly lying to us to fund that research.

    be careful folks. Revopoint scanners , while wonderful pricepoint, are not perfect. It is common to have to have to make several attempts, iit is fairly unforgiving and as this video indicates - you better have a good software modelling program to rebuild what you have - its rare to get perfect results. Notice - The revopoint range does seem to be create lower resolution results,, (Im guessing here), but ID say by a factor of half compared to the revopoint 2. yes you get more coverage but at the expense of detail. Am I suggesting not to buy?.. not at all, but do expect you will need to put in a lot of post editing to get a reasonable result and it s best to keep the scanner rock steady, the scanner does not like being handheld - thats why revopoint released the pop2 with a stabilizer option.
