  • The speed in which you ride an EUC is essential for being safe on the road?
    Let's talk about it!

Is keeping up with traffic safe for an EUC rider? Does it make you safe or unsafe to keep up with traffic? Let's talk about it below!
Also, the sound is off (music high at times), thanks for comments letting me know this. :) LIKE , SUBSCRIBE!

Wow what a great topic. After being hit by an SUV a few years ago. I ride according to the traffic patterns and make adjustments depending on the aggressiveness of the drivers. In some cases it doesn't matter if we have the ability to keep up with traffic. There are motorists out there who feel we don't belong on the road and drive dangerously around us.

Thank you for checking this out. Sorry for the audio imbalances on it lol. Yea, for sure, you have that experience that i dont wish upon anyone, and glad to hear your thoughts on this.

I totally agree! I am in with traffic all the time with my Sherman. On my bicycle, I feel much less safe when a vehicle passes me doing 30+mph faster than me. On the unicycle, even if they pass me on larger roads, they have more time to see me and adjust. And they pass me at 10mph or so faster. The bad part is having less reaction time if someone pulls out in front of me, but I try to be aware and watch out for that as much as possible.

I agree , reaction time is the key, and being reactive is also a key component . I wish i had all the answers, but i hate riding on the side of the lane when there are no bike paths, so riding with traffic if its within my ability makes me safer. Good to see your comment and you made a sherman video! I hope you get to make more, your content is really great btw!

    Good video, thank you.
I found the music somewhat too loud and had difficulties hearing what you had to say.

There is an inverse relationship between speed and safety, you have less time to react to ‘the other guy’s dumb decision’ or ‘events’; these safety aspects are further exacerbated when the rider chooses not to wear much in terms of bodily protection, eg elbow and body protection. In the event of an unforseen incident, the rider usually benefits greatly from their use of such items, the human body is a soft and readily breakable entity as compared to a tarmac pavement or highway. Best not to learn this from personal experience, but from the experiences of others.😊

all is true. Also in this video, no elbow pads, but there is a reason (left them in the jeep at the mechanic shop). I rather not get into an accident if i can help it. You have good points and hope those who read this take it to heart

Instead of keeping up with traffic, try this.
Wait until the red light catch the cars going in the direction you are going, then go down the road.
You will have the road all to yourself while they are struck at the light for 10-30 seconds.
By the time the light change green you can be a couple lights down the road, which some of those lights will catch them too...now the whole road is clear to ride the EUC.
I do this on my not so fast V12, and it works. I sometimes ride for miles with no cars around me..in overcrowded Los Angeles streets
Better to stay away from those 4000+ pound Boxes (cars and trucks) than to ride in the midst of them. Cars cause too many accidents and problems

I go bike lane as main, and take the road only when its clear of cars, or when i have no choice. If im among traffic, i obey same laws. Mirror check, signal, and shoulder check. I dont lane split at all. If a lane on the bike path opens up or even a pedestrian sidewalk, i switch out of the way of traffic.

was just curious, what is the brand of the hand mirrors that you're using? Any good/bad feedbacks about it? Thank you!

Hello, and good question. On Amazon, search for "CIPA 11125 Hand Mirror". That is the one that i purchased a couple years ago . The good feedback is that it does help you look behind when you raise your hand up . The bad feedback i have for you is sometimes its hard to see vehicles in the mirror, and vehicles are ALOT closer than what it appears on the mirror. I depend on sound and occasional looking behind me to get the full picture. As another commenter suggested, is to buy /install a helmet mirror for better situational awareness.

I thought side walks are for pedestrians, would you slow down for a woman pushing her baby in a pram ?
